Drowning
Hope Elyse Oct 2020
Do you see me?
Can you hear me?
I am right here!
I am screaming and flailing
Fighting not to be consumed by the storm
Barraged by waves of sorrow
Pockets full of fear, heavy as rocks
Slowly sinking below the surface
Cries muffled by claps of thunder
I am begging for help

You didn't see me in time
I am swallowed by a sea of apathy
Enveloped in cold, dark misery
You won't hear me now
Because I won't yell anymore
I am sunken in this trench of despair
The second stanza should be two font sizes smaller for impact

Roses
Hope Elyse Oct 2020
She looks around her and sees the faces.
They remind her of a rose,
thorny and wild.
They grow untamed,
their scent so sweet and mild.
She looks around her and sees the blood.
She sees the petals fall to the mud.
The roses are dead,
they grow no more.
She looks around her, but sees no faces.

Joy Ride
Hope Elyse Sep 2020
Filled up with empty words,
Torn down by broken promises.
Joy, elation, ecstasy,
Sorrow, anger, disappointment.
Up and down, up and down,
Back and forth, back and forth.
I am not a toy,
This is not a rollercoaster ride.
There is no ice cream, no sunshine,
It rains, it pours, it thunders,
Loud and disruptive and destructive.
I reject it.
I will find my own sunshine.
I will build my own joy ride.
