Young and Naive,
unable to think about the consequences
of the words that we speak.

You’d think that an adult
could disregard their emotions
and not leave.
Not allow the words of a five year old
to haunt them in their sleep.

You’d think that a father wouldn’t allow
for his little “princess” to cry herself to sleep,
not let her mind wander through space,
trying to tell her self all that happened was make believe.
that it was all just a dream.

tell herself that if she does this from the start,
maybe her daddy issues will stay afar.
not haunt her in her sleep,
and ever believe that any of this was real.
