Moonsong.
Keith Trim Jul 2010
Selene casts her silver cape across the sky and gazes coldly
as bats exchange their hanging world for dance,
flashing over the sable sky in half-seen streaks.
Lights rash across the land and man's fear of darkness breaks the night
with candle, lamp and fluorescence.

What dimly remembered horrors stalked the hours
and drove us fearful and small into the firelight's globe?
What beasts, what demons stood beyond the reach of sight
and kept us huddled, staring back until the dawn?

Selene passes on and weeps for her wasted beauty,
her cape faded and shrunken in the waxing day.
Saving her perfect desire in starry softness,
she prepares herself with eager hope and prays
there will be someone who steps outside the light
and, looking up, remembers how to love the night.
Sweetly saying sounds so soft
She sings so secretly simple songs
Soothing silence's savage sting
Shattering suspicions
Swallowing shadows
Severing stillness
So softly
So slowly
She serenades scared souls still sleeping so sound
Sunlight shall shine
Soon so soon
Splashing so swiftly
Submerging still slumber
So sleep
Sweet souls
Sleep softly, sleep safe
Sunlight shall shine
Soon
So soon.

Moonsong

A poem by

Jude Kyrie

*The perfume of forever
Is sweet in the night air.
This night and I will be
friends before it fades.
We will know each other’s Secrets
before the intrusion of breaking day.
I stand drinking
the heady nectar of heaven
Intoxicated by the soft velvet night.
But sobered by the candled moonlight
And the night jasmine
singing gentle lullaby’s  in its beams.
Tomorrow can bring sleep
For tonight I cling like ivy to the wall
To drain the last sweetness of the night.
The Flipped Word Oct 2015
The moon, it sings to me every night
It calls to me, I'm the only one
Who is lonely enough to hear it's plight
A sad ballad, piano keys and blues
With a liquid feel
I almost feel like I'm floating
Up up and away
And it is in such loneliness
Where I don't feel so alone

Will they find me asleep alongside you,
when the dawns are crisp in moonsong?

The stars are pulling at my hair again,
pleading that I should visit Neverland one more time.

"Come on!   He's coming for us Kira!  We have to run!"
"Who's coming for us?!"
"Captain Hook, you idiot!"
"Jack---"
"--It's Peter!"
"But it's 8:00 at night I can't just---"
"Hop out your window, Wendy!  I'll catch you!"

Can't promise I'll come home.
I never have.

If I'd be counting lunar shadows,
I wouldn't miss yours for the world.

Dreaming in sync to a glass of whine,
Fill my bowl ****** and blame it on a silver bullet.

"What's wrong Jack?"
"This place...it's...scary..."
"Oh come on!  You're always wanting an adventure, so let's keep going!"
"I'm serious----"
...........
"Jack?  What is it?"
"Run."
"But---"
"Kira we have to run!"

It was an odd serenity,
watching your body embrace gravity and charred stone.

You tainted the river redder than any sunset
could've, your bloodstream spilled the contents of your life onto the forest floor.
●    ●    ●    ●

"RUN AND DON'T LOOK BACK!"
"BUT JACK---"
"I PROMISE YOU'LL BE OKAY!  JUST KEEP RUNNING!"

Oh, you'd be sixteen by now,
Peter Pan.  (Jack Addison.)

And I'd never have grown up.*

You were seven when you died.
It should've been me.
I know how you loved the story of Peter Pan.
But it was ironic how you never grew up.
When I can't sleep, I'll visit you when I'm lonely.
I'll sit under that tree.
Maybe one day I'll fall asleep and wake up beside you,
when the dawn meets the sky you can take me home.
Promise?

Ehh, I didn't try my hardest on this one.
I wrote it while I cried.
Guess I'll never learn, huh?

Afterpleasures,
Condemned bits of divinity
Call me to breathe again
Slowly Walk
Through
man-eater buildings
if it suits the taste
Come over, bring an ecstatic Tuesday,
More wind and an exception to beauty's calls

You know me as the pretty mistake of two.
Moonsong of a million.
You will doe-eyedly
End me for a night's sleep.

Do you get lonely up there,
Hanging in the dark sky
All by yourself in eternal night
Perhaps you hear us
Our music and cannons
Screams and sweet whispers
Our constant breath keeping company
Though you've seen many beyond us
We're the newest toy
Hopefully we don't break too soon

Is it lonely up there or are you too close
Perhaps you're a prisoner
Tied to us
Always trying to break free
From a deadly grasp
Burning the night with your light
A cold silent scream of your distress

The maiden gets undressed
Sheathed in skin
Dedicated to you
In sin
Silver bow crossed
For the wolves have come
To run the night
Cruel and beautiful
Your light shines
A watcher and goddess of death and life
You've seen us from morning till night

I walk alone
Invisible to all
But I'm still here
My only comfort?
The glowing moon
Lonely and distant
Just like me
Surrounded by stars
That she could never, ever be
Winter's storm beating
Browns to grays, hammer
Snows, heavy flakes
As big as fists, fall
Like rain on tin

Winds howl, wolves on the horizon
Singing a moonsong, love sung
Through strong jaws, long fangs
Made for tearing flesh,
And death

Eerily, they pierce the night
Through even the wind
Buffeting the house
Making it creak, bend
To the forces of nature

The hearth fire blazes
Scents of meat bring the wolves
Circling the house, desire
Keeping the dark at bay
A candle the only light

Around the home, wood retreat
Log cabin, built by rough hands
Stone chimney, mortared by the same
High, two stories, strong
Not a house, a home

In the winter, he hunts with the wolves
Pays tribute; he lives in their land
They see, understand, the relationship
Keeping distance, but protecting
On coldest nights, they shelter near

The storm, tonight, lasted days
Softening resolve and infecting
The man sits by the door, bolted
He knows what's come in the night
Unnaturally radiating the cold

The wolves stay close
Inside the treeline,
Even the woods now
Harbor the blight
Too close to home

They howl, nip and bite
At each other, restless, on guard
There will be no sleep tonight
All stay awake afraid to drift
One by one, shutters close

A sliding noise, the wolves ears perk
They've heard it before, many times
But it's unexpected, not at night
Not with danger so near
Look to the Alpha

Light creases still falling snow
The door opens, the man, a rifle
That tool of men, never without
A whistle, gestures, at the Alpha
Intelligence shines in bright eyes

The Alpha, hesitates, looks back
In to the wood, that thing; things
Feeling that something is coming
Back at the man, then at the Beta
Tosses it's head, a decision is made

They go in, positioned now
At windows, one by one
Sometimes two per
They spread out
Nervous, can't run here

The door is barred once more
Lights go out, but not the heat
Ice drips, snow melts on the floors
Heavy fur not needed here
At bay, the creatures of night
