 Sep 2014 Nevermore
Ryan Jakes
This used to be my home, my safe place but now every room has an echo of you, though you have never lived inside it's walls.

This used to be my mind, it was filled with crashing surf and Beach Boys medleys. Now it's filled with how you looked when my kiss broke your precious trust.

This used to be my heart, only ever used once, I thought it could only beat for her, then it met you, fragile and broken, filled with a delicate strength, masked by the laugh of a devil.

You used to be my friend. You'd fill my days with words, my nights with laughter, my heart with hope and though you're still here, I know that to me you are gone.

I ****** up, I know this now. There is no explanation I can give, no rewind button, so I'll crawl on my knees and hope that one day you'll forgive me instead of forget me.

I will write a million apologies.
Because I can't stand these days without your smile.

Love is the title
of my favorite chapter
of you

WickedHope
I wake up
To your arms around me
You're wide awake
You tell me
"I watched you dreaming."
Your eyes
Are what I dreamt of
Looking into them now
I can say dreams do come true
Reality?

Long may you run
my daughter,
my son.

Long may you dance
to the songs
of
many suns.
Long may you feel
my love
after I am un done.

Long may you
head into the light
may your heart
open
with each breath,
as night comes again.

May you
have
someone by your side
for
the long ride
to
climb inside
and
find the peace of home
for a long long time.

May your eyes
continue to shine
find
the blessing in each sorrow
at
the end of the line.

Long may you run
my daughter,
my son.

Long may youth
burn so bright
inside
Despite the cards dealt
the obstacles felt
the ties that bind
the ribbons of time.

Long may you run
my daughter,
my son.

Long may you laugh
let friendships hold you
creativity flourish
in
brilliant flashes

May your heart
stay true
to do what you need to do

Long may you run
my daughter,
my son.

Though
time and distance
may separate us
across the continents
across the oceans
where ever we may find ourselves
I
send this birthday wish
to you
long may you run
my daughter,
my son.
Neil Young, obviously, Long May You Run,  different context,  different meaning, but fit the feeling and the idea exactly. Credit where credit is due for the phrase.
No one can compete with Bob Dylan's Forever Young and not meant as an imitation
words to my children on a birthday.
For all our sons and daughters.

I
actually feel sorry for him
my
extension
my
avatar

I
wake him
every morning
no matter how sleepy he is
get him out of bed before sunrise
while I hide
deep inside.

He arises
to reply
respond
put out
and
deny.

A hook through the nose
to
catch the bucks
and
cast him out into that
old main stream
where he does his perfect avatar thing
he dances jigs
he placates
he sings
he says please and thank you
can I get you anything
the fingers
waving
at
him
no longer mean a thing.

A master of the palms up
he
can
always say
"who? Not me."

And
when his day is done
I
reel him in
remove
what ever little bucks
he
caught

Sit him down
in
front of the t.v.
gin and juice
and
dancing images too.

Give him a sleeping pill
so he sleeps so sound
no dreams
to
disturb
his life
and routine
a
brown nosed role
in
the
consumer machine.

I
slip
him
into bed
and
sometimes in the late night
I
hear
him weeping.

In
the morning
I
get him up
to
do
the same **** thing .
Thanks to the singer-song writer Todd Snider for the phrase "fishing in that old main stream"
