Buddy

I have a Buddy,
True Buddy,
A Buddy all life long,
When days are long
My Buddy,
Makes right
All that's wrong.

I have a Buddy,
Dear Buddy,
A Buddy when I'm glad,
For years I know
My Buddy,
Can always count on Dad.

My little Buddy
Has a Buddy,
To always depend on;
When Buddy
Needs her Buddy,
She'll always hear her song:

     I want you Buddy
     To read to me,
     Walk with me,
     Skate with me,
     To share with me,
     To laugh with me,
     Sometimes
     To cry with me.
     I need you Buddy
     To stand with me,
     Grow with me,
     Be by me.

I have a Buddy,
True Buddy,
A Buddy
All life long.
When days are long
My Buddy,
Makes right
All that's wrong.
Written years ago for Andrea.

I
In the sunny backyard, all was motion.
The grass, flowers, trees, fountain, birds, cats,
Flies, earthworms, and small snakes,
All moving.
Only one thing was not moving:
Buddy.

II
Sleep, nap, or doze.
Buddy could not choose,
So he did all three

III
At dusk all over the neighborhood
Dogs were coming to their owners
With hope in their eyes.
Buddy was no different.
I picked up the leash.

IV
Buddy does not know whether to prefer lying in front of the back door
Or lying in front of the front door.
When lying in front of the front door
Buddy does not know whether to prefer
The anticipation of the mailman’s arrival
Or the satisfaction of chasing him away with savage barking.

V
Rain falls from the sky and from the porch roof.
Buddy stares.
He needs to go out and ***.
It is a conundrum.

VI
O thin, starving dogs of the street
Do not give up.
You can have a bed of your own, a doggie pal,
And cats to lick.
They will all worship you, and you will grow fat with contentment.

VII
The grass grows.
The clouds move across the sky.
A shallow hole in the dirt is cool and relaxing.
Buddy knows this.

VIII
Buddy turned and turned and turned on the carpet
When he lay down
The circles remained.

IX
As Buddy walks down the street
From every house, barking,
Heralding, warning, entreating, scolding.
The cacophony swells to the treetops.

X
In the dark night
On the way to get a drink of water
I stepped on a pile of clothes on the floor.
Alas, it was Buddy.

XI
Buddy and the kitten lie side by side at the front door.
Dog is in his heaven.

XII
Buddy shook all night during the thunderstorm
When the sun came out, he slept,
Exhausted.
From the years of 1931 to 1949 I lived as a cat named buddy in the dunbar household in unley in Adelaide
It was a fabulous life, running around the yards and drains expecting people to give me a saucer of cream
My owners names were Patrick dunbar and Georgina dunbar with one son named Jonithan used to pick me up and tickle me on the tummy and stroke me as I purred on the lounge room floor listening to the radio shows and the hit parades,
In this life I used to drink water from a bowl like an animal and my grandfather (pop) used to give me tea from a saucer
In memory of when I was buddy I wasn’t scared as an adult in this life when I went out to play and that is because I was having previous life memories as buddy
And in the 90s I was having hallucinations of Patrick playing with me and jonithan in the form of my friend Patrick in this life
Patrick and jonithan dunbar loved mucking around like two free boys and I sat on both their knees while they were saying to me
Patrick what’s that buddy
Tommy what’s that buddy
Patrick what’s that buddy
Tommy what’s that buddy
Tommy used to say a lot of the time
That he was smart kid yeah mate
Patrick used to put me out at 8-30 every morning and that is when I ate catnip
Jonithan used to follow me around saying
Come on buddy
What’s that buddy
Come on buddy
I used to catch mice to keep them out of the house and yard
It was basically the same roster day in day out, Tommy studied to be a scientist
And I used to sit on the window looking in on him doing experiments and my spirit made him pass for 4 years
In 1949 may 16th when Tommy was in University buddy died and Tommy was devestated and I went on to help the future which I found hard to do but as graham, grant, and Brian I and surviving
R I P buddy 18 years
hi dudes

