Melancholia
Ifeanyi Oct 2016
Severe lightning flashes,
unveils the gloomy sky.
Quiet, lonely, darkness.

Somewhere in nowhere.
A misery heart bleeds.
Pillow soaked in tears.

Melancholia flows.
Psychology’s name for sad.
Depression they say.

a scribbled note and pen.
some pills to end the mind’s pain.
Slowy, life, drifted away.

A pause in time felt.
The world stopped,
silent,
to mourn.

Oblivion awaits.
Written on a severely depressing night. Originally written as a haiku poem, edited to seem free form.

AUGUST FEEL
Ifeanyi Oct 2016
Is any more caressing
than the blissful feel
of an August wind

Howling with its might
sending cold shivers
to trees, plants, and beings

Is any more soothing
than the gentle touch
of an August rain

Fuzzy little drops
erasing the thoughts
of yesterdays pain

Is any more saddening
than the worry-ful thoughts
of August last days

The trees reclining
As the breeze declines

and such brings forth
an earnest yearning
to see August once again.
Where i'm from, there are 2 weather seasons in a year, the rainy and dry seasons.

When i was younger, there's a period i looked forward to each year during the rainy seasons(April - September) called "AUGUST BREAK", it's a rainy seasonal break during the month of August, where the rain drops becomes lighter, the wind is stronger, the atmosphere more jovial, lots of kids playing around cause this period interferes with the holidays, and you feel nothing but glad to be alive.

Aggressive buzz of an alarm,
a new day is born.

Gentle touch of the morning breeze,
sending cold shivers up my spine.

Numb timid darkness, entangling with the golden rays of the sun.

And with such inharmonious beauty
comes a friend unfriendly – Time.

My feeble bones arise, exhausted from its daily struggles.

An occupied mind strives for sanity, away from its daily bustle.

Clothes creatively decorated with patterns of odorous sweat.

My heart ladened with  problems and i'm not married yet.

A memory ******, nonchalant of such sacred hour.

A project overdue and an angry boss comes to limelight.

The walls reverberated with the sound of a sigh
and the words "na wa".

Amidst this chaotic subconscious,

more time

– is my only plight.

The End.

"Na wa",
Also means "what the ****", in some places :)

Another Man's Dream
Ifeanyi Oct 2016
How sad it is
to see.
How not so special
we think we are.

Our ideologies,
sentiments
and believes
are  products
of another man's
dreams.

FRIEND

Unclothe
your garments
of fear.

Run off
with the wind
of change.

Dive off
your cliff of
uncertainties

into
the warm
embracing
hands of

HAPPINESS
To those who've lost themselves to the captivating hands of fears, conformity, rigidity and uncertainty, that they become too scared to live life to its fullest.

YOU THINK I AM MAD
Ifeanyi Mar 2018
I roam the streets freely
With no fears or worries

Embracing each day
With nonchalance

Dancing with childish ease
To the buzzing voice
Of the morning traffic

With blank eyes you stare

Masking your bewilderment
Spitting in disgust

As you hurry off
To chase illusions

Whilst I move like the wind
Caring not for attachments
Or never ending pursuit
Of happiness

Romancing the uncertainty
Of unknown tomorrow
Yet you think I am mad

YOU THINK I AM MAD

I roam refuses for food
Feasting on your left over
You think I am mad
With wide eyes you gaze
Upon me with derision
Masking your amusement
Often with a benign smile
Which slowly transcends to pity
The children serenade me
With songs of mockery
Whilst I dance unclad
Happiness I become
But you think I am mad

You dwell in your homes
While I lay in street corners
The night breeze lures me to sleep
We both wake at **** crow
On sunny days, you walk the streets
Clad in choking clothes
Your sunbaked faces
Trying to hide the wetness
Budding underneath your arms
I stand naked in the shade
Dangling my goods
You laugh at me
You think I am the one mad.
How would life be like from the perspective of a Lunatic (or madmen as we call them in Nigeria ;D)?
Me and a friend deliberated and decided to write on this on one of our random evening discussions. The second part was written by him.

Happy Never After
Ifeanyi May 2017
Blinding flashes
and sound of clicks.
The photographer's toy
records our joy.
The beach air filled
with laughs, smiles and kiss.
And friends long lost
Were found once more.

Popped cans of beer,
and loud echoes of "cheers",
"Let's build a fire!",
were all that we yelled.
few piles of sticks,
a bonfire was built.
Like kids, we danced around,
as the fading sun went down.

We gazed in awe,
and exploded with laughter.
As we told tales of mischief,
triumphs and disasters.
The fire soared higher,
bringing life to the Night,
and its menacing flames,
reflected grudgingly in our eyes.

Not so far off
from where we were: reminiscing,
Some palm trees swayed
in elegance: dancing,
to the melody
of a howling midnight wind.
And the moon lit the stage
with its silver rays.

We strolled by the coast,
wading through the sands,
love smitten, Nemerem and i,
hand in hand.
We sat and we stared,
as the ocean breathed,
and in such serenity,
our worries were blurred.

I stole a quick kiss
on her youthful lips.
She was shy at first
then responded quick.
We moaned and we gasped
and off went our clothes
drifting to bliss
beneath a radiant sky,
while the glimmering stars watched.

Her hair lit like gold,
while the morning sun rose.
As dusk gave away,
we both smiled, awake.

Forever in euphoria
was all that we wished.

but the truth reared its head,
an enemy to our wish.

For our

Holiday retreat ends,
and a journey home awaits.
Some Long open roads
and deceptious gates.

Our

Holiday retreat ends,
a journey home awaits.
Long open roads and
unwelcoming gates.

The end.
