winter
i wish for rain
to wash away
my insecurities
my immaturity and impurity
The lonely swing is swinging,
it sits patiently conversing with the ocean.

Two palm trees stand guard, as the moon
carefully bathes them with its glow.

All at the mercy of their instructor,
though the wind rarely disappoints.

what a view, what a view, as I sit
here all I can do is think of you.

I like the way you think -
sinking your own ship just to take a drink.
Soiling yourself in order to keep everyone else from scraping you clean.
I find it pretty keen -
drowning in a sea of air and floating on the steam . . .

It's disturbingly nice.

By that I mean,
if our links got intertwined we'd find ourselves in quite a knot;
Running through red lights just to make the others stop.
Brushing up on legal terms to confuse all of those cops.
Boarding over doorbells just to force our guests to knock.

I find your broken logic beautiful.
I think you're perfectly top-notch.
Nothing flows without holes.
My Dear, you are asking the hammer that broke you,
to glue back all the pieces and console you.

I know they say madness fixes madness, but
with love only what is real will do.

Have you seen the old hag in rags
Mumbling nonsense in the town square?
Her odor so pungent, even flies gag,
A Medusa who petrifies with her stare.

Her name unknown, her story a secret,
The butcher claims she’s God incognito
Here to see if we aid those who need it,
Though doubtful, such torture He’d veto.

Gossip circulates the town at every corner,
But I know the truth of this old woman.
It turns out she’s the Duchess of Arbor
Who gave it all away to the poorest children.

The fools are quick to judgement impart,
But there’s an occulted truth in every heart.

Retrospect

In retrospect,
dredging up past events
that led to the here and now.
Pending course of actions in which to exact...
Reaching as far back as the mind would allow.

In retrospect,
studying the reflection
in the rear view mirror,
as the present freezes itself intact.
Sifting through past images...
Second by second,
frame by frame.
Identifying overlooked pitfalls
and margin of errors.

In retrospect,
straddling the realm...
Where my current state of mind
lapses into a minute-long sleep.
Sights on the future... Folded blind,
discerning the treachery
of impulsive thoughts and actions.
Diving up from oceans deep,
painting the backdrop beyond paths at
unmarked junctions.

In retrospect*,
every detail deconstructed...
Deliberated against the yardstick
of what's done and the supposed.
Refracted memories snap back clean into place.
Over and over...
Layer upon layer...
Time and again forming
the looming weight
that pulls me to a stumble
into the stagnant puddle...
Of long gone days.
