What for you need a pen that writes black?
The man at the counter shot back
What has the blue done to offend you?

Look up the firmament
Over there the kingfisher
Once I had been to the sea
She was blue
Surely you prefer over black
A blue saree for her
So many men have staked their life
For the blue eyes of women

And then as if volleying the winning goal

Why not color all your wishes with blue
To paint the world blue-wish?

As I turned to walk away
My eyes caught the writing on his wall..

Black ink for the black heart
For the fool and the dull
Blue for the man of art
With matter in the skull

I had come to the wrong shop.

Confusion reigns
Inside my brain
To much strain
Thoughts that stain
My consciousness wanes

Lights out
No murmur, no shout

My body remains
So the floor gains
My motionless carcass it retains
My mind is drained
Consciousnessis restrained

Lights out
Another bout

Eye's flutter open
Everything still floating
Reality rewoven
Body regaining motion
Soft words spoken

Lights out
Worry sprouts

Eye's full of fear
You found me here
Holding me near
My vision becoming clear
On your cheek a single tear

No time to duck or shout
Life's technical knock out

Let me take you to the dark side of the woods
All that dies here is the good
Let me show you that spot
This is where I fought
He had me tied, I could go no where
I was terrified and scared
He did his deed
And left my soul forever to bleed
It will always seep with rage and anguish
Part of me will always remain and languish
There in the dark side of woods
That day all that died in me was the good

The young receptionist
suddenly crossed her legs
behind the window
of the waiting room of my love,
smacked her gum
and said promise not to leave,
always come back if you do,
even if we give you bad news
for the rest of your life.

Spots on my skin
I'm decaying from within
My blood has gone sour
Every ***** it devours
Including my eyes
One day soon they will no longer see, just cry
Watching constantly what I eat
My bloods to sweet
The darkness in my head also does what it please
Living with more than one chronic disease
Can bring any person to their knees

I can’t help but mourn the frogs, flattened
like Wile E. Coyote after the inevitable boulder
plummets from a great height, leaving him
mashed on the pavement while the Roadrunner
speeds off -  vroom, vroom, beep, beep.

I try to steer around them, but they blanket
the road in biblical numbers during the rain
and it’s like some impossible video game
weaving through masses of randomly hopping life
a certain amount of death is unavoidable.

When I walk the road I can’t stop
counting one, two, five, ten, twenty
cartoon-flat bodies littering the pavement
where I extinguished their glittering
copper and golden-green existence.

Last night, on the panes of every lit window
frogs of all sizes and colors gathered
outside, they covered doors, watering cans
even lined up single file on the coiled garden hose
like they were climbing the ladder to frog heaven.

Through the glass, I admired their rhythmic
throats and soft, creamy, underbellies
one, two, five, ten, twenty
fragile creatures seeking warmth
in the hastening darkness.

Oh Dear sweet vengeful God
Over this rocky earth I have trod
Please take me from this land of Nod

My body's old and I'm bone weary
This life you gave me was so dark and dreary
The depravity of man has left me teary

The dark deeds of man is all you've shown
Sorrow is all I've ever known
Please Dear God, just take me home
The Land of Nod is where Cain was exiled to after he killed Abel
