The world can get so dark.
And then a stranger tells you
you’re beautiful,
and you realize
they meant it.

And for a brief moment,
I actually felt a part of this world.

The rain desires nothing but begins nonetheless.
One drop falls, alone at first, followed
by another and another, until
the neighborhood windows weep.

Across the street, her husband turns
his palm to the sky, steps into the storm.
His black umbrella blinks awake,
like the hole he creeps through
when his wife is sleeping, when
the window is open and the sidewalk is dry.

It can’t be helped.

It desires nothing,
but the rain, with
a million hands,
ravages everything.

I tried once to love the moon
but he was pale with grief and his tangled grin, silent to the fireflies in my lungs.
I longed to plaster galaxies along the canvas of my flesh.
once starved by a myth,
where is the purpose?
what have i not found?

Mya
Shes deadly and sharp
Yet loving and careful
Like nothing I've ever seen before
Or dreamed before
Because shes not like the books I read
Or the poems I write
Shes a force all her own
And I pray to god
I never see the day
Her heart breaks
