Lost at sea

Some days I am swimming,
most days I am sinking.
There is never a day where I
can simply just float.

A discarded cloak, a painted mask,
Thrown carelessly upon the embers,
I looked away, and I didn’t ask,
The axe forgets what the tree remembers,
A line was spoken, so out of place,
Breaking the silence that should of stayed,
A movement forward, to see your face,
Entangled emotions, poorly played,
Tears of sorrow, but of little use,
Are glistening on the bonds untied,
The rope I threw became a noose,
Wrapped about the words you lied,

The stars giggle
Drunk on the dust
In the Milky Way
They tip over
Turning a fall into a dip
When I squint
I see you just like this
Dancing at the end of a stick

I would like to say
I wake up in the morning
Refreshed and ready
But I just squint through the light
Pouring through my window
Trying harder and harder to see you
As you disappear

no hand to pluck the strings
it speaks of love’s betrayal
and ****** when it sings

Stay here

Stay here
when everything says run.
Stay here
when the jaw grinds shut.
Stay here
when the breath runs thin.
Stay here
when you're out of your skin.
Stay here
when the drink calls quietly.
Stay here
when the voice says spitefully,
"you're not enough"
because
when it comes to this stuff,
running feeds the fire
and true healing requires
staying here.

I can only pour so much
Of myself into you
You say I'm half empty
I say I'm half full

It's hard to stay gentle
When you've been so cruel
I say I'm in love
You say I'm a fool

After many near misses
sweet thunderbolt kisses
explode upon my lips
heady molten sips
which burn me
turn me to matchwood
incendiary splinters
ashes of desire
a willing victim of flame and fire
