Unsocial distancing
I saw this girl in a supermarket isle
I'd been interested in her for quite awhile
She'd filled her trolley with all things that I like
Except for the broccoli that can cause a spike
But she loves biscuits, crisps and sweets
Chocolate buttons and other treats
My courage built just in time
We met at the corner, by the wine
Here's my chat up line, now, where do I start
But how can I tell her at 2 meters apart
A knock on the door
a smile on his face
I'm here to help you
in your safe place
I paused and though
is he for real
the smile on his face
looked the real deal
I welcomed him in
I knew it was wrong
can I go to the bathroom
I just went along
He rushed for the exit
and slammed the door
my bedroom was in turmoil
scattered all over the floor
my jewellery was missing
handed down from my Mum
my heart was broken
all my senses were numb
Now I'm left with no safe place
so please hear what I say
if someone comes knocking
just send them away

Demons in the night
The nights a lonely place when the demons are in you head
You mull around for hours picking holes in what was said
Your eyes are wide open your head is in a spin
You growl at the curtains for letting a ***** of light in

Then you gather up your thoughts and very deeply breath
You head slowly clears as the demons start to leave
You concentrate in breathing deeply through your nose
Then just when you're not expecting it your eyes start to close

Careful What you Wish for
As he cast a lucky penny out into the sea, and wished,
it caught a wave and drifted down to the bottom.
Alert as always, the impact was seen by a hungry small fish
gulping up debris and food alike.

Its silver flash caught in the eye of predator who swallowed
it whole, now, with craving taste buds it spied a worm,
dangling in mid depth.
With one swish of its tail it flew to the surface,
dangling in mid air.

The fisherman smiled at such a prize, packed it in ice and sent it on
Its way to a local restaurant, to be dressed in
the finest salad, pride and place.

Feeling peckish after his walk on the sandy shore, the lucky penny thrower spied the mouth watering fish, napkin, knife and fork at the ready, quickly tucked in.

As the tender meat slowly slid down the back of is throat, so did the lucky penny.
He keeled over and died.

The moral of the story is.

There is no such thing as a Lucky Penny.
If there was why would you throw it away.

Shinning brightly guarding

On the horizon hope of a

Desciple, tough job.
If your god followed you for just one day
What words of wisdom would it have to say

Life is not laying in the sun amongst the freshly cut hay
Or gazing on the fields watching the rabbits play

Make your mark on life there are many paths to lay
Gather the lost souls and help them find their way

If your god followed you on the second day
Would you have heeded its words of wisdom
what would it have to say

Sing me love songs
You gave me your reasons and said your goodbye
I held on to my tears, I will not cry

I will mourn your passing, I don’t know why
The pain will subside, I will not cry

But I know if I’m going to bid you goodbye
Release the anger inside, I will have to cry

I’ll play our love song so sad now, I’ll cry
Then my last tears for you, I will surely dry

I ponder
The world spins though we are flat
The magician the rabbit and the black top hat
We live to die to meet our maker
13 loaves equal a dozen said the baker
Then when the sun sets on your sleepy face
The moon the stars stare deep into space
So, we try to make sence, knowledge gives us the thirst
Was it the chicken or the egg that came here first

Death knocked, I answered
I will pause for a while
                                 To catch my breath
Let me lie in the grass and be still

I will dream of my love
Of a life that has run
How lucky I crossed that path

The life that I had
Is the life that we had
But to share it with you I was blest

When I awake
I will smile at the sun
And admire what god has begun

Then I’ll wait by the gate
For when your days are run
And we’ll lie in the grass and be still
The watch was drawn the
pendulum swung
My voice and my voice only came a
sleeping hum
A mist grew over me I was taken
far back
It was a summers day on an
old dirt track
I recalled those times when our
hearts became free
I gave mine to you, you gave yours
to me
Come closer and closer not too
far back
What happened to the promises made on
that old dirt track
We married we loved the finest children
ever seen
But a disaster befell our family, called
Covid 19

For Future Generations
Four men stood carrying, one man who was dead
And laid him to rest with his friends, in a shed

A nurse sat weeping, her hands on her head
For the living she mourned, no time for the dead

A man ran out of HQ, stumbled, fell over
He smiled, then shouted, the war is over

The nurse stood and waved, and grabbed the man
The four men ran cheering, and heartily sang

There was silence, not a sound from inside the shed
They once had their lives, now they are our dead

The wars, the suffering, we all deeply regret
Their memories are now yours, less you forget

The first time this spring

So, the Robins sing

Is it because, I’m in isolation?

