Careful What you Wish for
As he cast a lucky penny out into the sea, and wished,
it caught a wave and drifted down to the bottom.
Alert as always, the impact was seen by a hungry small fish
gulping up debris and food alike.

Its silver flash caught in the eye of predator who swallowed
it whole, now, with craving taste buds it spied a worm,
dangling in mid depth.
With one swish of its tail it flew to the surface,
dangling in mid air.

The fisherman smiled at such a prize, packed it in ice and sent it on
Its way to a local restaurant, to be dressed in
the finest salad, pride and place.

Feeling peckish after his walk on the sandy shore, the lucky penny thrower spied the mouth watering fish, napkin, knife and fork at the ready, quickly tucked in.

As the tender meat slowly slid down the back of is throat, so did the lucky penny.
He keeled over and died.

The moral of the story is.

There is no such thing as a Lucky Penny.
If there was why would you throw it away.

Good or bad? you decide
The wind brought a taste I will never forget
It lingered for a while, no for a lifetime
Only on the day my eyes closed did the taste drifted away
Did you smell it, can you smell it now?

Honey I'm home
I smelt you on his collar when he came home late from work
Your name is on his texts, he laughs, then eyes me with a smirk
I look at him and smile but think, O what a F** ****
I can't wait until the morning when I pack him back off to work

He shouts I'll see you later honey, but I may be late
My bags are packed the taxis here I'm off to meet my fate
He came home to silence, eyes wide open as he closed the gate
I'm not home honey, neither were you and I just couldn't wait

The empty picnic table
A light wind picked up and carried leftover crumbs, gently laying them on a crisp brown sycamore leaf

The ants were busy carrying away bits of sausage, rolled in pastry which flaked off as they ran

A robin watched on excitedly until a squirrel grabbed the sausage roll and stuffed it in his cheek

Not despondent the ants spied the sycamore leaf and its contents

Remains of a ham and cheese sandwich flew in the magpies mouth to the nearest branch

The robin amused itself by watching a sycamore leaf racing across the grass before it finished off the fallen pastry flakes

The picnic table was now empty

Death knocked, I answered
I will pause for a while
                                 To catch my breath
Let me lie in the grass and be still

I will dream of my love
Of a life that has run
How lucky I crossed that path

The life that I had
Is the life that we had
But to share it with you I was blest

When I awake
I will smile at the sun
And admire what god has begun

Then I’ll wait by the gate
For when your days are run
And we’ll lie in the grass and be still

Time is called
The fires are burning brightly in the little stone cottages of this dying village.
After their last day at work, the men walk the cobble stones for the last time.
With news to share with their families, some pause at the local inn to contemplate.

The rain falls and the children huddle around the bright burning coal fire hacked from the face by their father.
Waiting for his smile to round the door and supper to be served.

The ****** blows for the last time, as a miners sit sipping their ale thinking of the men and boys left to haunt the empty tram ways and coal faces.
Do they feel lucky, not tonight, just betrayed and alone?

Time is called
I ponder how long I will sit in your chair
As I lift my right hand and let it run through my hair.

Your concentration is attached to your computer screen
As I study with disdain at your office colour scheme.

I shuffle my seat and aim a smiling glare
Just a reminder that I'm still sat there

You click BUY, to late with a sigh and a yelp
Then look at me with a smile, and say how can I help

I ponder the question, do you really give a ****?
I say, thanks very much I don't think you can

Desciple, tough job.
If your god followed you for just one day
What words of wisdom would it have to say

Life is not laying in the sun amongst the freshly cut hay
Or gazing on the fields watching the rabbits play

Make your mark on life there are many paths to lay
Gather the lost souls and help them find their way

If your god followed you on the second day
Would you have heeded its words of wisdom
what would it have to say

Today
I woke up in the morning and I said to myself
Today it’s gonna be today
So, I looked in the mirror with a sparkling smile
And I said to myself
Today it’s gonna be today
Clicked my heels as I ran out of the door
And I said to myself
Today it’s gonna be today

So, I pushed the door open
and the smile on her face said
Today it’s gonna be today
A deep breath taken
and I blurted out the words
the whole shop shouted
Today he’s gone and done it today

So, if you have something
You should have said
I think you know
Today it’s gonna be today

Time to think, LD
Have you noticed the sound of the trees
when the wind blows through the leaves?
The road with no cars?
Or so many different birds whistling their song?
And the robin watching you move your garden pots
Waiting for a treat.
Or counting the buds on your poppy plant,
the smell of your flowers, as they call to the bees
and pass on their love.