you see as a kid, i was a bit of a brat,i hated the way that dad was

but that was because i hardly knew him, and i didn’t know the reason

why he was like a cotton wool type of adult, cotton flaming wool, what a joke

ya see dad showed me, his way, he takes no **** from anyone especially his kids

you see he felt he had to say, i wasn’t a young dude, meaning the young dudes

who look like they are going to **** their parents, or the young dudes, who take

off on an adventure not knowing where we’ll end up, and dad isn’t very fond of

this teasing parents thing,  especially when the teasing was from all the wrong reasons

and the reason why visioned dad do that again, cause he got me an iPad, and in

my psychotic episode, i threw it over the balcony, and i felt i disgraced the good

nature dad brought to me, i upset him when i said go back to smoking,k cause

he wasn’t helping me, by treating me like a little shy boy, and i disgraced dad

when i said, i hated his version of adult, you see dad was worried about the

kinds of dangers i will be in, if i tried to be a family person or young dude.

i keep telling dad, as far as my own world goes, i prefer to play shows in my room

rather than bringing that shy boy from wood berry back, just because i accidentally

lost my phone, you see dad expects me to be perfect, cause when i said, it happened

to everyone, he disagreed, and said, i was the only one, to lose my phone, as a tease.

i liked when one kid in canberra said, i was like us, man, but many delusions came out

of my head from that day, about this kid, putting himself in danger of kidnapping for me.

but he ain’t my daddy buddy.

and dad implied that, if i **** him or fight him, i will be a worthless heap of **** or a loser

and then i heard voices from the guy behind our house, Ralph, who said, i don’t think

it’s right to yell at your parents, cause they are trying to help you, and give you happiness

and then ralph implied that, it isn’r any of my business why he fights his parents, and told

me, I’m shouldn’t be a hooligan, i should be a young dude, let my dad think he has won,

cause i should be a young dude to dad and mum and my brothers point of view, cause

i used to be wild, as, and i know your brother was a yeah mate yeah kid, but we ain’t

treating you like a cool kid to us, buddy, let your family think they have won the war,

take one for the team, your parents are trying to protect you, buddy.

yeah, i know it’s fun to tease your family why they are like this, and you might look like me, ralph said

to your father, cause your parents are helping you understand, buddy, mine never did, said ralph

your mum and dads cotton wool is silly, but you need to get past this, if ya want the next step

of family person to come to you, buddy, the next step of buddy, but i am not ya daddy though,

i know your dad, was hard to understand, but he doesn’t **** us off, like ya mum or you or your

brother, buddy, your family just don’t want to see you arrested for slander, buddy, ya know that,

don’t ya buddy.

and your old mates were making fun of their good nature, i know they were weird, but they were nicde

to you buddy, ok, i am quite happy to tease the old hags with you, but you must realise, your parents are nice,

and your faster would be a yeah mate yeah kid, you saw the way he was buddy, stop trying to be shy

just like us, *******.

but i don’t want to be a shy person, and ralph said, no your father is treating you like a kid there, ya know

and i said, i am a therapy writer and therapy artist, and a poet and a youtube entertainer, ralph said

yeah, but your still nice, ya see, we treated ya like a nice person, your not like us, TAKE YOUR MEDICATION

BUDDY, TO LEAVE THIS US NOW MAN, CRAP, AWAY FROM US,

i loved my parents, i was just trying to be cool like my school mates, buddy, my parents were weird, but they

loved me a lot, i want to make a mockery of them, but dad and mum were worried, young dudes will take it

the wrong way, saying i am a shy person, no i am a famous writer, artiist and youtube and internet entertainer

and i am cooler than they are, i think i am adopted, cause i am different to they are, but all my problems were

based on previous lives, not friends or family or myself.
No you are still a young dude, even though

