By: Cedric McClester

He was the king
And his reign was long
Over seven decades
Still going strong
His queen was Lucile
But now that he’s gone
She’ll be in morning
From now on

The king is dead
Hear what I said
The king is dead
Hear what I said
The king is dead
Long live the blues
The king is dead
Who’ll fill his shoes

Born in the Mississippi delta
But believe you me
No one sung the blues
Quite like B.B.
He was the king
True blues royalty
And we are enriched
By his long legacy

The king is dead
Hear what I said
The king is dead
Hear what I said
The king is dead
Long live the blues
The king is dead
Who’ll fill his shoes

We’re gonna miss him
“Bout that there’s no doubt
Who’ll fill his shoes
We’ll have to figure out
Though it won’t be easy
To have that kind of clout
Do y’all understand
What I’m talking about

The king is dead
Hear what I said
The king is dead
Hear what I said
The king is dead
Long live the blues
The king is dead
Who’ll fill his shoes

He sang so many songs
Like The Thrill Is Gone
How Blue Can You Get
And I could go on
To Know You is To Love You
The list is so long
And we’re thankful to God
That B.B. was born

The king is dead
Hear what I said
The king is dead
Hear what I said
The king is dead
Long live the blues
The king is dead
Who’ll fill his shoes
