I’ve never received a flower
Or even a rose
But I’m a guy
So it’s acceptable I suppose
No kisses
Or sweets
No treats
That signifies ones feelings for me
No token of ones love
But I have gotten
Disappointment
Watered with hate
Planted in betrayal
Fertilized with lies
And maintained by fakes
Roses are Red
But my roses are dead
And crumble beneath my feet

I used to write
My secrets in the sand,
Knowing they would never stay
Long enough to be told.

I used to just swim,
pulled my hair up and never
Really tasted the salt that foamed
After the crash.

I've ran in the sand,
Sure, but never have I
Ever let it smooth my
Skin into what it could be.

Before today, I've never
Let the current take me
Under and feel what it's like
To always come back to something.

I wrote a poem when I died...
Another at my birth.
A brand-new sonnet when I cried.
And again when there was mirth.

A song for my confession...
A story for my pain...
A painting for depression...
And nursery rhymes for rain.

My creations live inside my heart.
I keep them there in shame.
Yet you looked around and saw my art,
And smiled all the same.

the thud, thud, thudding of an empty heart
against a bitter soul
longing, yearning, surviving,
only for control.

the tap, tap, tapping of salted words
raining from the sky
"don't go! it's too dangerous"
if only she knew why

the break, break, breaking of a withered tree
against the storm it pushs
slowly now it crumbles
from tall oak to mere bush

the thud, thud, thudding of a broken heart
within its pitch black hole
longing, yearning, surviving
only for his soul.

a burdened back to help her sow
a place of glee and rest
an outstretched hand to bear the load
of hatred and contempt

a longing for the starry night
a yearning for the sea
content with all the dark and fright
but a need, only for she

the ripple of her golden hair
the ringing of her glee
a need awakens, a want for her,
his pure depravity

she knows not why he chose to stay
she knows not of her fate
to soothe his screams, to save her heart
to dissipate his hate

long now they have lived as one
long now the darkness left
long now the tale of two is sung
the moon and his sun.
