I woke up thinking about this.

         A Thought About Loyalty

I’ve been thinking about loyalty:
A many-sided world of nuances,
The subtle differences.
We all know it means faithfulness,
A sticking-to devotedly.
Unfurled it shows its nasty sides,
The negatives that worry me:
Allegiance and adherence -
-Ism’s steel prepared to go to war
Against all criticizers,
-Isms’ others
Carving up the brotherhood
Of man.
Not for nothing
That a missile system drawn
To sense and intercept an enemy:
Is named the Patriot:
A system to annihilate.

I worry ‘bout obedience,
Compliance and submissiveness.
I like reliability, dependability,
Dedication if it’s not perverted
Duty, if it leads to thought,
A moral sense,
An ethic that agrees with life;
Loyalty without the strife.
Loyalty to think about.

Deborah's poem

DEAR POETS

:::::

Now

When I first read the poem

I AM HERE FOR THE POETRY
AND NOT THE HATE

I thought it was a very clear LOOK at the world

..... That we are all HERE on this earth expecting the
POETRY
of Justice
of Compassion
of Human Honesty

//

while reading the comments
It appeared that HERE is in reference
To HP

which to me kind of trivialized the poem

But

Everyone will read a poem as they see fit

//

As I read on .... ( and this includes Deborah 's responses to the comments )

I started to have different emotions

::

As it seemed ? ( only seemed )

That a circle of lovers was rallying around
ONE OF ITS OWN

and my mind drifted into thinking

WHAT IF YOU ARE NOT IN THIS CIRCLE OF LOVERS
WHAT IF YOU ARE , say ., an OUTSIDER
A RENEGADE ?

( now

I am not saying we should take these labels too seriously

But )

.... (?)

But it is so very easy for Love to mean Mutual Praise

... So very easy for the Outsider to feel

NOT .... Unloved
BUT .... Treated Indifferently

///

IF the poem said

I AM HERE FOR THE POETRY
NOT THE INDIFFERENCE

it would be very awkward

But is something to consider as we grapple with

The meaning and potential of POETRY

;;;

If it said
( and it doesn't )

I AM HERE FOR THE PRAISE OF MY POETRY
NOT THE CRITICISM

?????

:::

Of course

The weakness inherent in the

:::: Poem simply as poem ::::

Is the lack of definition to the word   ....  Hate

( saying

WE ALL KNOW WHAT SHE MEANS

is not the same as saying

SHE STATED CLEARLY WHAT SHE MEANS

///

Of course

The poem isn't really a poem

But is a goodbye to friends message

///

But what if you are not one of Deborah 's friends ?

Does that mean you are a HATER ?

//

I write this not out of any desire

To criticize anyone

Or this poem

••

I am merely asking

That we ( as poets ! )

Ask more from ourselves in the way of clarity

In the portrayal of our ultimate purposes and goals

And that we examine more carefully the effects of what our words do to others

And not only on the effects others' words have upon us

;;;

The Wall of Protection

We build around ourselves

That allow us to express ENORMOUS amounts of

HATRED

for

Ex lovers !

For

Criticizers

Etc

///

HATE IS HATE

& when I read of hate

( and the self hate of the self mutilators )

I FEEL HATED !

//

I simply suggest that in the GREAT STRUGGLE

that poetry finds itself within

We seek to express the universal truths

And not just our personal feelings

Of the wrongs and rights of our experiences

And I full heartedly thank Deborah

for this

Thought provoking poem

And look forward to see the effects of it

As it manifests itself

In our poetry

And in our lives

and in the world

Some say I’m over weight- while some say I’m fat.
I say I’m big ***** - my doctor told me that.
What does weight matter? -  does it mean I can’t love?
I was made this way - by GOD up above.

My brother is tall and thin- they say he’s bones and skin.
                Why does weight matter?
Can any of us ever win !

They say when we walk down the street
We look like ABBOTT and COSTELLO
He looks like a bamboo stick
While I look like a cello.

We’ve learned how to accept the jeers
And to control our rages and emotions
For “IN GOD” we put our devotion.

Love lives in any size bodies!
Big or small, short or tall
GOD has given love to all.

Why do people love to criticize and find
Fault with every one, when they themselves
Have faults , which can not be undone.

When I was growing up , there  was a saying
For both fat and thin, and no matter
which way you put it
Both sides would always win.

They would say : the closer the meat to the bone the sweeter it is
And: the more the meat, the better the treat.

So to all you criticizers ! We will not be put down.
For you are the one
who walks with the heavy crown.

I'm not that great a writer
Even I can tell
But I do it
I write to let my feelings out

I'm not that great a writer
I don't see the Rhythm or Rhyme
but I don't do it to add order
to this chaotic world

I'm not that great a writer
It's never been my strong point
But I do it anyway
It's my way of staying strong

I'm not that great a writer
To all you criticizers
But I don't write for you
I do it for me, myself

I'm not that great a writer
Even I can tell
But I do it
I write to let my secrets out

Without Cadence and cascades rhythm
Criticizers without a clue
comment on the poet
instead of the poem
But the poet didn't say Pass On

Quagmires where criticizers reside
commenting on the roots
instead of the branch
The White Witch  mischievous by degree
says criticize the poem, not the poet
but by imagery, language and
figuration
arent they the same
