in the space between my ears
only thoughts of you orbit
black holes consume my pupils
when I gaze upon
the constellation of your smile

i used to remember your laugh like it was yesterday
so visceral and clear
it hurt so much to know what I had lost

now your laugh is a memory of a memory
distorting the harder I try to recall
shouldn’t it hurt less—
to forget what I once held dear?

the suffocating sorrow of a clear memory
and
the desperate grasping at the light i thought would never fade

only a laugh so lovely, could cause this kind of pain

my eyelids adorned with lead lashes
they sink into the depths unknown
helpless against sleeps ceaseless current
i am swept into its abyss
where darkness swallows all

darkness wears two faces
one is void and empty
cold and harsh
leaving nothing
but you and your loneliness
the other is warm and permeates
it engulfs you entirely
cradling you in its arms
lulling you to sleep
humming its tender silence

an unquenchable thirst
an insatiable hunger
an airless breath
love, without you

Flames lick my feet
as my flesh peels away
Shards of glass glisten with blood
But nothing is more painful
Than this ground of eggshells I walk
