Her

Her
The night hours had left me with
exhaustion in my bones, under my eyes.
Sleep had taunted me, dancing just out of reach.
Twirling  inches from my soul,
torturing me with something I couldn't have.

The morning had left me freezing.
My lips blue and my face flushed.
My fingers trembling and my blood freezing.
My joints popped when I entered the warm space,
body heat wrapping around me in a warm embrace.

The afternoon had gifted me something
wonderful.
Something alive and breathing,
with eyes that kept flicking over to me.
With gentle curls underneath a stocking cap.

The afternoon had gifted me with a woman
that refused to let my eyes go.
That refused to let my heartbeat slow.
Her
That's what my brain seemed to scream,
that's what the cold air slipping through
the cracks seemed to whisper,
that's what my trembling lips
begged to speak.

Pink
Katie May Jun 2015
Her lips were pink.
Soft and sweet against my own
when she chose to give me a taste
of her affection.

Her cheeks were pink.
Always tinted with that color.
I never found out if it was from the
cold, or makeup, or simply because
she was with me.
