Beautiful Little Fool
Brody Blue Jun 2018
Must we go on believing
That the best is yet to come
When we both know for certain
All there ever was is done?
Because whatever we were meant to be
We never had a prayer;
You weren’t where you said you’d be
And I was never there.

I don’t mean to let you have it
Like I did back when in Rome
But the line goes slack for no one
And a soft tongue breaks the bone
But as for holding onto fullness,
As for reaching for my hand
All attempts are vain and useless;
I am never where I am.

So leave your burdens where they lie
With the words you’ve memorized
We said when we knew we’d fly,
And we’d never die,
And it was meant to be,
But it was fantasy;
And it was destiny
That won the duel

My beautiful little fool.
Farewell my love, farewell to you;
My beautiful little fool.

In spite of all that you’ve been taught
By the bull that you were bought,
And everything you think you thought:
You are what you are naught;
And all the days to come,
And all of your wisdom,
Will not save you from
Your heart’s rule

My beautiful little fool.
Farewell my love, farewell to you;
My beautiful little fool.

All My Darling
Brody Blue Nov 2017
Here we go again,
Another yarn to spin,
As you once again
Pretend that it's the end.
And that besides your curls,
Your dimples, and your pearls,
You're not like other girls
And you wish you were my world;
And I wish you were all, my darling,
But I don't get to make the rules.

A man is not a man
Because he has a plan,
And just because he can
Counts ev'ry grain of sand.
For as sure as they are numbered
And that one and one is two,
Twelfth & Vine is on his mind
And Mississippi, too;
But I wish you were all, my darling,
But I can't seem to pick and choose.

Each time you come back down the hall ––
(Each time you earn my trust) ––
You confuse what you're supposed to do
With that which you must,
And by the idols of the mind
Young is wasted on the youth,
So to hell with being honest,
For once I'll tell the truth:
That I wish you were all, my darling,
But I wish they were all mine, too.

Dog Pound
Brody Blue Sep 2017
Brass plays a sad tune
Over the motors of the pontoon.
I was lost; now I'm found
Rescued from
The dog pound

Mama! Mama! Go get a doctor!
Send forty days of rain
And a kettle of copper.
Ride that train! Hurry uptown!
That ol' blue norther's pourin'
At the dog pound

Well, it's hard to be humble
In this land by the sea
But it's so easy here to stumble,
Ain't it hard livin' free?
Hear that train? How sweet the sound...
That Burlington's a-blowin'
At the dog pound

Rally! Rally! Creepin' up the alley!
Rope that heifer! No slack on the dally!
Make her now become a cow
And milk the puppies
At the dog pound

And with the storm well on its way,
Back and forth the breakers sway;
Fools rush in, makin' their rounds,
But the muzzle has 'em puzzled
At the dog pound

Paisley Poplin Shirt
Brody Blue Aug 2017
Under the tree of the university
A shadow was gruesomely cast.
The branches made too much shade
And there grew no grass.
No one would lie under its wood
Down beside its trunk;
It wasn't essential, there was no potential,
Claimed the revered monk
But late at night you'll find him lying in the dirt
Wearing a Paisley Poplin Shirt

The click of the gears define his years,
A cycle on a chain
A cloud of sand thrown by his own hand
Hones forth his pain
He blows seeds of dandelion weeds
****** a ****** field
And he pretends that he intends
To reap this horrible yield
Because unintentionally he subconsciously convert
To one who wears a Paisley Poplin Shirt

Covered in rust, a blade he adjusts,
His mind remains unwrung
The words to speak were too **** bleak
So he cuts off his tongue
He'll be finished when he's diminished
These humanly sights
If there's no vision at the end of his mission
He'll gouge out his eyes
And Helen Keller takes one of her old ragged skirts
And fashions him a Paisley Poplin Shirt

Why must we be obsessed
With the unseen
When we know we cannot
Make something out of nothing
And to those of you who think that you cannot be hurt
Stones go thru a Paisley Poplin Shirt

Far From the Wharf
Brody Blue Aug 2017
I gazed into his eyes like beads of sweat
Blacker than the empty spacious depths
Around the little bridge-like tiny speck,
An ember on His hearth
We only think is worth
Its broken wharfs.

