The blood wasn't orange,
I swear it wasn't.
The oats from the oatmeal carry on;
Singing gracefully from the back seat, to the tip of the top,
Without the carrots from the basket, and the messages inside of them.
I began to investigate the possibilities of a ******,
but I realized I would be investigating my own fruits, my own plants,
I'd be investigating myself, and I wasn't ready to do that.
I was more focused on the blues in the sky, and how blue they really were,
or the way the bus driver couldn't stop blinking,
One thing I'll never forget, is the way the people looked at me when they heard,
Action, yes sir, next time don't erase my curiosities
please

Symbols and Cymbals

I haven't any light, I mean it,
and I don't have a reason to help the nuns,
although the homeless mean so much to me,
I spit in their change-cups, and cringe at the smell of them.
The worst part really was the bats, though,
because I could hear them rustle into the night,
*****, grimy wings,
I didn't ever see them.
I never will.
This is all a part of the electricity.
Without a blanket, you jumped into the world,
very, very, very sorry,
but even moreso am I very blonde and reasonably proud of you.

Slurpee
Douglas Beights Sep 2014
Slow rains, but the days working,
No pain, and the god's burning,
You tell me my taxes don't matter, when the game's spooky?'
I said my brain hurts, but no movies,
So meet me at the drop back, last gulp,
A glass of your white juice, with no pulp
but when the robots start beeping, light switch, up, down, backward,
it doesn't even count when the wires in your head spark.
the sugar bowl has but one use, and i will not be explaining it to you

Please, get out.
Douglas Beights Sep 2014
Gutter,
Gutter,
Stutter,
Gutter,
Gutter,
We live here,
I'll share it.
I mean,
Why am I even here?
I hate you all,
and I hate you both,
with your bath time,
just like I hate football games,
Half time.
I'd rather live in the gutter,
I'd rather live with a stepmother,
I'd rather live with a rodent,
or a roommate,
and not just any roommate,
I am talking about a really lousy roommate,
One who doesn't even contribute.
I am not asking anybody for advice,
Because I know exactly what they'd say,
"Focus on the good, not the one that got away!"
Well no one got away!
No one gets away!
They all stick around, for years and years and years!
They make me look at them!
They invite me to their weddings!
They call me up, and ask me if I'l deliver their ******* babies!
Hundreds and hundreds of hours on end!
Please,
Get out!
this is not a poem it is a statement

Once You've Made It
Douglas Beights Jun 2014
There will be many, many, many church bells,
I can promise you that much.
However, without your eruption, the alcove is filled with crude chirps,
Just as without the breeze, my doorstep is home to dead birds.
Everything I find, and all of the places that dissolved under my watch,
All of the men that bore their limbs into the roads,
I told them it was going to take this long.
don't ask me about meeting your maker; trust me, he doesn't want to see you right now.

That Hand
Douglas Beights May 2014
A horrible man was born on this day, eleven years ago,
and I knew him.

I promised him, once, that he and I would find it together.
That we would climb, while keeping our distance.

Distance is never good with someone like that,
I can assure you, he is gone now.

Son of Glam

Icebergs upon icebergs, laid out in front of the mail,

You have to claw through it until you can read the letters from your family.

I understand, in the heat of the moment, you might wish to cry,

What on earth are you crying for? Sabrina has been dead for years.

You, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, all the time, it is you,

Too much time to sing and dance,

But not enough quiet moments up in the trees.

We aren't going to make it, are we?

A useless firing squad dropped all of their weapons,
they dropped them because they wanted to see your reaction.
Like usual, I cared far more than I should have,
and when the brown coats came off,
I began to strike,
I really did it.
I knew I was fairly lucky in that moment,
I didn't have any questions about that.
But, I wasn't as lucky as I used to be.
I wasn't as lucky as the cloud of vapor in front of me,
or the man in the back of the police car.
I was never as lucky, as, as, as,
As long as you never hear the sound of my voice,
and never sit in my car,
I promise, I won't let myself feel lucky again.

Unpleasant fingers that make a noise that I'm not comfortable with,
Not on my watch will you slander the name of her Boar.
Under the dandruff wigs of fellow coachmen,
I stand and say: Follow the path of preferred map-tracks,
Disregarding the glass of subtle milk,
Disregarding the shattered plastic, all, over, my, head,
Believing in a higher power, is, what, I, said,
Kevin, you need to leave me alone now,
I hate the paperboy.

Thanks For The Tip
Douglas Beights Mar 2014
That young man does belong in your past,
I saw him there when I brought your homework to you.
He had very yellow eyes, which was great.
The truth is, I prefer to stay away from these types of situations.
The ones where you don't even remember how to huddle,
The ones where a group of older kids dog pile on top of you,
Those things make me feel overpriced.

Get out of the way when I tell you to,
Do not misplace your commas!
I live in the bottom of the puddle,
with all of the moss that is in your voice.
If you don't keep away,
If you even think about showing your face around here,
The mayor will give his two cents about that.
I guarantee it.

The Game of Rocks and Chalk
Douglas Beights Feb 2014
I am really, sorry,
I'm sorry that your favorite place to hike,
Turned into a place to shoot up.
"You are legal here, now, so make it work,"
The inspector snarled quite silently.
You know if my neighbors see you up here,
They might shoot you,
They might sic their dog.
If they catch you,
On this side of the lawn.
Douglas Beights Feb 2014
You've been using, you plate of ****,
What the hell took you so long anyway?
I do not remember where that came from, thanks.
If you ask me one more question, I'll be forced to do something,
I don't want to sick my companions on you,
But they have an impressive track record of being understanding.
Freedom is useless when you have a sick man like that on the loose.

