The poet lives two lives.
One on the outside,
And one in their mind.

When you look in their eyes
You could see an abyss.

If you looked long enough
You could sink into it.

But most people don’t see it.

Take the time to read the words, though,
And you would know for sure.

The poet lives in two different worlds.
A little escape from the madness.
Or maybe, into.

Do not stand at my grave and weep..
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awake in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star-shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry..
I am not there. I did not die.

She finally broke
With sobbing tears of youth
The lesson learned
Never tell the truth

In a desperate display of despair
Her development arrested there...
That part of her regressed to child
She forgets about life for a while.

She cuts her body
in order to
Hide emotional pain
Invisible now
those issues that remain

She's the one
with heart undone
Emotionally blind
and on the run
Pretending to be unaware
And so I bear her worry
Because I care...

You said in sickness and in health
but lately the latter has been slipping.
My "shining star" within is now a dark star,
leaving destruction in its path,
invisible to the naked eye.

There is a weight on my shoulders
that looks like pebbles to you,
yet it feels like a monster to me.

It pushes down as you drag it around
yet no one else can see the struggle.
Woven together by flaw after flaw,
is this why this monster has latched on to me?
The daily struggle goes on.

Yet when doctors say they can make the monster go away
I hold onto it, squeezing it tight,
as it's the only thing I know.

*As it's what you know best that you're most comfortable with.
Good or bad.

I wish I could’ve written down every word you’ve ever said to me

So that when I’m drowning in my mind

Your voice covering my ears

I will remember what it feels like to be loved by you.

I wish I could keep your warmth in a blanket

For the nights like this when the stars don’t burn as brightly as they should

And the moon hides behind the clouds

And I want nothing more than to be tangled up, wrapped up in you.

I want to put your laugh to music and

Let that song be stuck in my head all day just so I can think about your smile.

Just ten minutes after I'd revved the engine
I was only nine miles away from the love of my life
Day dreaming of when we’d met just eight short months ago
Soaring at seventy down that country road
Only six more miles until she’d be in my arms again
Five years ago thoughts of love would have seemed so far out of sight
Yet four times I've already proposed, “too soon,” she’d always say
Amazing how in three seconds your entire life can change
With just two tires there’s little room for error
When one blew out I hit the asphalt, hard
In a wreck like that there’s zero chance I’d survive
One hour later the ambulance arrived at last
EMTs pressed two paddles against my chest
Shocks were delivered three times
At the hospital doctors performed four operations
Five months I spent in a coma
Followed by six months of physical therapy relearning to walk
In time all seventeen broken bones had set and healed
It cost me eight grand to buy a new bike
Now nine years later I’m still riding, fearless, wife on the back
The tenth time I asked, she finally said yes

I once cared for you

And loved

And gave

As love gives

All that I had

And you gave in return

Your cold smile

And empty words

That promised nothing

But love

And now you have become

Nothing

But a bitter memory

I feel like I'm running in circles.
Never getting to my destination.
I pack my bags,
Pay for the ticket.
But end up at the same train station.

It's an ongoing battle.
That I see so many win.
So I gather my weapons,
Put on my armor.
But your end is where I begin.

I want to say it's easy.
But I don't know know that yet.
I try so very hard.
Just to start all over,
Well who woulden't be upset?

But I have to keep going.
I have to make it through.
So I'll keep running,
I'll keep fighting.
At least I'm trying, unlike you.