He said to me: "Son, don't fear empty bluffs.
They may be steep but they're not steep enough."
And judging by the ace tucked in his cuff,
I knew he would be true
And his tale would be true too
About the wharfs.

"Throughout the many vicious centuries
The motor of it always seems to freeze
Until the kindled flame does hit the breeze
And thaws its frostbit joints
And burns the hand that points
Out from the wharf."

He cleared his throat and then he said aloud:
"Is piety reaped from fertile ground?
Or by the planter's hand is it endowed?
The answer lies in strife
So mount the throne of life
Far from the wharf."
A song about an improver.

Bury Me in Georgia
Brody Blue Aug 2017
High on the mountain,
I’m all alone,
Sittin’ by the river,
Water splashin’ on the stones;
As mornin’ fills the valley
Where before, the night was hung,
I wake up from the wine
But the pines block-out the sun

And the rain ain’t pleasin’,
And the cold is on the ground,
And strung-out on the byways
All the highwaymen stand round;
And above the crooked timber,
All the whippoorwills fly blue,
And they sing a song so lonesome,
Can’t you hear it comin’ thru?

Or did you decide
That you’ve gone deaf and blind
And I’ve been on the job so long
Who knows if I’ll survive, you just sigh,
As I wonder why I keep on
Tryin’ to get to you;
it’s no use…

There at your window,
Leanin’ on the ledge,
Y’got ‘em tryin’ to beat the blade
With a nine-pound sledge;
Y’got ‘em workin’ on a building,
Ev’ry carpenter in town;
Well if I had it my way
I would tear that building down

But it won’t get done
All I could ever win’s been won;
And I’ve been on the job so long
Who knows if I’ll survive, you won’t cry,
But will you try, if I die
While tryin’ to get to you, to
Bury Me in Georgia
Next to you

After all that I’ve been had
You’d think that I’d go mad,
But my anticipation
Outweighs my lack of patience;
‘Cause I’ve been on the job so long
Who knows if I’ll survive, so
Bury Me in Georgia
Next to you

Goddess, Sing the Rage
Brody Blue Jan 2019
Give me chastity, O Lord,
But please don't give it yet.
There's some things I'd like to do
And not have to regret.
I do pray though, O Father God,
That you are not like man,
But instead a lady, fine,
With loving, gentle hands.
And, if my desire be forbade:
Goddess, sing the rage.

If you wish to have all man
Inside your tender palm,
Flock your prophets to the mount
And tell them they are wrong.
For it was not a warrior clad
With armor and with sword,
But a woman, curious,
Who brought us to be lords.
And a mother's love cannot decay
Goddess, sing the rage

All faithfulness is out our mouths,
Our throats' an open tomb.
We seem to have forgot all
When we came from your womb.
Don't bother resting at our feet,
Your reverence is too great.
Just cast your wrath at our end
When we are at your gate.
And, in death, we'll give our praise
Goddess, sing the rage

Autumn Revisited
Brody Blue Aug 2017
I’m no troubadour
Who sketches and scores
A playwright’s lovely romance
But thru the valves of my heart
Song swiftly departs
As time releases its sand
The cracks in cement
I’ve tried to repent
But the rain and cold continue their rants
Till I’m slowly calmed
By the manicured palm
Of the one who has my hand

I’ve traveled down roads
Of dirt and of stone

I fell on when I left the nest
Though the metaphor used
Is often abused
I figured that it was what’s best
Though I’ve often feared
One will never be dear,
I’ll only be under arrest
I’ve finally been freed,
Chains are what I need,
Of mail, my heart they protect

The ocean is vast
So I stuck to the mast,
Handcuffed, overboard I won’t fall
But my crew was in shock
As I picked thru the lock
At the sound of your siren call
Your voice, although pleasing
Was mighty deceiving
For my fate was not why you bawled
You were above the abyss
Hoping I could assist
You, and you’re submerge I could stall

Thru the forest we walked
As you blindly balked
Your grin and the squint of your eyes
Until the leaves were billed
Of their chlorophyl
And the shroud of green withered and died
And a rumbling stampede
Of a single black steed
Proved your wrists were still bound with twine
And the faceless champion
Carved out a canyon
In my heart and my soul was fined

