coming up for air

I've been having to catch my breath
a lot these days and it makes me wonder
if the reason is my holding it in
these past two years,
but it also makes me wonder
if someone has been taking yours away,
which makes me wonder
if I want to be breathing at all

It's funny how most people my age
just want to go out and socialize
while the best times of my life
are the ones I spent (and spend) alone in my bed
with melancholic music and closed eyes