My stupid old mate from school, always treats me like a young dude
Even if he knows I will prefer to be a cool kid to the adults
And I mean the mature adults, because the young dudes he means
Are too immature for me, I know I am a man, and I ain!t too shy to be a man
And my friend needs to fucken get a life
Because screams out of his house saying, no your still a little young dude, man
Your not a cool kid anymore, man, blah blah blah blah
This drives me c r a z y, because I am in my 40s I am not young
I am a middle-ager who loves life, and I mean real life
Not this crazy life you see at the local malls
My friend from school is sitting there saying over and over again
Your still a young dude, mate, and he says that 100 times
Your still a young dude, your still a young dude, your still a young dude
FUCKEN SHUT UP, I want to be together, and not sit at the mall
Seeing this spontaneous atmosphere, structure works better
If you are structured, your mind is better, and my old school friend says
Be a little young dude, be a little young Dude, be a little young dude
I am a man, and I want people to be normal, not fake normal
Treating me like a shy person coming through
Cause I ain't a shy person, so mate, while your sitting there saying
I am still a little young dude, think about me, I am a real man
A creative man,  don't drink, I don't smoke, and I don't do spur of the moment ****
So stop saying your still a little young dude, aren't young, I am a man
******* and leave me the **** alone, I ain't young anymore
You are driving me crazy trying to keep saying i am a little young dude
And when I go out and be a cool kid, he will say, 'laughing'
Yeah come on and try and be a cool kid to the families, come on
You see mate, you are shy, and the only way you are like us
Is if you watch me, and that is the only way, you aren't a normal man
So now mate, you are a little young dude, and then my school friend
Says to the townsfolk, don't be his kind of cool, cause he is still a young dude
And he will say after that, hang on and them say after I don't respond
No your a little young dude, and when my father yells our get ****** mate
And then he pushes his mouth side to side, thinking oh a little kid, he is
And then this friend says get ****** me, moving his mouth side to side saying the same
Then when i go out, he will say, no, your not like us, buddy, no your not like us anymore buddy, you are still a little young dude, oh baby, yes, you are still a little young dude, who
Really hasn't a pressure in the world, then I get up and work in the house
Or I will go and do something that is part of life, he will say no, don't muck with him
Anymore townsfolk, cause he is still a little young dude, yeah still a little young dude
And when I look at him, he will look at me and smile, to me I saw the little shy boy thing
As he is treating me like a cool person, cause I don't know what cool is
But really he is trying to stop me from being a creative person, and them I look
Around, he says, no, buddy, your still a little young dude, b. u. d.  d.   y
Your too shy to be like us, buddy, and I said, I am a man, because
He is the one who is too shy, cause he has no fucken class, dudes
You see if ignore him, my mind is full of the old men trying to call me a coward
And when they can't get it through to me, the young men will call me a ****
And I went around saying, I am not a little baby shy boy, you guys aren't like us, man
Then my friend says, no, your still a little young dude, man
You are too shy to be like us, buddy, your still a little young dude,,buddy
It's enough to drive you to drink and I did, at that moment I was so *******
At him saying to me, your still a little young dude buddy, I drank myself stupid
And it didn't fucken stop, my school friend sat there in his house
On the other side of the town, sat there smiling, saying, your a little young dude buddy
And then let out a very big smile, and your still a little young dude, your
In an imaginery little world, too afraid of the real world
I sit and think about it, what is the real world anyway, there is no real world
It's a world which is part imaginery and part real
And as long as you balance it well, you'll be so cool
But, at this moment in time, I ain't a young dude, I am a middle aged man with
A heart of gold, and when I go out, I see two kids playing at the shops
And then they leave, and they both say, your still a little young dude
And I say, no, dudes, I am a real real man, with a heart of steel
I don't get a license, cause for me, it's so unreal
The force is trying to give me cancer, but,no kind sir
I am too smart for that, uh
Then my friend came up to me and said, you are still a little young dude with no friends
Whose a little young dude with no friends, your a little young dude with no friends
Then you go to the local shops and you see kids hassling his their dad
For money to buy sweets, the father doesn't want to, he wants to be together
Cause that way, he will wonder whether, he wants to stay with his kids
Or does his kids act like little wimps,
And in the background, his friend says this, listen everyone as a young dude will say
Everyone he is a little young dude guys sure mate
And then he lifts up his leg and shows them off to his friend
And then says your still a little young dude, don't try and be like us
You see dude, the real world is so tough, so stay inside being a little young dude, ******
After about 5 minutes of trying to push everyone together
He will put his foot down on the floor, your still a young dude, don't try and be like us
Your not a cool kid, or a cool man, and I said no, *******, I am a man
Your are just mucking with the men, ya stupid ****
Then he will put his foot on the floor and say again, your still a little young dude
You are too shy to be like us, buddy boy
I told him I am a man, I go on holidays and I work and I try to find something around town
Cool to hang around and be civilized, but I aren't a little young dude, mate, I am a big man
Then my friend said, no you are a little young dude, buddy
And before I say I am a man, another person says that there a man
And then says, no your a little young dude buddy, what's your fucken problem
You stupid little ******* monkey, you and your friend ain't like us
Let's muck with these two losers and treat them both like people we want to muck with
And my friend got really hyped up over it, and said, that I am a little young dude
And then I told him that I ain't a young dude anymore, but he said, yes you are
You are a young dude, and I told my friend to leave me the **** alone
I don't want to be a young dude, I want to be a man, who wants to be together
You are keeping me with you, no I don't want to be a little young dude
I am not shy, I know the shopping centres have heaps of hustle and bustle
And I know that everyone will move down the coast if it was cheap
And I also know that it has to be expensive because it's the only way they will make money
I know that the labor party helps the poor while liberals help their poor wallets
I don't want to stay down with this crazy friend who keeps stomping his foot down on
The floor and says your still a young dude, your not like us, he says with a really wingey voice, and he does that for about 15 minutes and the men say, leave him alone mate, he is not a man, he is still a little young dude, buddy boy, he will never be a young dude again
While you are thinking that, he sits in his house saying good mate, be a young dude
But then he will stomp his foot right on the ground, and say, your still a young dude
You see, I don't want him to treat me like a brother, cause I don't **** people off
I don't need people to treat me like a shy boy who knows nothing
And then he says to me, no your still a little young dude, mate
And I go f......u......c.........k, leave me alone mate, I am not young anymore,  nobody his ******* with me, so shut it

