From mud walled homes
these remnants come, artifacts of shell and bone
leather shoes and deerskin coats
woolen blankets and woven rugs,
baskets for storing grain and corn.

Grinding stones and sun bleached bones
antiquities and memories found in fields of sand,
necklace beads of finest hammered silver
now forgotten and lost, and too the river's water.

Came a sorrowful war with bullet guns
that pierced the heart of every man
no match for shooting arrows.

Falling into you I found myself
For with you I was never lost
Blinded by an unkind past
The present, tinged with shame
Became my only truth
Then... I saw you

You gazed upon me
Open and trusting
And I could no longer hide from myself
Your eyes peel me naked
And I stand bare before you
awaiting a judgment that will never come

You see what I thought I lost
What felt like it died long ago
You see who I used to be
Who I always have been
And because it's you
I believe it's true

Your smile is my hope
Your heart carries my heartbeat
Your eyes, so full of love
Prove that I am all I ever wished to be
All I was supposed to be
Before life beat the joy out of me

You found me and I knew
I knew you were mine
I knew you before I met you
I dreamed you alive so long ago,
And here in my heart, I fell in love
In your love, in loving you...

I can learn to love me

it can be surprising to learn that the person you cannot stand is loved just as much as yourself

I am from the planets spinning
I am from the dust of stars
I am from moon’s glow on ocean
I am from both near and far

I am from the hazy morning
I am from clear mid-day
I am from the purple evening
I am from where darkness lays

I am from the East and West
I am from the North and South
I am from the core of earth
I am from the inside out

I am from the foam of oceans
I am from the breath of skies
I am from raindrops falling
I am from the glaciers’ ice

I am from the winding rivers
I am from the sea
I am from lakes and inlets
I am from water, carry it in me

I am from places known
I am from life’s mysteries
I am from the edge of nowhere
I am
      you are
            we are
                   all of these

There was a young man named Cesar
Who presented a challenging teaser
He said cheer me up
Filling my cup
Don’t be an underachiever.

There’s a judgmental squirrel awaiting
For something truly amazing
Make something pretty
write something witty
Show him that you are creating.

There he sits looking proud in his tree
uttering you’d better please me
I don’t like disappointment
Or casual mistreatment
This is my official decree.

All the people jumped quickly to act
Cesar’s tough challenge was attacked
The judge was appeased
Members no longer were teased
The squirrel judge was totally shocked
Prompted by the fact that awhile back a fella named Cesar posted on FB a picture of a squirrel which had printed on it: "The Squirrel of Judgment wonders why you're not creating art. Do not disappoint the Squirrel of Judgment." I wish I could post the picture!

Some drive big cars,
Brag of deep scars
To prove they have big ******;
Some grow goatees,
Axe down huge trees,
Or chew on edible *******.
Real men, I've heard, eat Wheaties,
Enjoy lap dance stripteases,
Build towers with their empties,
The bravado is relentless.

Kim Jong Un,
Thinks his long
In his munchkin hands.
He does private battle
With his androgynous name;
While playing with lead soldiers;
Unsheathing a stainless sabre,
Lighting up his candles,
To show he's macho manly.
And I know androgynous names, like Francie.