Say it or lose it
My head is on fire
My eyes are steamed up
My coffees cold
In a paper cup

I’ve been thinking and thinking
For hours at a time
Decisions stay silent
No further down the line

A deep breath is taken
I’m poised to break through
What I’m tying to say is
I love you

Midwinter!
The snowdrop tested the winter air
To be met by the ***** with an hypnotic stare
As the robin picked for its daily treat
The snow fell steadily around its feet

An owl sat on an oak branch just half asleep
Watching a sheepdog circle the last rouge sheep
And in the distance a great mountain hare
Now attracting the vixens hypnotic stare

But daylight quickly turned to night
The midwinter moon shone its haunting light
The small rodents in panic ran out of sight
As the owl circled in silent flight
We’ve all bought a ticket
whether we want to or not
No unclaimed tickets
to add to the ***
Another 700 unlucky
winners today
A newsreader reports
in a blasé way
So, I sit in isolation
I’ve done all I can do
Then dream of tomorrow's draw
will it be me, or you

Perfect Day
The warm sun on your face
                                         And a big blue sky

The smell of freshly baked bread
                                         Just floating by

A glass of wine on the table
                                        With a dear old friend

A day of peace and love
                                    Never wanting it to end
In the throng of Ginza,Tokyo City
they greet you with a smile and a bow
scanning the shūji sign posts
they will point the way you should go

In the smiles of a thousand faces
waiting for the red man to turn to green
there patience is rewarded, eventually
as a new crowd joins the scene

Then as you reach your destination
take a stroll amongst he trees, umbrellas and hats
bow and clap your hands three times
to a shrine dedicated to cats

Gospel
The boulder already rolled, they look inside
Empty deathbed, a resurrection? Nowhere to hide

A blooded shroud, the ultimate price
Destined to be a relic of Christ

We follow his foot prints, until he was within our reach
He challenged us all to go forth and preach

Peace and love throughout the land
Rejoice in the lord, join together, hand in hand

As I read your name
                           I wonder why
There are rolling white clouds in a big blue sky

As I read your name
                           It makes me smile
The walks we had down that long country mile

As I read your name
                            I start to cry
You said you'd never leave and I wonder why

As I read your name
                     I'm filled with pain
and wonder when we'll meet again

River Talk
Silently the crystal clear river flows.
A cormorant dives, out of view,
as the sound of a woodpecker
from deep within the forest rattles on a tree,
looking for grubs.
The empty beaked cormorant surfaced, floating low in the water,
looked around, and tries again.
An angler sits on the bank and nods in the heat of the noon day sun, his float, floats,
Waiting.
A trout breaks the surface, collects his dinner and dives.
The angler still sits nodding,
the cormorant flies off, empty beaked.
And the woodpecker rattles on another tree.
As silently the crystal clear river flows on.

Yes, I do know it's Friday my turn to empty the bin

And yes I've washed my hands as soon as I came back
And I heard you singing that song hit the road Jack...…..

So I popped a cork, poured you a nice glass of wine
The smile on your face says we're doing just fine

Beach robbery
The sun shone over the sandy shore
lapped by the waves that travelled from far out to sea
peace was all around
and sleep was but a breath away
as the sun caressed his tired body

The seagulls cry pierced the air
then the cry of a child brought adults to heal
the carnage on the Prominade
was not for the faint hearted
chips and sausages were being fought over
by pecking birds
the children stood
as the parents swung their feet
as the last chip flew over head
the sausages were well gone
late commers swooped down to survey the scene
paper blew in the wind
followed by an empty carton of chips
a loan dog walker collected the debris to the nearest bin
the children still sobbing
walked back to the chip shop
and sat out of view with their new dinner
The chippy smiled as he opened the till
and cursed the gulls with a grin

The sunbather listened
as the peace gathered and breathed gently
as he drifted to a snooze
a Splat
awoke him
he became a victim of the digested stolen chips
apart from the cursing of the sunbather
and the tutting of his neighbours
all you could hear
was the lapping of the waves

Grandpa's Christmas
The cold wind wrapped around the red nose
of the old man.
As he travelled, just a short distance
ladened with presents.
A family Christmas reunion.

