Ecocide lies
Ind Sep 2019
We need to find a new space of revolution,
Beyond this place of pollution.
Democracy’s dying - the chambers of brick and bone can no longer hone the power effectively,
And besides, the mortars crumbling.
Grumbles echo between screens until the rumbles bubble then burst and tumble onto the streets,
but cries are few and weak.
The masses are meek.
‘To question the system is extreme’ media teams scream while they profit from the chaos and hide behind headlines.
The bourgeoisie sit comfortably as their bunkers are fortified,
Happy to capitalise on destruction and dramatise death.
Their crimes are discreet,
And steeped in deceit,
Yet they remain unburdened by the bodies that pile at their feet.
Why bother searching for answers when science is censored and senses are dulled?
They want us senseless,
Immune and desensitised to the countless lies and ecocide.
“Not our species, not our problem”
But it’s both and more.
Our streets,
Our future,
Our planet.
When will the lesson sink in?
When pollution is skin deep and soil bares only the spoils of war?
The climate crisis takes no prisoners, favours neither rich nor poor.
Your wealth can’t save you.

ecocide

with words we must slay
swords we must raise

the tip of the pen is also sharp

Ecocide
Ryan O'Leary Apr 2022
I’ll take my suicide
elsewhere, out of
sight, away from
feelings of guilt or
being responsible,
also making sure
a tree is blameless.
Until we see the world
As a space shared by all living things,
Each having a right to exist;
As nature intended,
In the beginning.

Until we see the world
As an infinite wonder
Through which we wander finitely
With a duty to care and share
That all living things
Might be fruitful and multiply;
As nature intended,
In the beginning.

Until we see the world
As our most valued asset
To maintain and grow
That our children
Might thrive and prosper
Without fear of disasters,
man-made and cataclysmic;
As nature intended,
In the beginning.

Until we see the world
As the only world
There is
Or will ever be;

And reform our lives
From greed to green...

We shall ALL be victims
of the worst crime
In the history of the world:

Ecocide.

Lost to the trials of time
Human nature
Combined with unstable
Mass ecocide labor
The edifice likeliness
Face of the maker
The people at war
To construct it the greater
Win over its favor
The flavor of flesh,
Fresh, when nothing else left
As the slavers arrive
To deprive it, bereft
Of the once sanctuary's
Most bountiful feast
Of the treeless extinction
Tradition deceased
Since the first wooden ship
Came ashore on the beach