Prayers upon prayers,
How am I supposed to explain that to the boss?
He would tell me to make myself at home,
He might offer me a nice cold cup of red coffee,
He would say, "What is on your mind?"
I would tell him everything.
Then you would be dead,
But I suppose it was worth it, wasn't it?
I'm gonna give it to you straight,
You're a lousy athlete.
Douglas Beights Feb 2014
No need to walk in the opposite direction,
He is probably a very nice man.
I can get over his lousy hygiene,
So long as him and his children spend the weekend at my place.
Now I'm really intruding, aren't I?
I always knew my poor social skills would be the death of me,
Oh well, at least we got a free meal out of this.

The bad time you had in the spring time was a warning of things to come,
A hot summer full of flu vaccinations and strep throat.
You were so sick.
I was so happy for you,
Because, that hospital is truly my sanctuary.
The white floors are moderately endearing,
And the custodial staff has always been cordial.
Just stay out of the cafeteria, okay?
That was **ours.
Douglas Beights Feb 2014
I do not trust the man upstairs with my personal information,
I see no need to let Him in on my affairs.
I told him that I would explain the status of my relationship when I was ready,
but He had no respect for my privacy.
I hung up the scarf for the final time that day,
I was no longer pursuing my dream of working with my hands.
He didn't like that.
"Nonsense," he howled in my face.
I can barely believe how uncouth this fellow is.

Get off my porch,
it's mine.
It was mine when I got here,
It is mine when I go to work,
It is mine when I go to the movies,
It is mine when I go to the liquor store.
When I stumble into the house after a long night of promiscuity,
It's mine.
When I shoot a man in the head, and place my hands on his ****** corpse,
It's mine.
You can have it when I'm gone, though.

I never thought you were the type of guy to buy drugs,
you never even have milk with your cereal.
I wish I hadn't known about your double-life,
At least try to make one of them good.
You have no right,
Going by your first name under the sun,
and your middle name under the moon.
Goodbye, Carter.
Goodbye, Wilson.
Goodbye, Henry.
Goodbye, Angel.
What the hell is going on here?
Underneath your clown of a husband was a paycheck,
Maybe that was all that really mattered, hmm?

The Need for Pollution
Douglas Beights Feb 2014
An arrogant, cold-hearted vigilante stands on one side of the border,
while a free-spirited security guard patrols the other side.
Oh? You need me to look after your son?
Yeah, maybe I could do it. If the price was right.
How can you trust me with your own flesh and blood?
You are on that side of the border, and I am on this side.
When you meet my son, it won't matter.
I guarantee you will love Him and want to protect Him.
Your son?
Okay, can we change the subject?
Douglas Beights Feb 2014
A ***** pond interrupts our conversation,
That simply isn't what I wanted.
You need to listen to us loud and clear,
We want you out of here.
Oh? You want me to leave? Perhaps we can strike a deal.
Yeah, Perhaps we can.
If you let me join in on the conversation,
I will have you praised by the greats.
Oh, God, no.

Could You Be More Unkempt?

He's here, he's here, he's here,
Everybody climbs up on Grandad's knee.
His stories are very fragile,
His laugh is covered in moss.
Grandad, did you ever **** a man?
No, Chester, I only buried him.
Grandad, what is it that happens when you die?
You know, none of that matters now that Murray is gone.
You really are not the man I thought you were!
Douglas Beights Feb 2014
I would like to take you out on a camping trip,
but the last time that happened it didn't end up too well,
This time let's not invite that other guy.
It sort of bothered me how he was just laying there,
I mean, hello.
Can we have some privacy? Honestly!
That one was a no-brainer, if you were to ask me.
Oh well, anything's better than spending an evening at Dairy Queen.
Or in an abandoned Burger Joint's parking lot.
The benefit of the doubt can go an incredibly ******* long way.
Douglas Beights Feb 2014
I never really liked parties,
I can tell you that much, however,
You told me a picnic was in order.
I thought I'd stop by, though I planned on leaving early.
When I got there, everyone plugged their nose.
They all collectively told me that I smell awful.
I got sort of mad.
What a rude way to treat a guest.
Douglas Beights Feb 2014
You tried to beat me when we played the quiet game,
but instead you cried until the ground duty told you to shut your mouth.
Shut up, Hector, you oddball!
What on earth is it that you want to give me?
Is that a baseball card?
No thanks.

Two Judgmental Men
Douglas Beights Feb 2014
I never really liked to play nice in the house,
What I did like to do was throw the football around the living room.
It was very dangerous, and my mother never enjoyed it,
But it definitely made me feel more euphoric than you ever did.
You're a judgmental man without a buck to his name,
Why on Earth did you head down the wrong path?
Douglas Beights Feb 2014
Please restring your useless piece of junk,
those types of friends are banned in this area.
Haha,
I see, you want to tune mine now?
Maybe you should have done it when you had the chance.
This young man will never look you in the eye again.
That's gotta hurt!

The Blackboard, it's filthy!
Shut up, my dutiful students.
My nasty breakfast is full of surprises,
I decided to eat it before my first day of school,
But me and Clint crossed that bridge together,
It was a bridge full of useless tears.
he told me about the demerits you gave him.
You are one sick *****.
