Love

love is what most want
surely
than why do people fight?
they could just love
love how the trees move in the wind
love how the animals love nature
but instead

we are caught up
in a spiderweb
of lies
people acting different around others
to impress

but if we just
take the time to love
everything would be different
but without love
the world would turn to...

*what it is now.

Each day
Seems more beautiful
Than the last
As we learn
About who we are
And
Who we are not

The ageing
Of humanity
Reveals truth

I look ahead
To renewal
And the newness
Of each day

We have one body
One life
Destined to slowly fade
Yet full
Of eternal meaning
And legacies

darling girl,
why do you cry yourself to sleep every night
praying for someone
to come along and give you love,
to stay up with you till three in the morning
and listen attentively
as you list off all of your
passions, worries, burdens
to be envious of your attention
to kiss your forehead
and hold you without judgement
to be there for you
when you feel alone
to assure you everything will be okay
and remind you
that every sunrise and crashing wave
is a chance to make things right

when I’m right here
waiting for you with open arms,
ready to replenish
every empty space in your heart
because although you’re imperfect
and you hate the way
your front tooth is slightly crooked

I see you perfectly

darling girl,
why haven’t you opened your eyes to realize
that I’ve been here for you
all along

You are like the ocean
Drawing me in
As I step closer to the water
My feet sink in the sand
Leaving impressions of myself on the
Surface of your heart
But you steal the sand beneath my feet
I am swept into the water
With one wave you captured my being
You are so vast and beautiful
You are unending
And all encompassing
I wish nothing more than to drown
In the tides of your love
To sink deeper into the heart of my God
Because like the ocean your love is vast and
There is still so much left of you
To discover
Your word is my map
The guide to all treasure
And I will follow it faithfully
And though I might get a little lost sometimes
You are a patient guide
A faithful compass
And you will see me through
The stormy weather
And lead me home
Once more.

God is teaching me
how to not be so
reactive
that it is okay
to walk away

without explanation
that i don't have to
explain myself
to anyone

because he already knows my heart
completely

he is teaching me
to let go
of the things of this world
and hold on tight
to my relationship with him
and not my relationships
with others
because i feed off of
the energy of the people
i surround myself with
and i don't always
surround myself
with positive people
he has taught me that
if i feed off of people
instead of him
that i will always
be left feeling hungry
so this is my surrender.

You know you're a poet
When you have walked the tightropes
Of being placed into a confined label
And still look up to a brighter sky of hope.

You know you're a poet
When you hear echoes of voices
That resonate within your mind
From all the mistakes and bad choices.

You know you're a poet
When you can see shades of colour
Within a black and white film
And see value beyond the dollar.

You know you're a poet
When the winter comes you cheer
For all the new found imagery
Like the sight of snow that is white clear.

You know you're a poet
When spring has arrived
You think of a spring in a step
and how a pen-spring is alive.

You know you're a poet
When heartbreak is motivation
For a chance to write sullen words
And heart ache becomes a wonderful creation.

Transitory

I am here
Yet most times I'm not
Likened to a fleeting zephyr
Perchance may be caught

Beyond the bend, it's hard to see
Uncertain, unpredictable, unsure
There are chances however unlikely
To chart life's trot and canter

Awaiting the moment I would voraciously savour
The fullness of my being that's rare and transitory
Because almost always,
I'm drowning in doubt and clamour
With fevered breaths drawn more quickly
