Trying to capture and articulate
To produce ink on a page
Where
chemical solutions form words
That burn inside our mouths

There's not a doubt in my mind that she has my heart
I see it
Every time I look into her eyes.

my legs shake,
as you create an
earth quake
inside of me
that'll leave me quivering
for days.

Death
Hayleigh Mar 2015
Fear not that you shall lose me
I have not gone,
I shall not leave.
I am the breath of fresh air
Every single time you breathe,
I am sitting right beside you
In the darkest hours that you grieve,
When you feel most alone,
I am there, you must believe.
A small section of the poem I wrote for my grandfathers funeral.

So fast we can't get a grasp on
Pretty pills
As we stare out
Of barred windowsills

You are more than those drunken words
That fall out of your mouth
Every time you stumble through the door
And promise this is the last time

The sun dances across her skin
As though it knows what it has always
Shone far
I swear someone stole the brightest stars out of the sky
And planted them into the pupils of her eyes.
I see them twinkle, every time they catch mine.
She could destroy an entire city, and still look beautiful doing it.
She has taught my heart a rhythm it cannot live without.

You are enough.
Hayleigh Feb 2015
Take the word enough and graffiti it across the walls of your heart
Stamp it under your eyelids
Make a short sharp scratch in your skin
And send it shooting through
Your veins
Weave it in and out of every doubt
Scrawl it in a letter
And send it first class
To all of your insecurities
Embed it in the curves of your smile
Carry it gently in your tears
And catch its salty taste on your tongue

Take it out to the shore
And dip it in the ocean
Watch as, finally, it sticks to you,
Like wet sand.

All that I can give
Hayleigh Feb 2015
For you,

If you let me,
I shall love you so entirely,
so completely
That you shall never need from me
Nothing that I cannot
Provide
There shall be nothing you cannot tell me
Whisper or confide,
Nothing that you feel,
Shall you ever have to hide
Because if you allow me
I shall kiss away each insecurity
From each chain
I shall break you free
Every darkness you encounter
I'll blaze in flames
So brightly
That there's never
A second, you cannot see
Every hurdle you come across
Across each, I shall willingly
Carry, you.
If you let me,
Everything that I do,
Every moment that I live
Myself, my heart, my soul,
My life,
To you I shall give.

Slips between your lips

Home
Hayleigh Feb 2015
Home isn't man made walls,
It is
Two beautiful eyes
Gazing into mine
Across the room
The soft touch of your lips
As we silently kiss
At four in the morning
And drift back to sleep
Tangled up
In one another.
It is your fingers laced
Through mine
As the promise of forever
Lies peacefully
In our clasped palms.
Our loving arms.

Home is
The gentle beat
Of your heart.

You are enough
Hayleigh Feb 2015
I'll bring you face to face with the mirror
That your insecurities have spent years cracking, shattering
And I'll brush the shards of glass aside,
Remove the splinters from your eyes
In a way that finally shows you
You are beautiful,
You are loved,
You are enough.

We defy physics
Hayleigh Jan 2015
Every day
We fall further in love with
One another
We defy
The laws of physics
Some more.
Hayleigh Jan 2015
When you crash into the depths of hell
It's only natural that
You scream, you cry, you hurt,
You burn.

And it's only natural
That it takes you awhile
To get used to the flames licking
Around your feet,
As you finally admit defeat.
It's only natural
That it take you a while,
To learn how to smile,
As you burn around the edges
And sometimes your very core.
It's only natural
That you cannot walk before you crawl
And that you cannot fly
Unless you risk the fall
Risk it all.

It's only natural that
As much as it scolds, eventually
You'll learn how to handle the heat
That you'll adjust and trust
Eventually you'll get used to the pain
And learn how to sustain and attain
Normality again,
As you take one step and then another
As you learn to
Place one foot in front of the other
Walking with the scars
You thought would never heal.
It's only natural, to hurt, to feel,
That's what makes us human,
What makes us real.

Arms wide open
Hayleigh Jan 2015
In the depths of darkness
Her love shines through.

And when I am cold, my hopes and dreams frozen
She builds small fires in my soul.

I know if I was falling,
From unthinkable heights
That she would be there
With rope and open arms
Building a safety net
Below.
I know because
She does
Every single time.

There are days that
I feel certain that there is no one
In the world who gets me
And then she captures me
And everything I am
In the tone of her voice,
The strands of her hair,
The pupils of her eyes,
Her soft touch,
Her warm embrace.

She is right there
Cheering me on.

The world is unaware that the
Definition of compassion, loyalty,
Patience, understanding
Unconditional love, eternal beauty
Is her.

I love her more than
A tangled mesh of nouns, adverbs,
Letters crammed in spaces could ever articulate.

I owe her
So when she sees darkness
I shall show her light
When she feels cold and her
Hopes and dreams become a little frosty
I will be there with my matches
Ready to thaw them
I will be there with rope and nets
And my arms as wide as they could ever open.

I shall endeavour to never let her fall
But if ever she slips between my fingers
I shall catch her
Softly, safely, securely.

She is everything
And I will never let her
Doubt or forget
It
Anything she needs
I shall strive to provide
It is entrenched deep within my heart
To ensure
She never wants for more.

Hayleigh Jan 2015
Emptiness
Tucked inside
The gaping holes of
your shattered
Rib cage,

Each broken piece of you
Into their old tshirt
In the hope that it can hold
You together.

Time well spent
Hayleigh Jan 2015
Time
always goes
too fast when I am
with you
and too slow
when I am not.
It's as if, time, let slip,
dis-remembered, or forgot,
That the real present
is living in the presence
with you.

It's as if, time was late,
in it's ability to understand
and appreciate,
to capitulate,
the unendurable
fate, of having to wait,
for my fingers to lock through
yours.

It's as though time does not understand
Nor comprehend,
that for each moment it loses,
our life nears an end
and each moment
that I spend, without you,
is a memory formed, and
cremated, too,

For each moment that I have spent
with my lips pressed against your lips,
exchanging conversations,
as laughter stumbles and slips,
as together we build,
our home, a future, out of this,
requires more,
seconds, minutes, hours,
than
any clock could give.

Hayleigh Jan 2015
Your lucid and translucent skin stretches itself tightly
across your old, cold protruding bones,
and you, you've spent years, building up
and tearing down homes
in others hearts, promising fresh starts
you've spent decades, practising and perfecting the arts
of saying what people want to hear,
grasping hands with fear
appearing sincere
but what you forgot to realise
is that the constant lies,
can only result in
the demise caused by
you
drowning in your cries
Hayleigh Jan 2015
I refuse to follow a trail
Where others,
carelessly crush
their individuality firmly
into the ground,
willingly hush their hopes and dreams
so they no longer make a sound,
bury them so deep,
they no longer can be found

You do as you please
but darling
listen to my hopes
bellowing below the seas
listen to my dreams
echoing in the breeze
because me?
i'll be blazing a trail so bright
it'll dull the suns light and
bring the trees to their knees.

Presents in the presence
Hayleigh Jan 2015
You wrapped up and disguised
lies
in tight green ribbons
like presents
and it was only in the moments
that you tripped on them in the presence
that you actually realised
