The howling winds rage
Bending the backs of all those
Who get in it's way

Tree limbs held aloft
In a crazed mexican wave
They yield to wind's will.

Angry waters churn
Brilliant blue to gloomy grey
Smashing upon rocks.

Watching from windows,
Spare a moment's thought for those
Who reside outside
niamh Jul 2015
On a floating pier,
My legs are steady.
The rhythm of the sea
Settling and soothing.
The whistling wind
A sweet piccolo.
The tide may leave,
But always returns.
Home.

These eggshells weren't made for walking on.
Just be honest
niamh May 2015
We hide our
True selves
In the big, wide world.
But feel free
In these dark corners
To empty our hearts.
Tell those
most important
That life's all good
And confess
To these strangers
Our true thoughts.
Don't get me wrong,
I see no harm
In what we do.
But which of
Our poetical faces
Tells lies
And which
Speaks true
.

These eggshells aren't for walking on
I'm a big girl with a heart
Be honest, tell it like it is
Though it might tear me apart.

Be honest. Never hem and haw,
Be honest, not aloof
Be honest as I'm crying,
Be honest. Tell the truth.

Just please don't beat around the bush,
I'll carry on when you are gone,
The eggshells may be broken
But they're not for walking on.

lost
adrift in a sea
of anger and betrayal,
the waves of pain
crashing down upon me.
You throw me a life ring
but I refuse to
grasp at maybes.
My body is
a temple of pain,
but I know
it will be short-lived.
And as the waves
engulf me,
I smile with relief
niamh Oct 2015
A skull crushed.
Bone fragment splinters
On a page.
Bleeding ink
And breathing words.
The colossal weight
Of hopes and dreams
Upon reality
Unversed
niamh Jan 2016
On shattered dreams
And a broken past,
We build a solid future.
Only looking back
To see how far we've come.
niamh May 2015
We ushered in an era
Of technology,
And weep for the youth
Of today.
Knowledge at the touch
Of a keyboard,
With never-ending games
To play.
Pictures, so vile,
So readily available
To those with
A warped mind.
The ability to follow
The vulnerable;
To want, to hunt,
To find.
A curtain for bullies
To hide behind
And prey on the weak
And the lonely,
A place where the timid go
To find
Their one and only.
There's pros and cons
To this world of web
We live in.
But I still weep for the
Youth of today,
No more to be
Innocent children

You bring colour
To my world of back and grey

Haunted eyes
And trembling hands.
History etched on broken skin.

I was the boss.
Emotions kept in check.
Tears shed only in solitude.
Tough as old boots.
No-one could break this ice queen.
Then she looked at me.
This tiny scrap of humanity.
And I crumbled.
niamh Jul 2015
They wander in darkness
With padlocked eyes,
They fill their ears
With sand and grit.
All they see are
The counterfeit representation
Of their warped imaginations
And all they hear
Is the gentle hum
Of blissful ignorance
niamh Jul 2015
A shattered illusion
of weeping beauty
lies upon the floor.
We can walk on it
'til our feet bleed,
or we can take the
broken pieces
and make a
kaleidoscope
of exquisite
symmetry

Give her a pool of water
And she would re-enact
The dying moments of narcissus.

Cover all the mirrors
That she may see
The ugliness within
niamh Jun 2015
She sits on her own
Watching strangers walk on by
Pen poised to tell tales.

She makes them her friends
And imagines their stories
Looks into their souls.

The words get written
Turning real strangers into
Immortal poems.

She sits all alone
With her imagination
Never on her own

If I'm a prisoner of love
Then please feel free
To lock me up & throw away the key.

But what's obvious
To those with eyes to see,
Is that love was the one to set me free

A kiss,
As soft as a feather
Given freely
With no hidden agenda.

I'm the richest woman in the world

Deeper I fall
Down this well
With no water.
Darkness takes my hand
And fear kisses my lips.
Take my eyes,
I was blinded by sight.
Guile was not a coat I wore,
But innocence keeps
None warm.
I reach for one moment
Any moment.
Sanity is fleeting.
niamh Feb 2016
Bite my lip
Draw blood
A perfect red
On imperfect white
Pain
Within love
Arched backs
On flat sheets
A moment
In a lifetime
Of moments

Jealous
Funny
Moody
Loving
Sarcastic
Anxious
A Mother.
A lover.

