Bruscamente (brusquely)*
Cupid!   Wingèd cherub warrior
Pluck this arrow from my heart!
Pierce one more compliant with your
Sweet love potion’s little dart!

Pesante (sadly)
Leave me empty in my sorrow
For my lover has betrothed
So at least, until tomorrow,
Every form of love is loath

Scherzando (playfully)

In the morning, I’ll endeavour
To uncover unpledged muse
Then your little bow and quiver
And your arrows I … could use

Semplicemente (plainly)

Sweet paradox – mocks tragedy
For love … is love’s sole remedy

A quiet rhyme

A self-embracing silent poise and certainty
Where shattered will abandons jealous want
And life reflects a clarity of understanding

Restful arms

Deep and inviting, embracing me
‘Til my last doubt sleeps in that deep oblivion
Where dreams and truth gather to reveal
A vague and poignant similarity

Peace on Earth

Inside, the soul of puerile man
Reliving life not ever really lived

A quiet rhyme
- -
Alone we entered this domain
Alone shall we depart
And leave behind
Such solitudes

The voluntary choosing of
Involuntary choice
An eloquent expression of
An apathetic voice
A tribute to the losing of
All reason to rejoice
That subtle executioner …
Routine

Where even losers win … And winners lose

You will win
You will lose
Only you will know
Only you will care
And you won’t … really

Solitaire

Is this what you were born to do?
Or is this just diversion?
Or is Life just diversion?

He looks ... Once more
The wide, weathered barn door
Tilts … To the wind
Its hinges broken … Rusted
It will never close again
- -
Doesn’t matter
- -
A small, solitary swallow
Flees from the shadows within
Vanishes into a chaste sun
- -
He wonders … To where will he fly?
- -
A radiant white dove
Descends
Upon the shimmering tin roof
- -
It struts (in righteous pride)
- -
It coos (in blessed compassion)
- -
And
- -
It defecates
- -
- -
The field beyond this building is … just a field
Is there more than clouds above?
- -
- -
He hears the wife call to him … Gentle … Soothing
- -
His impotent body moves … Retreating
- -
The ache in his throat … Tormenting
- -
This time he’ll tell her that he didn’t …

Hear the child’s laughter

A writer is a tiger stalking
Purposefully through tangled plot
A poet is a kitten mocking
Feral instincts long forgot

In prose the words are carpets laid out
For the comfort of the fan
In poetry the words are weighed out
To educe a lyric plan

A story is a tale of reckoning
As the faithful reader’s caught
A poem reflects a wistful beckoning
To a purity of thought

In either case the subjects differ
Each one to the author’s schemes
Except with poems you must decipher
Exactly what … the poet means

Can we take a chance
On a brief romance
Can we bet
Our regret
Won’t exceed this dance?
Are we bold enough
To withhold enough
To embrace
In the face
Of this flame?

Do we dare attempt
Such a brash intent
Do we start
What our hearts
Beg our souls to tempt?
Can we really try
Caution to deny
If we do
Follow through
With this game?

I just can’t believe
We both feel this way
Such a vast relief
That we meet halfway
But I must admit
I am nervous yet
For the cost
May be lost
All the same

Time will pass until
We will both stand still
With our eyes
Realize
We’ve enjoyed the thrill
Of a brief affair
Nothing can compare
‘Til the chance
For a dance
Comes again
