Happiness, the evasive Lover of Man
Never wanting to commit
Always dancing out of reach
With enough charm to make you chase her
She teases and tempts
Seduces and beckons
Promises and smiles
But remains her own force
Unyielding to those desiring to claim her
Some brand her a myth
Others an urban legend
But those of who have seen her face
Will forever bask in the memory
Hoping to one day reclaim its vision
The splendor of her beauty
Our unattainable hope.
Hoping to find you again, Happiness, one day.
I was too busy trying not to get burned that I didn't see I was setting myself on fire
A fragment of an unfinished piece
home isn't just a four letter word
it isn't just a house or a place
with rooms and walls and boards

home is so much more

it's seeing your sister sleeping
soundly on the couch
next to the snoring dog

it's looking at old pictures
laughing about that one time
with your family by your side

it's the look your parents
give each other across the kitchen
like they've just fallen in love for the first time

it's sitting down for dinner
and smiling at each other across the table
thinking that life couldn't get any simpler

it's holding the ones you love
so tight they might break
for fear that home will lose its true meaning

home has many faces
not just simply words or places
home is full of endless love
feeling pretty thankful for my family and my home tonight.

It's cold, numbing
I'm old enough to know
The snow is no playground
Carry on if you're gonna go
The brightest stars exploded a million years ago
Darling, if you would be so kind
As to put me to sleep as you go
Because I am cold and numb
But still awake as you know
Will you please put me to sleep
If you're packing your bags for the last time
I've seen everything
If I've seen the last of you
So darling, if you would be so kind
As to put me to sleep
No more promises to keep

it's odd how we decide that we need another
person
to fuse together
by the lips
by the body
there is no other purpose
than to feel excitement
We know nothing, minds and bodies completely foreign
except to the idea of shared beauty
to the possibility of fitting together
like the threads of the duvet I am lying under
maybe someday you will sleep next to me
but for now I will think of you across the street
