i look for you in my arms
raised lines where i marked time's passage in shame
only bumps now
only scars
i look for you there and find no one
nothing

i look for you in the things you left in my room
a necklace
a pin
hard cold things that collect dust but not your scent
yours but forgotten

i look for you down the street
a parking lot
a place
empty now but for ash and debris

i lay here

my bed empty where it once held you
my heart empty where it once held you
my smile empty where it once held you
in theory
warmth on a warm day
shouldn't be what i want

but locked into you
holding on for dear life
while my toes barely
touch the floor
sweat is sweet

i hold the heat
my hands damp
my eyes wide for lack of light

if you are summer
melt the ice that lingers on my riverbed
guide the snowmelt down between my banks
i don't want to be cold anymore
he's a
bad surgeon

tying off healthy veins and vessels,
maybe the case in his holy head--
giving the madness to his eyes
giving the blindness to his mind

he says he's wrong and right
but it's all off,
he's a bad person.

and an even worse surgeon.

but the blood on his hands makes him feel professional
he is an accomplished doctor
he has studied this
for many years

but the organs he touches falter and fail
the irony being
he birthed Dr. Semmelweis
It's kind of
Hard
To get over
Someone
Like
You.

You're
A piece of
Every sunrise
To me

And it's not
Just
what I learned

It's also...

The nectar
Of your smile
The sharpness
Of your stature
And the adventuresome spirit
With which
You've graced
The world.
I saw the wonder years tonight, and remember? you showed me the front bottoms

I remember in the fantasy, whenever I breathed.
I looked upon you, and you did not need to.
I can't believe that I believed I achieved such a bliss.
A diseased memory, that I can't seem to reminisce.
For you are not her, how could I be so blind?
You are just her shadow that's casted along behind.
I find you in my mind, confined to the perfect moments.
Unbind to your design, reminding me you're an omen.
I see you now,
Shadow Woman.
a little funny story lol,
i wrote this a year ago in high school, it was part of my creative writing project. i had to create a 25-page poem portfolio so i decided to tell a story throughout the poems, all of them were connected. the whole collection was about a girl who the narrator (me) had a crush on. he never talked to her, instead he created a version of her within his mind and created fantasies where they were in love. this poem is one of my favorites because it’s his realization that he’s been fooling himself with this fictional girl based on real emotions. i just wrote “sky woman” (based on my girlfriend) without even thinking about “shadow woman” and it’s just funny how she became real.

Floating in the air above me:
that's where sleep goes on a sleepless night.
Taunts me like a black desire.
Everything is such a fight