Or the chair in your garden
waiting for the sun,
next to the table with your favourite book.
And the peace you find
when sat in your chair thinking of your day,
as you marvel at the beauty,
and wonder why it has past you by, until now.

A cold grey headstone and I wonder why

The vow
When I took your name
You gave me vows which didn’t quite hit the mark

I expected for better, much better
And in very good health, like fit and hot
And to be rich, really rich
And cherished every hour of the day

And I bet your going to live until your 100

So, out of respect
I’m off

For Future Generations
Four men stood carrying, one man who was dead
And laid him to rest with his friends, in a shed

A nurse sat weeping, her hands on her head
For the living she mourned, no time for the dead

A man ran out of HQ, stumbled, fell over
He smiled, then shouted, the war is over

The nurse stood and waved, and grabbed the man
The four men ran cheering, and heartily sang

There was silence, not a sound from inside the shed
They once had their lives, now they are our dead

The wars, the suffering, we all deeply regret
Their memories are now yours, less you forget

I held on to my tears, I will not cry

I will mourn your passing, I don’t know why
The pain will subside, I will not cry

Release the anger inside, I will have to cry

Perfect Day
The warm sun on your face
                                         And a big blue sky

The smell of freshly baked bread
                                         Just floating by

A glass of wine on the table
                                        With a dear old friend

A day of peace and love
                                    Never wanting it to end
The watch was drawn the
pendulum swung
My voice and my voice only came a
sleeping hum
A mist grew over me I was taken
far back
It was a summers day on an
old dirt track
I recalled those times when our
hearts became free
I gave mine to you, you gave yours
to me
Come closer and closer not too
far back
What happened to the promises made on
that old dirt track
We married we loved the finest children
ever seen
But a disaster befell our family, called
Covid 19

I ponder
The world spins though we are flat
The magician the rabbit and the black top hat
We live to die to meet our maker
13 loaves equal a dozen said the baker
Then when the sun sets on your sleepy face
The moon the stars stare deep into space
So, we try to make sence, knowledge gives us the thirst
Was it the chicken or the egg that came here first

The Nightingale sings as she looks through her busy windows

The white Storks are nursing from bed to bed
While the upright Otter checks clipboard to clipboard
As busy Beavers wipe everything down keeping all safe
Under the gaze of the wise old Owl hooting with pride at her team
The nutty Squirrels dish out their tightly guarded stash
Security Badgers stands firm protecting their brood
While the happy Hare dashes here and there bringing in the sick

River Talk
Silently the crystal clear river flows.
A cormorant dives, out of view,
as the sound of a woodpecker
from deep within the forest rattles on a tree,
looking for grubs.
The empty beaked cormorant surfaced, floating low in the water,
looked around, and tries again.
An angler sits on the bank and nods in the heat of the noon day sun, his float, floats,
Waiting.
A trout breaks the surface, collects his dinner and dives.
The angler still sits nodding,
the cormorant flies off, empty beaked.
And the woodpecker rattles on another tree.
As silently the crystal clear river flows on.

The boulder already rolled, they look inside
Empty deathbed, a resurrection? Nowhere to hide

A blooded shroud, the ultimate price
Destined to be a relic of Christ

We follow his foot prints, until he was within our reach
He challenged us all to go forth and preach

Peace and love throughout the land
Rejoice in the lord, join together, hand in hand

And I heard you singing that song hit the road Jack...…..

Just a Dream
A barren field covered with snow
I walked and walked, where did I go

I turned, looked back, a feeling of woe
I could see not footprints in the snow

I walked back the way I'd came
Nothing looked quite the same

I turned, looked back to where I'd been
No sign of footprints could be seen

Then I remembered
It was
Just a dream
