FIRE

There is a fire within each one of us,
It is greater than the sun,
It is in our bones,
It is within the intricate pattern of our lungs.

If you let us then;
This very fire within us,
Will let us touch,
It will let us feel,
It will let us love,
It will make us heal.

If you let us then;
This very fire within us,
Will give us freedom,
It will make us escape from the boundaries,
Of this earthly kingdom.

Give us a chance,
We can try,
'cause there is a fire within each one of us,
That you cannot deny.

What difference does it make?
I'm already condemned.
There isn't a person in
this God-forsaken town
that hasn't tried me in
their mind and found me guilty.
Step mothers aren't real
mothers anyway.
My mother died when I was little.
Daddy remarried and couldn't have
cared less about me and Emma,
my dear sister, and the ax sharpener.
I was acquitted, and who can
judge me now?
By the way, the weapon was never
found, it's buried by my feeble
attempt at poetry.

in yesterdays limelight was you
autumn glow sifts through your hair,
the golden sands we surfed

gentle cheeks brushed red
behind rose lenses, smile lines
that fleeting, naive azure

todays fluorescents, headache white
midnight eyes, sunk and hollowed
your lilac touch uncured