I walked in silent isolation
My virtuous heart since birth
Now, stunned at the mass confusion
The world’s reaction to its worth

With faith I held out for a strand
of rope to break the fall
I knew time would now be fleeting
I reached out to one and all

Strangers, friends and family
Every church that I could find
I utilized the “viral” speech
And asked for help to lead the blind

I knew the mountain too high
My shovel would move slow
I needed strength in numbers
To resist the heavy blow

Buddy, Can You Spare A Dime?
Perhaps a pence or Two?

Buddy, Can You Spare some Time?
I’d do the same for you.

Buddy Can You Spare A Prayer?
This will surely do.

(No response.  What could I do?
Your loud silence answered true.
You now avoid me, silly you.
You best thank God, it isn’t you.)

I still walk the path alone
My faith you have not crumbled.
I understand the attitude
We all are weak, we all have stumbled.

You feel that times are rough enough
For many, if not all
You gaze upon your own troubles
Too many to recall

You cannot fathom helping one
Whose pain you cannot feel
You must know it, see it,
Achieve joy inside
Otherwise, there is no deal.

Well, Buddy I must let you know
Now that the day is through
I spared a prayer for you today
That your heartaches will be few

And if you should ever need something
I pray that you will find
A response much greater than the one
You offered, friend of mine.

Buddy, Can You Spare A Dime?
Perhaps a pence or Two?

Buddy, Can You Spare some Time?
I’d do the same for you.

Buddy Can You Spare A Prayer?
This will surely do.

Your loud silence answered true.

You best thank God, it isn’t you.

Hey there buddy
Sure has been a while, hasn’t it
A couple different years but same old ****
Clogging each toilet like life depended on it

You have forgotten, and that’s perfectly fine
Go about your day and sip your wine
Is it better to forget you chopped down my vine?

Well, I’d say *******
But that’s what you want. You want me to hate you
I’d say **** me
But whenever you did you always faked it too

Why did I ever let you slip into my sheets,
Stain each paper close to me.
Because buddy, you said you wouldn’t leave me.
Because buddy, your friend was all I wanted to be.

Hey there buddy.
You’re shaking your head in total dismay
But I had to do that every single day
When I would say hello to the wind when I wanted the river.