Why must you break me down?
I'm greater than the sum of all my parts.
niamh May 2015
Sarcasm?
Really?
Ooooh fabulous!
I love sarcasm.

A disease
That rots from the inside
Out.
Turns a beautiful
Smile
Into a poisonous sneer.
Makes foes
Out of
Reluctant friends
And turns
Towers of strength
To crumbling ruins.
Flows through your
Bloodstream
Like poison,
And seeps from
Your pores
To taint everything
Around you
With shades
Of virulent green.
A useless emotion
That makes you wish
You couldn't
Feel
At all.

Evolved from apes?
We hide our treacherous deeds behind smiling faces.
Our leaders offer up promises worth
Their weight in air.
Our children are a future we're slowly but surely destroying.
We didn't evolve.
The apes just realized the jungle is safer

In the darkest
Of my dark nights
I looked upon
A cloudy sky
And saw just one star
Looking back.
Somewhere near or far
Someone mirrored
My actions
And I smiled.
Just one is just perfect.

First kiss
Butterfly stomachs
Sweet release
I forgot to breathe

When you read my words
Do you hear the beat of my heart?
Do you see the colour of my soul?
Do you feel the strength of my emotion?
Do you sense the hurt beyond the smile?
Do you relate to my inherent hope?
Do you know how much I love?

I bleed upon these pages
So you might see
That while you've never met me
You know me
Just full of love for all my HP friends tonight :)

Stripped of your scarlet dress,
Naked before my eyes.

Your unblemished beauty
Unchanged but never the same.

Majestic in your unerring humility.
A constant in a tumultous world.

Wear what you choose
And wear it with pride.

You bring light to the dark.
What more could we ask for?

All but he had gone.
He was the last man standing.
There was no victory to be had.
Dancing with ghosts
in the evening rain,
listening to laughter
in an empty room,
phantom kisses laid
on a cold pillow,
the lingering scent
of forgotten memories.
A toast with only
one glass.
All but he had gone.
He was the last man standing.
There was no victory to be had.

The wine flows.
The stories get told.
The laughs are prolific.
This night is terrific.
Life doesn't get
Much better than this

The river meanders
On a lazy summers day.
The paper boat sails.
niamh Jun 2015
My pen is untrained
Uncultured
And uncouth.
If you came to read ballet
You'll be sorely disappointed.
It's more the dance
Of a young colt
Still trying to find her feet
Moving to a staccato rhythm.
No mellifluous flow
But a drum
With a dodgy beat

On a vast and unforgiving ocean.
Sailing through calm waters
And bloodthirsty storms,

We wander through life
Grasping a broken compass
And ask why we're lost?
niamh Jun 2015
Love is not orchestrated,
It's a live session
Full of raw hope
And risky notes
Where mistakes are made
And harmonies
Can fall short
But the music
Is all the sweeter
Because of it.
niamh Mar 2016
The night is here again
I taste it on my tongue.
Sweet starlight burst
With an undertone of pain.
I wallow in my sorrow
And drown in selfish thoughts.
The sun's a distant memory
Of a never seen tomorrow.
Fill the brittle glass,
Bitter tears of regret.
Hold the memories close,
Living dead in the past.
niamh Feb 2016
A single spear of yellow
Whispers a promise
Of spring to come.
I long for light
To pierce the darkness of this forest,
To break this hibernation,
To bathe in a golden glow,
To see the world,
And I,
Reborn.
niamh Feb 2016
And now the
Sweetest voice
Is a whisper of an echo
Of a memory.
And pictures fade,
Muted colours of shame.
And the mind
Plays ***** tricks.
And the heart
Drowns in silent tears.

you placed my love

And expected it

A summer lost
Between furtive glances
And stolen kisses.

A childhood lost
Between ***** bottles
And crumpled sheets.

A smile lost
Between expectation
And sad reality.

A heart lost
Between open highways

The night claimed you
for herself
The moon, it stole
your smile.
The stars borrowed
Your laugh.
And the sky wore
the midnight blue
of your eyes.
Dawn broke,
like a cane on the back.
And the morning wept.

He cups his hands
Beneath her face
The better to catch her tears.
He gathers her grief
Sorrow and pain
Along with all her fears.
He turns them into
A crystal dove
And then he sets it free.
She knows then that
This must be love,
