I decided to ride the slide sideways

Letting my feet hang over

And one edge guide my neck

I went straight down for a second or two

But with my eyes to sky
I didn't worry

Rather, I just enjoyed the view
Each day
Seems more beautiful
Than the last
As we learn
About who we are
And
Who we are not

The ageing
Of humanity
Reveals truth

I look ahead
To renewal
And the newness
Of each day

We have one body
One life
Destined to slowly fade
Yet full
Of eternal meaning
And legacies
13th April 2016
Suddenly, there was sun.
I wanted to bask in it,
To take it all in.
The rays touched  me,
Talked to me ways
People around couldn't.
I couldn't put on sunscreen,
The way this feels -
Enriching and enlightening -
I would never put a mask
Between it and I.
Step into the water
Cold and still
Wade in my friend
Feel the chill
Cleanse the world
That contaminated you
Your once innocent eyes.. your unbiased views

Step into the water
Pure and deep
Let it remove the memories
That made you weep
Let it soothe his once loving touch
Remove the memories
You cherished so much.

Even beautiful memories need to be forgotten.
I've caught you like the common cold
but I have no interest in getting better
spare me the nyquil
I'll pass on the penicillin
I have no love for codeine
your presence is the most sobering thing I know.
I miss spoke a few seconds ago
there's nothing common about you
you're a rare strain of virus
and I'm patient zero
diagnosis: terminal
infect me,
corrupt me,
do your very worst.
break me down into my component parts
and return me to the earth from which I came.
I have made my peace.
I will rise from that same earth, lazarus of chocolate skin
a little stronger
a little wiser
immunized by your viral love to the horror of the world.
so take me
make & unmake me
I would die a thousand deaths by your hands.
Remembering one
solitary being
is what society
is not seeing.

Drink this wine
and eat this bread
does not stand for
what is dead.

The purpose to be
is what you and me
should honor and treasure
through memory.

But maybe
only the dying
can see
with vision
that looks
eternally.