Sure I must sound like I’m a total nut case
But who made me like that in the first place
Is it better to forget this tortured face?

Well, I’d say forget you
But that’s what you want. You want me to hate you
I’d say forget me
But you already have, I’m nothing to you.

Why did I ever let you slip into my sheets,
Stain each paper close to me.
Because buddy, you said the closest thing to you was me.
Because buddy, your friend was all I wanted to be.

Hey there, buddy.
Wishing you the best in your new life
It’s not really new just ‘cause you turned the knife
My blood’s still spattered on the other side.
NOTE- I was not actually drunk when I wrote this. I don't drink. But, in my current enotional state, I might as well be.
Remember back to long ago
When they taught us all in school
That when we heard the air raid siren
Duck and Cover was the rule

The times they are a'changing
And the rules are still the same
When you hear that air raid siren
Duck and Cover's not a game

Duck and Cover Buddy
See the flash and go to ground
Don't speak, just Duck and Cover
Duck and Cover, at the sound
It may not be a siren
It may be in your head
So, Duck and Cover buddy
Duck and Cover or you're dead

There's times in every marriage
When it's best to turn away
When silence is a virtue
It's best just not to say
Keep Quiet if it's possible
Say very little if you must
You know deep down what you have to do
Remember back and just...

Duck and Cover Buddy
See the flash and go to ground
Don't speak, just Duck and Cover
Duck and Cover, at the sound
It may not be a siren
It may be in your head
So, Duck and Cover buddy
Duck and Cover or you're dead

Questions left unanswered
Leave you open to a fight
Choose your battles wisely
No response is right
There's the ever dreaded question
Do I look fat in this?
Compared to what's no answer
The thing to do is this...

Duck and Cover Buddy
See the flash and go to ground
Don't speak, just Duck and Cover
Duck and Cover, at the sound
It may not be a siren
It may be in your head
So, Duck and Cover buddy
Duck and Cover or you're dead

Duck and Cover Buddy
See the flash and go to ground
Don't speak, just Duck and Cover
Duck and Cover, at the sound
It may not be a siren
It may be in your head
So, Duck and Cover buddy
Duck and Cover or you're dead
you see i hear my mates getting worried about what i am hearing

you see the first voice i hear made my mates worry, you see

when i was young i heard a voice saying trying to be a young dude

in a really loud mans kid voice, but my mates didn’t want me to hear them

so the man who said that in my head said, that was just a voice, buddy

i never stopped him from being a little young dude, ok and he was worried

and said he likes me too much for me to hear those voices from the past

in my head, and then my mate worried why i was teasing him and then

that same person said, buddy, he’s hearing voices buddy, he still likes you

but not in a gay way, i have no idea, what he is hearing, and then he yelled out

TRYING TO BE A YOUNG DUDE, i said that is just a voice, and they said

the voice is true, and then this person in my head treated my mate like a cooool kid

and i hear voices of my brother sending his kid up to muck with dad and mum

going to bed to muck with dad and my mate pat going up to space to keep me in the family

but i tell him that i am mucking with bon scott and pat said, don’t muck him bon scott sure mate

or occasionally i muck around with don lane and graham kennedy and last week at the poetry slam

i dressed up as grey ham kennel tea to honour graham kennedy’s work on earth, ya see

and i welcomed robin williams into space and made robin twin up with my dad, the terrible voice in

the past flew up to outer space to take my cool kid away and flew down saying trying to be a young dude

and my mate pat went over and said, why are you mucking with him, he said, he stared at me, buddy

but don’t be shy of how you acted, ok, you should be nice to your friend brian ok, but that was just a voice

ya see my dad was mucking with his dad, and now he is dead, he is trying to make me understand that cat-fighting is wrong

you see dad wants to take me and my brothers cool kids away, for the natural fact that we’re not kids anymore

that voice is saying, he’s not a cool kid, he’s not a cool kid, and when my mate pat got all worked up, this voice flew down

to earth saying he is hearing mental voices buddy, buddy, your friend is mental, buddy, ok he has nothing against you, ok

while my carer comes in and says, these voices sound horrible, ok

— The End —
