Today's Vista
GreenMan Feb 2020
Buzzards sail above my head

The coldest star in the west

Black buds swell on the Ash

Mist gathers the river

Fieldfare row through the air

Oblate moon climbs in the East

Owl folds over the hedge

Black kites
GreenMan Feb 2020
The church tower crows

Drifting black kites

In organised rows

Revelling in the heights

Why do they fly?

Just for the love of it

Why do they cry?

To let us all know of it
My first attempt at rhyming poetry.

Edge
GreenMan Jan 2020
Standing on the precipice

Looking out into the underworld

One step forward, no going back

No sound, no feeling

Falling backwards run away

Birds gather around to see the wreck

Theirs the only voice I know

Wretched crumbling heart still beats

Yellow haunted eyes still see

The edge slips under

On my back above the souls

Sails torn and candles out

The face inside gone but near

If only she knew and realised

For You, For Me
GreenMan Jan 2020
For you

Feather soft sun feels like her skin

Robin's song as gentle as her voice

Golden oak leaves on the forest floor the colour of her eyes

A gossamer breeze on my face redolent of her kiss

Snowdrops first pure bloom no comparison to her beautiful face

For me

Thunder rolls across my skull, lightening sets fire to my mind

Storm force gales twist and agonise my structures, snapping and splintering

A cold star settles on my soul, it's gravity crushes my spirit

Gripping and relentless waves smash my emotions into the desolate, granite rocks

There is no escaping this wreckage, there is no end to the tempest in sight

Winter wood
GreenMan Jan 2020
Ferns turned Bronze and Gold,

Oak holding on to their leaves,

Brambles becoming tired,

Goldcrests flit in the heights of the Pines,

Low sun blazing, blinding,

Illuminated bark of the Birch,

Winter of the woods.

Elemental
GreenMan Jan 2020
The sky was on fire for you,

Wherever you are I hope you saw

And thought of me,

When we first met

The watchful moon watched

Then fell between the branches,

When we were angry

The storm blew vicious

Making trees tremble and fall,

When we loved the last time

The sky was huge with clarity

The birds our only witness,

Our love is elemental

A river cutting a new course

From its source, the deepest hollows of my heart.
