Words are uncatchable, fleeting
Soft and sharp
To heal your wounds and break your heart
They can be smoothed and polished to perfection
Or sharpened to create a deadly perforation
Make them shimmer and glitter like sparks of light
Or cast a gloom of perpetual night
Weave them, hold them, string them up
Taint them, paint them, but never use them up
They can be cold and cruel and hard and dark
And kind and warm and bind our hearts
They're twistable, kissable, catchings of glee
Embrodiery in the mighty world tree
Enhancements which dull the melancholy humm
Of work and stress and all things dumb
I'll use them, abuse them, fill them with me
Pay people with words and words with seas
Of amazing knowledge and words of grandeur
They'll always be rich and never be poor
Words are my forte, my intricate strength
But for you, I have no words left.
A third and final old poem I wrote a while back :)
Ilima Ueoka Nov 2024
Words are all we have he said
I say words are traps
Snares set by the wicked
Soothe the trembling soul
Program little children to be robots till they’re old

Twistable tricky words
Easily misunderstood

Words alone mean nothing
Words alone don’t fill
Words are all we have he said
Words elude me still

My dog she doesn’t speak
She grunts and whines and paws
Loyal, true and sweet to me
Just had to learn her walk

My dad he never spoke too much
Except to lecture, legs went numb
Critical words, tough love
Self projections just like this
I am an *******
I am selfish
I am a sly dog

Dogs are good i thought
Why does this feel wrong
Why am i these things i say
Why, im just a kid

Program little children words
Broken little people words
Daggers to your lover words
Soothing from your mother words

My mother said so much
Often on a whim
Unintentional little fibs
Fly off the handle digs
Cross words
Off words
Blame words
Why is this my fault i thought
I’m good, im just a kid

My lover said he loved me so
All he had were words
Robot me took them as lies
How could my mind accept just words
My lover fought me till he was bruised and bloodied too
He showed me words were true
You are beauty you are good
You are mine and you are loved
Until we’re old and die

Confusing lucky words
Hopeful mighty words

Words alone mean nothing
Words and actions fill
Words are all we have he said
I say learn to walk as well
