The night came
A day late
I told my calender
I wanted to date her

It was all
It was too

It was all too late
              To change

I told her I wanted the day
That lasts forever

The night came
           A day late
They say better late
                 Than never

But It was all
       It was too

It was all too late

I told my calender
I'm missing the days
I wanted more
Yet they kept slippin' away

I kept searching for the one that would stay

But my night came
           A day too late
raised by wolves
fed carrion
drank the blood
of a fellow Samaritan
tainted
is what they called her
unacquainted
who would follow her
to herself she stayed
by herself she played
line after line
she scratched
thought after thought
got hatched
crazy ones
lazy ones
ones blood red
ones stud lead
they say child
gone lost her head

Gratitude, grace, a sense of peace
The things I feel within
The daily 'practice' of living inside this space
Brings more than mere words could express.

Remaining as the detached observer
(But participating still within the 'play')
Allows a gap just wide enough to see
What is real and what is not - but all is okay.

Well
Romantic poetry that is
Because I write about detailed experiences
I’ve never truly experienced
But imagined in my head

Because I’m done submerging myself
In the utopia of a perfect love
Between two hopeful romantics
Finally coming together

Because I’m done
Falling in love with the idea of love
Before I even get the opportunity
To fall in love

Because I wanna stop wrapping myself
Isolating myself
By temporarily living in the fictional world
That lies between the words
Of pages of books
In the aisles of abandoned public libraries
Where true love conquers all
Where life’s responsibilities blur
Fading in the background
While romance is magnified
To an unreachable level
That I desire to reach

But my question remains

To every poet
that turned misery to beauty
reality to fantasy
life into poetry
love into mystery
words into sorcery

To every poet whose
word on paper
is an invitation
to play with fire
