[ode to my vehicle]*

always mindful

not to love things or stuff

living so that it

could all burn

and it would be nothing

but an inconvenience

always mindful
   to love the people
because for these
there are no replacements

three objects

have escaped my plan

maneuvered

through my designs
and i fell in love with 3 things:

1. *old white macbook
*
my beautiful

smart

well-designed

whirring piece of brilliant technology

you are already gone.

2. *wedding rings

  (irrelevant)

 i used to believe the
   joke of the symbolism
i fell prey to the beauty of
    well designed twisted metal
and stone.
no more.

3. asian machine love
*
    (a.k.a. mitsubishi outlander sport)

i am having a hard time

having to let you go

my beautiful, black mitsubishi.

i chose you.

i researched for weeks

analyzing data

comparing machines

prices

trying to be reasonable

and out of all the machines,

i. chose. you.

you are the perfect shape

of all vehicle shapes, mitsubishi

you fulfill my obsession with

design

     lines

c o l o r

efficiency

speed

    and b  o  o  m  i  n  g SOUND

you are the perfect balance of safety

including 4WD

and fuel efficiency

your headlights are so bright

and your high beams

so magnificent
  it's almost embarrassing

mitsubishi, you little snake...
  you have a manual mode

so i can choose to be a race car driver
  whenever i want

mitsubishi outlander sport, i love you so

*

let's talk about your face

(you have a pig-face like me
)
your nose is abrupt

it's blunt and it's different

and i love it

you know i hate the cold and the snow
   so you heat my seats
you warn me about ice
  you wipe away the rain

  without me having to ask

you cast light into the dark

  all on your own

gps

  usb

subwoofer

  rockford fosgate

bluetooth

mitsubishi,
you shake the earth

 blasting music
through my dna

  so that i am made
of vibrations
and air

  invisible to the naked eye

or playing my science fiction audiobooks

  at a reasonable

and responsible volume

mitsubishi,
you respond to me
with such grace

showing me impossibilities

with a rearview camera

saying, "hello!" in the morning

and, "see ya!" when i leave

(and i believe you mean it)

the deer was not your fault.

or mine, or the deer's.

we were all doing what we do,

and to be quite honest,

the deer got the **** end of the stick, mitsubishi.

the kids like
  to go in
"mandy's car"
    they like to
look through the moonroof
and i know they are safe
 .
you are my one machine love

with power

combustion

     and pistons

you are electric

  intelligent

and you boom

  sleek

comfortable

          well designed

i don't want to see you burn.

it would be more than an inconvenience.
but you will burn. he will burn you.
it won't be me, mitsubishi.

he will take you.
he will smile when he takes you.
he likes to take what i love.
he likes to hurt people
who have never hurt him -
not once in their lives.

he is coming for you,
and i will never forgive him.
I am an orchid in a garden of roses A chess piece in a checkers set I open the doors everybody closes I smile at things everybody frowns at

I am alone, unique and different What I see vital no one else sees as important I stray from the beaten path And for this I face the majority's wrath

Being different is a lonely affair When you need a hand,no one is there For everyone else fears what they don't understand And thus won't lend a helping hand

I am alone Just me against the world But I wish I had someone of my own A lover, friend or companion

For I am an orchid in a garden of roses A chess piece in a checkers set I open the doors everybody closes I smile at things everybody frowns at

Loneliness is my fate For the world has come to a state What they hate Is what I am, an Outlander

Colored streaks on the pavement
Grinding stone against stone
We return our source of enjoyment to the Earth
Sidewalk chalk tastes like childhood.

Body tracings, blue skies, big fish-- our cement canvas is filled
Filled with youthful thoughts and unlikely realities
A world of our own creation;
One we can stomp on
Cross out
Wash away

The presence of an unknown friend
Everyone is a friend, we are young and naive
“Draw with us, Draw with us”
Our wonder reaped the same;
The new face shows only bewilderment

“Draw with us”

Chubby childish hands exchange colored chalk
Despite our encouragement, this outlander won’t join in
It’s now a game for us
“Draw with us, Draw with us”
Foreign motions, fast moving fingers, a frustrated face

“Draw with us”

His hesitant movements are masked
By an apologetic smile
He brings new things to our Crayola-created universe
A trumpet, its player, a lion in mid-roar,
All things ordinary
Nothing we’ve drawn before

Like the colors we immerse ourselves in
Our company doesn’t last
Our accomplice offers a wave
Leaving his silent marks in our little world.

The feeling of being an outcast an outsider
Joke with me or on me they are always the decider
Innocent or fool. ...my so called friends the offender.
Seeking a soul in groups of stranger.
Unable to reach atleast that one defender.
Have you ever feel how it's to be an outlander.
Don't break that small innocent tiny leaf's tender.
Unbelievable how any one could be so lender.
'll be decided by the one who is the sender.
An option in aloneness not the part of the fender.
Again not innocent a fool wanted to be a member.
Won't  join that thread again O mender.
Is it so difficult to trust an anti lander..??
Let's leave one day may they find this Commender.
Cause it's very harsh full to be an outlander!!

Off lone island bay,
Outlander waves are praying,
Curly in their white caps.

Cars and lorries are creeping
Into a village still sleeping,
Coming in from nowhere.

Stones have things to voice,
There are stars of rock fish
Deep in bays with the moon.

Beyond night dream are lochs,
Darks and colds of longings,
Mountains old as confusion.

Birds chime their mouth musics,
Churlishly sent over moorlands,
All questions ring unanswered.

On broke beaches are notions
Of days strung to faraways
And sands bleached ancestral.

Off lone island bay,
Simple comings, waves, goings,
After sly moon, sun has its say.
Off lone island bay,
Outlander waves are praying,
Curly in their white caps.

Cars and lorries are creeping
Into a village still sleeping,
Coming in from nowhere.

Stones have things to voice,
There are stars of rock fish
Deep in bays with the moon.

Beyond night dream are lochs,
Darks and colds of longings,
Mountains old as confusion.

Birds chime their mouth musics,

Simple comings, waves, goings,
After sly moon, sun has its say.

Half of the night
Repines the eyes
It breaks into tears

Half of the day
Spent engrossing oneself
Into an empty fear

Half of the melody
Sung in despair
While the eyes peep out
Hoping that you'd hear

Half of the heart
Beats incautiously for an outlander
Who dwells inside

Half of the mind
Wishes to let go
That has ever or never been mine

Half of me almost
Bereft of life

Other half, around you still lays entwined!

An outlander gone astray,
a mile for each day
is now the distance
we're away,
in her mind,
on the map's line.

The connection walks with the crowd
down the road of many miles
with the track winding back
and the future still showing lack

the casualties of the past
seem discounted in the now
never count these out of hand
foundation laid by consequence

tens to thousands stepping forth
these travelers more than kin
strangers standing outside of blood
while their own is put upon

the single digits evoked a flood
now the masses are the crush
connections walking to be heard
with outlanders of common cause.

The poem “Outlander” is about coming together for a common cause, one that a larger society has resisted, even while progress has been made.

Stranger

Who is this stranger,
that looks like me; only she's a bird that escaped,
because no one could cage her.

Who is this outlander?
Who walks the halls of a high school,
without caring
about their menacing laughter.

Who is this foreigner?
Surely, she isn't here to stay.
This tiny speck of potential,
chills my bones like winter.

I am not a shape-shifter,
I am not a life-changer.
Go away rifter,
go away stranger.
In the mirror, she stares at me like she knows me, but I can't return that gaze.