Not far from their home, he paused for breath.
A thought of his lost love, saddened him,
as a snowflake brushed his cheek,
and more dusted his head.
"I love you too," he said, with a smile.

In the distance, he heard the sound of Carol Singers.
Thoughts of Christmas, warmed his soul,
and those happy little face, waiting.
Moments later, he tapped on their door,
to the tune of Deck The Halls, Christmas Carol.

Then, he heard the exited children, calling his name,
the door opened, and the smell and love of Christmas
caressed him.
A tear welled, and nearly escaped, as he welcomed everyone
with. "Merry Christmas."

Passing the presents to his son, and daughter,
in a welcome exchange, for a hot toddy.
The presents were safely stacked, under the
brightly lighted, Christmas tree.

He sat and smiled, cheeks, now as red as his nose,
Grandpa, called out the names of his exited little family.
The well broke, all down his cheek, it was
the happies time of his life, Christmas with his family.

Wild Camping
I awoke to the silence
at first welcoming
then eerie, I was being watched
I quietly unzipped to peek outside
The dew upon the grass shone like diamonds
as the dawn rose
Thick mist blocked my vista of the woods that
I knew lay beyond the field
my eyes came to life as a shadow stood at the edge of the mist
His outline stood bold, muscles twitched as he grazed
ears alert to every sound, vast twisted antlers nodding with every chew of the cud
I moved slowly, then our eyes met

I could feel the beating of me heart, he could hear it
as his snort blew white

The most beautiful moment of my life

I blinked and he was gone

The Nightingale sings as she looks through her busy windows

The white Storks are nursing from bed to bed
While the upright Otter checks clipboard to clipboard
As busy Beavers wipe everything down keeping all safe
Under the gaze of the wise old Owl hooting with pride at her team
The nutty Squirrels dish out their tightly guarded stash
Security Badgers stands firm protecting their brood
While the happy Hare dashes here and there bringing in the sick

And the People wait

I kissed a frog
While sat by a stream reading a fairy tale book
the words steamed my brain and I began to cook
I imagined a castle sat on a great rock
music was playing I danced in a silk frock
Then I heard his voice with an accent so sweet
I turned to find flowers covering my feet
I kneeled down to pick them then I looked into his eyes
he said take a seat to my shock and surprise
I looked to where he pointed at an old worn out log
and this is where I kissed him that green slimy frog
So the moral of this story is when you read a fairy tale book
don't believe all that is written or your brain will start to cook

In my head your so lyrical, funny and wise

On paper, your beauty, brings tears to my eyes

Yet, I persist in your story, and how it should be told

I'll open my heart, let my feelings unfold

I met you on that summers day, saw the wind in your hair
I loved you at first sight, put my heart in your care
We rode through the forests, fields, and mountains up high
The views of the valleys made me wish we could fly
Do you ponder, of who I write of, I'll tell you, of course
His name is Sunset, he's an Arabian horse

The tension rose

She screamed with joy

I reacted, to slow
She stole my chocolate bunny

Just a Dream
A barren field covered with snow
I walked and walked, where did I go

I turned, looked back, a feeling of woe
I could see not footprints in the snow

I walked back the way I'd came
Nothing looked quite the same

I turned, looked back to where I'd been
No sign of footprints could be seen

Then I remembered
It was
Just a dream
I pulled you to hard
and my thumbs made the tear
you've been with me so long
I took you, everywhere

Now you lay still
on my cold bedroom floor
sadly, I take one more glance
as I walk through the door

In the recycling bag
I lay you to rest
along with your partner
my slinky blue vest

Then, I reminisce of our times
around the boulevards in France
please, rest in peace
my lucky blue pants
Christmas is coming.
