Short Dog
A nondescript small
container
of rainwater
and *****
spoke
and I listened
but yet so much
depended on me
not
******* this up

Cup of Water
No surface tension
as it is filled
just below the lip
and it rests
on a coaster
sitting on a T. V. tray
what is there more to say
except
that when you met me
you thought
I was a tall
cool drink of water
of which you never sipped
let alone
ever even drank

Cafe Drawings
A scribble
doodle
of a lollipop tree
or thingamabob
on a paper napkin
that might've been
used for
a ketchup stain
lipstick print
or a drop of running
mascara
why am I
here
it's definitely
not for the eggs
and steak
they call Moo and Peep
and it's not to feed
the soul
but it's definitely for the vats
and vats of sizzling oil
greasing the gears
spinning my wheels
the world's waiting
to give you
the brass ring
will you be ready to grab it

Answering Machine
Ever since
the flashing red light
we've been caught
in a loop
of tag
and no tag backs
a current in the sea
of humanity
that pulls us farther
and farther
away
from the shore

Poppy and Percy
Not where we drew blood
but under the bridge
is where we found you two
in the dark in a storm
like no other
and Poppy
I'd do the muddy slide
down the embankment
over and over again
just to rescue you
because it never grows old
to close my eyes
and hear you purr
as I watch you paint
murals on the walls
of my mind
and Percy
your prologue
meaning whatever went on before
did nothing to stunt your boundless joy
As you jump
from constellation
to constellation
and tweak the moon's nose
each and every
starry starry night
Some whimsy.

The Wreck of the Fairchild
Handing out wings
like they were portions of God
this narrow asphalt
made by architects of tourism
movers of time and space
reaching out like insane astronauts or genius heretics
breathing our iodine
becoming halogens
the sky moves sideways
dystrophic airwaves
feeble beacons
eerie radio silence
here come more perils from the sky

Pushback
The crest
and white frothy wall
of salty water
and you kick
before the wave
tumbles over
and knocks you down
but it feels good
to be alive
even though
you're on the losing end
of this eternal
fight
A word painting with a straightforward message.
