Of what and such I must not trust
Your wit, your vim and wry replies
I'll quote old jokes to folks from home
So why should I shed light on ice?
On ice
On ice

With cracks of past my grin would growl
And lips of late lay waste instead
Amiss, amok, a muse of sorts
In short, tis' end for Sir Tristan
Tristan
Tristan

Yet bows be still and peace be kept
For known unknowns toss light and lull
In time or tomb I'll write you soon
And trust you're just and jest as well
As well
As well

Steel chairs
They’re steel chairs
They’re still his
And they’re still yours
They’re a steal
They stole your stillness
And still it’s not theirs
Can you care to sit?
Can you stand to sit?
Can you stare at what sits, instead of steps, and not stop by the stairs?
They fold into
They fell in two
They feel in tune with who would dare
Never to kneel near the silver snare
There, there, they’re all there
Their wooden chairs
the last poem i wrote for creative writing before i dropped out in 2020 , not my best , just like reading it out loud , enjoy

If I wrote to you and not know what to say
Baby, I'm gonna set it all straight
And if I felt a tune and not know what to play
Well, maybe to you I sound the same

I haven’t at all made an attempt to be with you
And you had nothing at all to give, why me, the fool

Well maybe to you, I’m not able to make a change
Out of the blue, here to wash the other colors away
What would I do if the music weren’t made
Down/out of use, you sing to make a trade

I haven’t at all made an attempt to be with you
And you had nothing at all to give, why me, the fool

When I write to you and know just what to say
Sonny, that will be the day
But when I feel that two of us can imitate
Then that’s one of us we can make

What words can work when you’re under pressure? and
What tongue can speak that my mind cannot utter? and
What will I be mute to and what might I mutter?
Don’t you ever wonder? and Don’t you ever think? and
Don’t you ever wish just what could have been?
Or whatever?
But what can I say? Hey, I’ve been better

This Sunday’s got me homesick but yet I’ve been home since last week
You reminded me of myself and of what might come to be
But I cannot judge because he’s just like me, a forgery
Don’t you ever wonder? and Don’t you ever think? and
Don’t you ever wish just what could have been?
Or something other?
But what can I say? Hey, I’ve been better

To see you here in person couldn’t be worse than not at all
I’d love to write a letter but you know no one does that as much, am I wrong?
Wishing we could see each other and wasn’t a young man’s brother, gained or lost
Don’t you ever wonder? and Don’t you ever think? and
Don’t you ever wish just what could have been?
And nothing lesser?
But what can I say? Hey, I’ve been better

Let’s go back to the old days where we could make each other laugh
Older now, but in our twenties, how long was that supposed to last?
Not much to look forward to except for looking up or looking back
Don’t you ever wonder? and Don’t you ever think? and
Don’t you ever wish just what could have been?
Or maybe never?
But what can I say? Hey, I’ve been better

So, stare up at noon with stars up at night
I’ll have the moon, you’ll have the light
I’ll see you soon, and so happens we might
Stare up to you, quiet goodbye

Moonman/Sunman

Moonman made morning
Sunman had it
Moonman saw evening
Sunman hadn’t
Moonman left evening
Sunman hasn’t
Moonman missed morning
Sunman has it

So, stare up at one with clouds out a ways
I’ll have the sun, you’ll have the days
I’ll see you son, and in your stays
Stare up to one, why, it would wave

Moonman/Sunman

Moonman made morning
Sunman had it
Moonman saw evening
Sunman hadn’t
Moonman left evening
Sunman hasn’t
Moonman missed morning
Sunman has it

song from the EP - Apart from Ourselves
Peter Rogers Aug 2020
I play songs that make me happy
I play songs to keep me down
I play songs to keep me laughing
like you’re here
But who’ll hear me laughing out loud?

I had friends I could speak my mind to
I had friends that couldn’t care
I had friends that I did wrong to
in high school
And college, boy was I even there?

We had fun, you and I did
We had fun apart from ourselves
We had fun when we were younger and tighter
together, so why
Did we run from our wealth?

We were silly, inside and outside
We were silly simply for a laugh
We were silly to think you’d get over it
and were silly
To think it would last

You’re still here and so am I, friend
You’re still here only in a different town
You’re still here and time is your friend
let’s end this and
Make amends while we’re still around

You’re afraid, how do you think I feel?
You’re afraid and I’m nervous myself
You’re afraid of the future
and past hurts
We can heal after we forgive ourselves
Oh yes, we can heal after we forgive ourselves
