trust issues

it’s not that i don’t trust you
i just have trust issues
i guess i’m trying to say it’s not you
it’s me
or does that just sound too cliche?

How do you explain
The notion of a breath?
Would you describe it as the ease
With which his cedarwood undertone swirled
In and around your nose? Or the satisfaction
Of having him set off every nerve in your core?

Perhaps a breath is simply the eagerness
To take him in; to be completely consumed by
His trace of leather and oak;
To inhale the taste
Of merlot and cigarettes
That dances on his tongue.

You crave
One more breath of his sweet
Perfume to ease the poison now
Filling your veins, your heart;
A wild fire in your lungs grows
That only he can extinguish.

He is the sweetest air and
You gasp for him,
But he does not answer,
He merely lets you consume him,
Selfishly, until he is nothing
And everything,
As your lungs continue
To reluctantly swell
And depress in perfect rhythm
With his beating heart.

i'm tired of hearing the phrase
"i should have said [...]"
because no one is taking away
your right to speak your mind.
except you.
you're afraid of rejection or
some negative outcome but
you spend the hours following
wishing you had said something.
something more.
what was really on your mind.
stop waiting.
you'll regret it.
if you are a woman and you
find a man with whom you wish to
spend your life with,
get down on one knee;
stop waiting and regretting.
stand up for what you believe in;
stop waiting and regretting.
throw your ideas out there and if
by chance they happen to
get stomped upon and lost
in the shuffle...
be proud you didn't wait.
you won't regret it.

Heaven help the citizen
the worthy to be denizen
of Love inspired by Tennyson
awaken from false hope!
and Heaven help her poetry
sincere insensibility
the height of all futility
to party like the Pope!

Heaven help the serious
who grasp that sweet delirious
the simple yet mysterious
is natures way of speaking
and Heaven help our attitude
to dwell in sleepy gratitude
her longitude and latitude?
a treasure for the seeking!

Heaven help her doggedness
the sluggish **** of fogginess
the rhyme afloat in bogginess
which pulls her reader down.
and Heaven help the man again
who treads the Old Shenanigan
to find a wretched mannequin
a fool in love could drown.

Heaven help us everyone
the world has lost it's sense of fun
depending on the wealthy one
to build amusement features
and Heaven help the child within
the haggard *** to see again
to breathe the life which God has won
and offers to all creatures!
my somewhat sarcastic response to criticism for the simple  rhyme.

I'm sorry if I smiled at you.
I know that you don't like that anymore
but it's just that
it was an accident.

And I'm sorry if I smiled at you
but
I just got confused
because
I saw your eyes,
They were there, on your face,
And
they were exactly the same
eyes that used to be on
your face, you see,
In those times
when they used to smile at me.
And they were exactly the same eyes
that used to look at me
like I was your favourite person.
And they were exactly the same eyes,
And

...Except that they don't do that now,
And I know that,
And that's why I'm sorry
if I smiled at you,
But surely
you can understand my confusion,
You see,
it was simply human instinct
to smile at something I knew.

And I suppose I just assumed
(and I suppose I was wrong)
that perhaps they might remember
me too,
And I wasn't thinking,
It was automatic...
But I'm sorry,
I shouldn't be making excuses,
I should have remembered
that you don't do that anymore.

I'm sorry if I smiled at you,
I just
don't know what happened.

We never say, "I love you."
The words always get stuck somewhere between our hearts and our tongues. Forcing us to swallow our affection, and replace the phrases that seem so hard to say with words that are much easier to get out.

Instead of "I miss you." we say "*******."
The distance makes us distraught, as we toss knives at the one person we never want to push away.

Instead of "I trust you." we ask each other to check our phones, because there's nothing on there I don't want her to see.

Instead of "I need you." we look at colleges together.
The idea of leaving each other is so implausible that we spend our time designing our future apartment. Each draft has one shared detail- a wooden bunk bed, so we can fall asleep to the sound of the other's breathing, the reassurance that we  will never have to be alone. The reassurance that I will never have to live without my other half.

We never say, "I love you."
We do not need to.
We say it with every sarcastic comment, every inside joke, shared memory, favorite song, every inhale, and every exhale.

I miss you.
I trust you.
I need you.

We never say, "I love you."
Either that, or we never stop saying it.
