familiar faces tend to be
the ones we fear the most.

i don't deserve it
Noah Mroueh Oct 2017
there seems to be
a recurring theme in my life
i never appreciate anything
until its gone

i let
people
love
ambitions
slip right through my fingers
then years later
i say to myself
what the ****
why did i let that go
why didn't i realize sooner
when those
people
ambitions
relationships
have already flown far down the stream
into vast oceans
after i let them go

if you think about it
it would be quite silly for someone
who's already covered a great distance on their own
to swim back to save me
i know i don't deserve it
but just know
i appreciate every one of you
that i've lost touch with
for you've taught me
to appreciate
to love
to cherish
every beautiful thing
that enters my life

i know i'll submerge
into these ocean waters eventually
when my legs give out
but as i descend
into the water
ill be thinking of

all of the love
each and every one of you has
given me

all of the concerts
each and every one of you
has played for me

all of the songs
each and every one of you
has shown to me

and
this realization
you've helped me come to

story on the shelf
Noah Mroueh Oct 2017
A good story
May very well be
A plot that concludes
However
I've always thought
The most intriguing
Are the ones
Left unanswered

There is a story
That lies in a notebook
On my shelf
Collecting dust
It's only one paragraph long
An undeveloped idea
But an idea nonetheless

It was co-written
By an undiscovered writer
And my ill-equipped self
We wrote an intriguing paragraph
Until
I was hit with writers block

I moved on
Carelessly
To other works
Long novels
Short stories
But still
Nothing more intriguing
Than our one
Brief
Idea

Most days I regret giving up
When I left behind this unfinished thought

And I still wonder
What the story could have been
If it ever continued
From paragraph one

Who knows
Maybe
It’d be a new story all together

All I know
Is that I will most likely never have an answer
But if that paragraph has taught me one thing
It is to develop ideas
Craft paragraphs
And finish stories
Before you put them on the shelf

open up your eyes
Noah Mroueh Oct 2017
You couldn’t see hope in your lines

Pages would live a hidden life

But those are the distant fields that grow

Strawberries sweeter than I’ve known

How will we choose to live our lives?

I’ll keep up hope, you’ll open up your eyes

Beached beauty waiting for the tide

To bring her to the water where she’ll thrive

But now that she’s swimming, something’s gone

The fruit could only stay sweet for so long

A familiar gaze thats no longer defined

I see it when you open up your eyes

I’ll leave you now but ill be back in time

I’ll keep up hope cause I know you’re in the lines

You’re not near but you’re not far

I see you in the fields where you still grow

Where you still know who you are

Trapped in orbit, I’m left to decode

— The End —
