What is pride to you?
Shimwa Augusta Apr 2018
It's more than just a country
It's more than just history
It's more than what people see
Cause they only see  a very small portion
And what I see,
Is the big picture
Much more beautiful than all Picasso's artworks
For to me,
It's mother nature's masterpiece
One that keeps on getting prettier with age;
How shall I say it ,
It's an international controversy'
It's Rwanda
Don't believe me ? Come see for yourself or just let the news and statistics tell you more

Slave no more
Shimwa Augusta May 2018
And if we're no longer slaves
Why do we lend an ear to
the demons' voices?

And if  we've been saved,
then why do we still believe
we're chained?

And if we're children of God,
why do we care what the devil's prickle
Can hurt

And if we believe,
why don't we thrive?
why don't we conquer?

For we're slaves no more,
For we're powerless no more
For we're worthless no more.
I'm no longer a slave to fear, I am a child of God

Tears flow
Shimwa Augusta Apr 2018
Cry till you're dry
O troubled soul
Cry till the eyelids swell
O weary heart.

But do it all in that corner
Where only shadows live
In that corner where your ease belongs

Dump it all .
Then step out with the heart of
a warrior; Head held  high,
For another day unfolds at the death of the darkness,

A day for strength
A new breath to take
Get up and teach those broken wings how to fly again .
In the end, we all need a moment to break down and spill out the sorrow, confusion, exhaustion and all those heavy-laden emotions but after that.....it's time to give the world a wider smile

Black wings
Shimwa Augusta May 2018
Wings stained with longing
cries of misfitted sound
Melancholy raging deep down
Soul the shade of a rainy cloud
Yet she wears them  proudly
With a matching gown and grey halo
"These wings are meant to fly,"they say
But hey,
What are they worth?

Anaesthesia
Shimwa Augusta Apr 2018
TV screens, social media,
All  anaesthesia
Just a regular dose of it we swallow
To keep us surviving
the reality that this world us a crumbling mess,
An empty hole, a worthless gem
A beautiful box that only offers lies and mistrust.

Popularity, celebrity
Everybody's searchin' for some worth, some place to fit in
Somewhere to stick their name in the hall of fame.
But take it's all anaesthesia, for it doesn't add or subtract a pound on the scale.

The hottest stars, the hottest gossip,
Father look what hypnosis, your kids are drinking.
Falling for the fake but sweet illusions and fantasies
Where time is turned to static and makes them forget of the long road ahead still to be taken.

Father look what anaesthesia your kids are taking in...
And sadly, it's strong can't let the truth through the door
Yet, we all know the blind can only run.into a trap if they ignore the voice warning in the background.

Father I wish you could open their eyes before the anaesthesia kills their sight...
For eternity
Anaesthesia is all around just ask God for the vision before it goes too far.
It exists in so many ways,
But in the end, it's still  there and still dangerous so what do we choose, ignorance or prevention.

They told me to speak
I told them I couldn't
and so I wrote.

They told me to scream louder
I told them I wouldn't
I'd rather let my words cut deeper.

They told me I wouldn't fit in
I told them it was fine.
Cause I preferred keeping it real

They asked me about language
I told them I spoke only one:
Art
At times muteness isn't just biological but unlike the real disease this one has an actual medicine: poetry, art

ashes
Shimwa Augusta Apr 2018
Everything we'd designed
used to fit us both;
gorgeously

All the songs we'd sung
used to sound;
perfectly.

But look at us now
words quenched, faces dismayed;
sadly

Where are all those castles we'd built; in the air
where are all those poems we'd written; in the stars
where are  all those gardens we'd planted ; with hope

And that fire that kept our spirits alive
Drifting through the winds of despair is now
ashes
in the end love isn't always eternal ....
if it isn't true

just for a while
Shimwa Augusta Apr 2018
you made me smile
my eyes twinkled in the dark of the night
my heart leapt with delight

you made me cry
tears ran down my cheeks
like crazy

you closed my eyes
and opened my vision
to a whole new world

a place where  my dreams were kings
where life was a sweet lollipop
where there was only victory to devour

but -
it lasted only a moment
it was just for a while
movies, songs, relationships, we all have that one thing that makes everything feel right. But unfortunately it lasts... just for a while.....yet, God can do all that "for eternity" if we do open our hearts to him and just surrender. it's scary but worthy.

Worth?
Shimwa Augusta Apr 2018
Face; an empty expression it carries
Emotions; a few share, a few care, a fewer handle
Heart; barely knows itself, ever drowning  in insecurities.
Life; lacking direction
Friends; limited by none other than myself, yet, their reaching out is short
Myself; exhausted
The World; false, ever changing, frustrating, ungrateful

In the end, what am I worth?
Jesus's answer: my pain, my death,
God's answer: much more than gold, much more than the world itself.
There's so many reasons.to feel inferior for we fall for the perspective we've got on ourselves but the Good News is that from God's perspective, we're not broken and burnt. No, we're just broken and soon to be fixed 'cause He sees something in us that's worthy to be saved.

Glory to you
Omnipotent, omnipresent
Days are worthy cause you live

Fill the empty from up there
Adviser in all, from up there
Teacher guide us,from above
Hear us out ,from down here
Everything here's a mess
Resting on your arms we long

It's poetry
Shimwa Augusta Apr 2018
It screams in silence,
where the mouth is speechless.
It's creeps
In the soul's very darkness.
It has no meaning,
It's only described by the feeling.
It's poetry,
The narrator of my history.
When the mouth fails...

I'm no celebrity,
I wasn't born for popularity,
I'm just an originality
Stickin' to my personality,
Even in adversity
What about you?

Addiction
Shimwa Augusta Mar 2018
I wish i wasn't so addicted
to your shiny face,
to your  black and white words
to your pages of everything
to your intelligence
to  your anesthesia
to your distraction

I wish I wasn't so addicted
to you technology......
and all your little colleagues.

All
It all goes down in the end.
We all end up believing in falsity
While honesty is tied in chains by the big blackened world.

It all comes back in the end
The illusions of a perfect life we've created
get erased in the night where we can't escape reality.

It all turns away in the end;
We live to leave a legacy
but what about generosity in the story
