And so it's still dark
From last night
On into today

I have yet to see
A single sun ray

Should the sun come up
Behind a grey dull sky

With not a spark to guide
My wondering eyes

Poetically blind
I try with all of my might

But I can't find nothing
Not a single thing to write

   Blinded by
This long winter's night....

All I could think of was to shut you up
Smudge your perfect red lipstick
And forget
For once
About our private hell
And the weight of time
Hanging in the gut of us all

Fireworks scolded in your brilliance
Each one a spec k of observation
Amongst a sea of eyes with no limit
Fragments of no time

Infinity was the glance across the table
After our fourth drink

By the sixth we were bringing in the new year
In a fitful, sleepless night
Of stimulant drinks
And cheap spirits

I have been living as a ghost
For several years now
The ashtray is overflowing
In the wake of one thousand tongues
Spilling their way needlessly into mine

Whatever is left
After a lifetime of travel with no destination
Failed treatments and one thousand breathless
Attempts at barely living
Is yours

Whatever is left
Once you are done tending to the offshoots
And slicing each tendon from the bone
Is mine to keep

Your Lies

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can surely hurt me.
While the blows from sticks and stones can be healed, the words are ever haunting.

It takes millions of praises to put me back up but only one insult for me to crash and burn.
The cuts and bruises have toughen my skin, but the words have weaken my heart

The lies you have told have left me cold, never again believing the compliments I am told.
For the person for who i would take a bullet for became the person behind the gun

depression was a fisherman
who gutted me from the inside out
Emptying out everything that once was me and discarding it in a black plastic bag
And there laid my hollowed body
The insides carved of my skin
Leaving me paper thin
Happy new year old friend

Words are harmless, so they say,
That's where the problem starts;
Sticks and stones
May break our bones
But words will break our hearts.

Words are harmless, so they say,
And point you to their charts;
It's harmless fun,
No damage done.
But... Who will mend our hearts?

The x-rays show no damage
Where words have scathed across,
But it still feels hard to manage,
And leaves you at a loss.

Words are harmless, don't complain,
That's where the problem starts.
It's quite absurd-
A single word-
Enough to break our hearts!

But words are harmless, they maintain;
The subject of their parts,
No less or more,
So let them pour
From all our broken hearts
“Sticks and stones may break our bones, but words will break our hearts” is a quote I have stolen directly from Robert Fulghum.
In my defence, he'd already stolen half of that quote himself.
