Am I the only one who finds it deeply ironic in an almost sickening way
that, here in the United States, Armistice Day became Veterans Day?
Not saying that homage is bad to pay,
but I simply wish to say
Armistice; that is to say
the diplomatic end of War,
should preclude future Veterans.
Maybe I'm too idealistic.
Maybe I'm not idealistic enough.
In either case;
the Military is a Tool.
I mean no disrespect;
I simply mean to reflect
upon what it is  I see and feel.
Still, I wish humbly to convey
happy pseudo-Armistice day!

(except my black light; it's an effective and badass night light)

To whom or what do I refer when I use the name "One"?

Is there a recurring character named "One"?
Is it an impersonal pronoun for "you"?
Is it a sort-of metaphysical Unity?
Is it a symbolic, externalized "I"?
Is it that "One" is many things?

Do I know if I know?
No; that is,
I don't know if I know;
while that is not to say
"no"
to any of my prior questions,
I can't truly say
"yes"
to any, either,
for "One"
always seems
to shift,
to me,
and could be
any, all, or none
at any given Time

And so, I suppose,
it is to say: *"perhaps One knows"

of a semi-decrepit white Subaru
belonging to the Swedish Harpist
driven by the Romanian Drummer
with a literal car-full

an electric Piano,
and two guitars
(an acoustic-electric twelve-string and an electric six-string)
with a few days' clothing
and, not knowing where we're sleeping, a sleeping bag,

devouring Matza and pumpkin seeds
(that we bought at Trader Joe's)
as we barrel moderately safely
down various back roads and Highways
in this car weighted as a truck and driven as a motorcycle
towards enigmatic San Francisco
to play a couple shows,
two days in a row:

one, at a literally underground Theatre
(in which improv comedy is, apparently, king of kings)
smack-dab 'pon the border of Union Square,
and another, for a private birthday party
typified by oh so many avid Burners.

Surely, our Psychedelic Jazz Funk-Rock
will find some empathic ears!

Y'know, last summer,
when I said I wanted
to be in a Gypsy Band,
I sure didn't see this coming:
this is pretty ******* Gypsy,
in my observational opinion.

Well,
here I am,
and I even asked for it.

For us three,
this will certainly be
an interesting few days,
down in the Bay,
on our way to play
wherever it is we may,
and all I can say
is: "Okay,
this is the stuff
books are made of,"
and, "Well,
time to live
one hell of a story!"

If you find it so offensive
that I don't passively accept the *******
you so zealously defend
with phoney statistics and appeals to irrelevant authority,
perhaps you should try to empathize
with how offensive that ******* may be
to a person who values and respects
individuals' divergent opinions.

Then again, in thy defense,
they don't really seem like thy opinions,
they've just been programmed into thee
from a malleable age
by others
who cannot stand a bit of honest dissent
for the sake of earnest
social and spiritual progress.

You're a proper product of your environment.
Your upbringing is bringing you down.

If you want to overgeneralize
and make less options available
that many have fought so hard to make possible,
go live somewhere where you won't have the freedom to choose for yourself
even if it does tend to be an illusion.

But, I know
you don't want to have fewer choices,
you just want others to have fewer choices.

As a philosopher,
I find that ******* disgusting.
Appalling.
Abhorrent.
Evil, even.

If your school of thought
is said to be so 'holy,'
how can it produce such evil people?
I guess it's *******,
either on the teachers' part,
or on the students' part,
or, not unlikely:
both.

A boat that cannot be rocked
is probably an unsafe boat.

is more likely to be seaworthy.

It is worth it to find out which boat you're in
before you're committed to it on the open seas of Life.

Thy traditionalism
binds thee to a bygone era
of sexism, feudalism, and prejudice.

If it is thy choice
to sacrifice thy free will and curiosity
to that ages old cult,
I venture to claim that you deserve to,
just don't expect any sympathy
from this devout skeptic;

not to destroy what's good,
but to try to **** out what isn't healthy.

Funny how when the danger oughtta be respected
the fear-mongers downplay it.

Our minds affect what happens.

constructive or corrosive. It's your choice.

The winter Months used to not be accounted for,
they were the annual time away from Time;
a time of parties, feasts, and, shall we say, celebration of survival;
celebrating the harvest and, shall we say, fertility;
that you and yours may outlast
the cold, dead Winter.

January was eventually recognized as part of time
and was named for the Roman two-faced God Janus;
a time of duplicity and duality
a time of unpredictability
a time, somewhat analogous to a gateway leading to a new cycle
though, perhaps also, a time for looking the other way, as it were:

I suspect that the expression "When in Rome..."
was derived from those Winter non-months of debauchery
where the people from out-of-town would come into Rome,
where the party was, company was plentiful, and it was warm,
and decide to partake in various aspects of pagan Roman life otherwise inaccessible to them
while distributing few, if any, regards for their new-found brumal unorthodoxy
and hence the expression: "When in Rome, do as the Romans."

That's just my theory on it, though.
Take it or leave it, or perhaps somewhere in between.

I thought Religion was supposed to make One more compassionate, but it seems that so many religious people are only compassionate towards others of that same religious group.
Of course, this isn't always the case,
and I commend those who defy this trend,
but still I sit in awe
of those who look down at others from their religious standpoint
rather than looking inwards at themselves.

Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist,
Christian, Pagan, Atheist, Agnostic:
it doesn't seem to matter:
everyone favors their own in-group:
what if humanity was your in-group?
Why is that such a strain for our psyches?

People are people.
Get over it,
get over yourself.

Compassion cannot be selective.

I pledge allegiance to my Soul
and to the fledgling body into which I was born;
not that I shall believe everything I perceive
but that I shall believe that everything I perceive is a reflection,
both of myself and the world external
