dune
JW Aug 15
A gray dune,
  The memory of us,
Is thinned to air
  As she breathes the dust

Then releases ashes
When she’s had enough

Contemporary Zealots
JW Nov 2020
Contemporary zealots
**** like rabbits
Curse like sailors and
Lie as the dead do

Painting religious portraits
With fake acrylic
Brewed and tailored and
Sold as a slim truth.

They use a deadened pallet -
Loss of Good habit,
Loss of God’s favor, and
Loss of the Good hue.

The River
JW Nov 2020
Weighed into a deep, hurling river

The water is not blue, but gray.
The sky is not that of fair day.

It feels sullen.
Backdrop of apathy.

The drowning does not matter,
It only matters that it hurts.

It pulses, strains on your skull
Until you sink
Into what you are convinced
Is a peaceful lull.

Close Call
JW Oct 2020
So **** close to dance
And noise making
With accents that could not
Be mistaken

I’d have let her wild
And matched her cause,
But she never wrote me
And left that dream loss

So I’ll sing to my own
And drink to my shadow,
While she dances alone
Til her night grows death idle

Moonless Night
JW Oct 2020
Where is my moon?
Where do you escape?

See, as I feign slumber
I feel you slip away

I feel you
Sharing your Moonlight
With another night

Reflecting another sun’s light
Upon another Earth
Weaving their seas
With your weight
Into a calm

And I watch
As you silently creep back to me
Promising a new moon

But, your light
It still feels the same.

Naked Trees
JW Oct 2020
Nestled in silence,
The trees carry no burdens
I want to feel that
