~for Sreetama Chatterjee, granddaughter of Pradip Chatterjee~

A first time grandfather observes,
“that one path ends, a new one begins”

A philosophy, an observation shared,
one that I am, in multiplicity acquainted

Sources inform me that Sreetama is
of Sanskrit origin, the meaning is
“gift of god”

how wonderful are the mysterious coincidences in this world!

For my Hebrew name,
Netanel, given to me at my birth, the meaning is
“gift of god”

Sources inform me that name of Sreetama has given you
the desire for creative, artistic or musical expression
in an original way.

I can pretend to be surprised, but who would I fool?

you, granddaughter of my friend, an esteemed poet,
Pradip Chatterjee,
who delights in you,
you, an exquisite of the small
you, so powerful already,
that he has shelved his writing,
(temporarily I suspect)
to tend to your upbringing

You, so powerful already,
you, will break his will, command his attention,
demanding, bringing out his issuance of a thousand poems,
all revealing and reveling in your mastery,
over him!

You, so powerful already,
in secret concert, listening secretly,
already composing silently, smilingly,
awaiting the arrival of your fine,
very fine, motor skills,
to grasp, to own!
his writing utensils, empowered,
with the strength of a child insistent

You, feeling the energy of wisdom within those instruments,
sparking a commencement and a continuation of
the generational gift residing in your senses

I await those artistic creature creations
most impatiently...

]

जिसका अर्थ है - "ईश्वर का आशीर्वाद";

Many thanks to Shiv Pratap  Pal for his translation, advice and exquisite attention to the smallest detail.

again, madness!

one eye tears, why must you return to the old familiar,
the poets prescribed, already so well covered?

why?

must. it is the only shade of my voice that persists,
all else vanity.
these are words handily eye-read, given.
all I need do is “repeat after me” somewhat well,
and fill in the blanks.

he writes me, in another place, to another name, describing himself:

“I'm a charming man with a fragile patience.”

no sir, Muses order me to disagree,
you are a fragile man with a charming patience!

your fragility is a royal hallmark, embedded in every scribing,
this human indentation, always well hidden, on the underside of the wine cup, the base of the candlesticks, the inside of the wedding ring of your tying allegiance to the humbled humanity.

the charming patience is the wait time tween your visions of
the excellence of the common, the exquisites of the small,
the delights of loss and pain translated into mercurial milestones,
poems.

here I cease, for overly long praise is a river too long, no end in sight,
making great and wide just another poem.
<>

But!
he writes me, in another place, to another name, describing himself,
yet again:

”A thousand poems I don't write, but they get written
in my heart.

A thousand!
ours is the patience fragile, your innate screen that filters out

these thousand forbidden unwritten,
needs a cleaning, open the tiny apertures and release them, for we are the humans needing, for the breathing of your fragile charm.

<>
the Muses do thee attend.
their patience neither charming or fragile,
reminding me, they too have a thousand.

a thousand other ears into which to whisper that
imperative imperial command,
and they river no delay...
the days has come when I can only write of others, this is the only shade of my voices that survives.
Hist? . . .
Through the corridor's echoes,
Louder and nearer
Comes a great shuffling of feet.
Quick, every one of you,
Strighten your quilts, and be decent!
Here's the Professor.

In he comes first
With the bright look we know,
From the broad, white brows the kind eyes
Soothing yet nerving you.  Here at his elbow,
White-capped, white-aproned, the Nurse,
Towel on arm and her inkstand
Fretful with quills.
Here in the ruck, anyhow,
Surging along,
Louts, duffers, exquisites, students, and prigs--
Whiskers and foreheads, scarf-pins and spectacles--
Hustles the Class!  And they ring themselves
Round the first bed, where the Chief
(His dressers and clerks at attention),
Bends in inspection already.

So shows the ring
Seen from behind round a conjurer
Doing his pitch in the street.
High shoulders, low shoulders, broad shoulders, narrow ones,
Round, square, and angular, serry and shove;
While from within a voice,
Gravely and weightily fluent,
Sounds; and then ceases; and suddenly
(Look at the stress of the shoulders!)
Out of a quiver of silence,
Over the hiss of the spray,
Comes a low cry, and the sound
Of breath quick intaken through teeth
Clenched in resolve.  And the Master
Breaks from the crowd, and goes,
Wiping his hands,
To the next bed, with his pupils
Flocking and whispering behind him.

Now one can see.
Case Number One
Sits (rather pale) with his bedclothes
Stripped up, and showing his foot
(Alas for God's Image!)
Swaddled in wet, white lint
Brilliantly hideous with red.

You two

Poet
Gifts.
Not to mention other top favorites I could have a Christmas list with those.
1
Get very small, sidestep time.
You are so much more than any organisation.
You’re a rushing into the valley,
a drawbridge of feeling.

Steal the fire
and when it all goes wrong
and you crash and burn,
get up as if nothing happened.

2
Warmer for the dark,
cars doors open,
the promise is there.
Guitars made for the song.

We're the fire’s bracelet.

Ah, the often sounds of night.
Mist lies low on the river,
trains stand at the station.
This joy and no other
as l laugh, laugh,
and make my way home.

3
Such are we,
surrounded by absolutes,
our minds always going,
our emotions ordered by minute dualities
into all the exquisites of desire.

Too many steps? Too near the edge?
People clash, trolleys on crazy wheels
going every which way.

Sweep away the debris.
Away with mementos.

It is a new devouring
and when the remnant wake and discover space again,
discover air,
mouths will gasp like fishes out of water.

There'll be no noise and no rejoicing.
The too astonished
will look, stare
and turn to one another,
reaching out.

DEAR PENPAL PEOPLE, this is an edited part of a very personal poem:]

only for the ones I am trashed after
only the liars that fastened in no shameful laughter
my chases that bleached me to sours
finished my mercurial hour
to an inexplicable remorse
the change in me is forced
got me on strings of trust and beliefs
for my sorry kindred heart to swallow the bate and keep
got me on barging crowds to resent
did I even know you till a sixth of ends?
got me on the hinges of misses for abandoned hates
jealous much to take and form for the exquisites late
for what do I owe this misery of a pleasant live stream of death?
for the endless end of final breathes
got me on the unwanted for the want
and the disbelieved for the believed
and the unloved for the loved
the untrusted for the trusted
the friendship for the misery blended
for the grounds to tear me up in shreds and pieces stark
to hurt the lights out of the darks
don't even think that my blood comes to your feet
last noon became my breath of free and the birth of me
got me on the hit of an awakening slam for the whisper of the mind to relinquish flames and hidden fakes
of these ****** masked stakes
not just from you you other do I get my means do you see
don't try answering me
as usual your silence reigns to the hear
and me alone is batter so far
I can draw stars
