Show, don't tell.

Show:

Suddenly he found himself smiling more, and occasionally he even laughed. His sarcasm withered away and instead, what took root was an incredible earnestness to explain his thoughts and feelings to other people and even listen- no matter how stupid he thought them previously. Eventually he figured that this odd happiness couldn't be just a coincidence: it was sustained by the way she dotted her i's with little hearts whenever she wrote his name.

Tell:

He was in love.
Just as useful for poetry.

The phone line dripped apologies
While I sat silently
All 3,000 miles north of me
Isolation froze solid on this moment

He had a heart attack they tell me
The room gift wrapped around me
Ripped open
Exposing a flaky rib cage

My arms wanted to stretch back home
Grab his heart
And palpitate his benevolence
Rewinding muscle memory

I have been told too many lies in hospitals
Watched a plethora of lives fall victim
Heard too many **** machines scream
Longing for the lost all too often

So I reprogrammed a code
For my Heart to beat overtime
To satiate the hearts
That no longer exist

I am a burst of wind interrupting the gentle breeze
Sleep surprised her like rain drops surprised a lakes surface,
In a dream she walked in silence,
Wave songs rushed the sandy shore,
his gaze so silent yet she could hear music,
his beating heart

She lived a pleasure in her dream, touching,
running her hand threw his hair,
gliding hands over rippled muscles,
smelling his warmth on her skin,
his lips meeting her aching breath

On the soft breeze he paused,
the sun dipped below the distant ocean,
In the blackness he bowed his head,
diamonds he whispered on her lips

─ Diamonds in the sky.