’Neath the street-lamp that glows
As dim as my woes,
My mind won’t allow me to sulk
Under it I have pondered
And learned nothing is softer
Than your lips the gods had to sculpt
I’ve done nothing but croon
Thru cycles of moons
That your touch was one to exalt
But I refuse to desire
A fuel-less fire
So your mem'ry's shut in the vault

Thru midnights of bliss
With restriction dismissed
I cheered and clanked my glass of ale
And though the red in my cheeks
Proved my health was not weak
My heart was green and pale
And I battled demons
With horns and in sequins
And they seemed to always prevail
As conquistadors
Till I stood before
A mana-filled holy grail

A lonely brass chorus
Throughout ev'ry forest
And desert and sea all alike
Played the song of hope
You wrote and composed
When I came back into your sight
Though I was still weary,
Your memory dreary,
A haze in the past moonlight
I was soon convinced
By what you commenced
And my lamp was soon burning bright
A song about my mistress' eyebrow

In the Late Second-Half
Brody Blue Oct 2018
Around the clock
     By lot we rot
To rag and bone
                            Abandonned
As the hour and
     The second hand
Seem both locked-up in
                            Handcuffs.
We lost our mules
     To Arkansas,
In parts we saw 'em
                             Vanish,
While we both stood
     In silence, blood
Cov'rin' ev'ry
                              Canvas.
If they'd only had
     The medicine
And met us in
                              Ratón,
This mess we're in
     Would fester some,
Then just as soon
                              Pass-On;
But now on the edge
     Of the tiresome sea,
Each pledging
     The other to
                              Stone,
We push and shove
     Our hand in some glove
In one fast move
     Will be
                              Gone.
Meanwhile, the tides
     (Poised by Poseidon)
Rise and
                              Disappear;
Hound dogs bay
     Beyond the bluff;
Bandits watch the
                             Pier;
And I look thru
     My lookin' glass;
You, into your
                            Mirror,
Both only saying
     Anything
The other wants to
                             Hear.
Though ev'ry dime
     Was lent, we spent
Them all to keep us
                             Floatin'
As autumn rolled
     Past summer's fold;
Now, winter holds the
                              Ocean.
No matter how
     We stack the deck
Our cards cannot be
                              Chosen
So the ones at hand:
     Take 'em fast!
Before the river's
                              Frozen;
But,
     Taking too fast
     Won't make it last;
Watch out!
            Don't crash!
                             Bewarned!
A ******* gets faster
     In the late second-half
Dry,
     In the eye of the
                             Storm.

At midday
     You insinuated,
Beneath the noontide
                            Sun
That I'm someone
     Who multiplies,
But will divide by
                            None;
Who swears he can
     Be counted on, yet
Never counts past
                             One;
Who cannot tell
     All he's lost
Apart from all he's
                             Won.
Who to and fro
     And back again
Has witnessed ev'ry
                              Sky,
From Anchorage, to
     San Juan Hill;
From Bangor, to
                             Hawaii;
Who, facing off with
      History, compiled
On the
                             Sly
A litany of victory
     By trickery,
Where
                            I:

                 Took on one sun
                       Won by one
                                           Handsome
                 Rook took from
                        His high-hilled
                                           Mansion
                 Took ev'ry bird,
                        Turned word into
                                             Anthems;
                 Took the book
                          And shook out
                                              Ransom;
                  Met Set head-on,
                         Left 'im severed and
                                              Scrammed,
                  Put roots to soil
                         And oiled the
                                               Cams;
                  Ran and ran after
                         That sure-footed
                                                Ram;
                  Stood under the light
                          With the swarm of the
                                                ******

Dont get me wrong:
      Life is long;
But time is swift,
      Adrift and
                             Blazin'
But you'll get burned
       If you don't learn
Advice is better
                             Taken
But
     Taking too fast
     Won't make it last;
Read!
       It's written in
                              Red:
A ******* gets faster

When Judges Ruled
Brody Blue May 2018
Sunday's bell broke the recess
And three times as professed
The gavel rapped before the rooster's caw
The horn was blown the drum was beat
And in the top of every street
We swooned with the wounded at the wall
And we said nothing just our prayers
But if someone's heard something
Nobody cares

And now with the yellow moon
Fixed beyond the clouds that loom
It soon would be a day the devil owned.
High on horseback thru the mud
They came and bathed their hands in blood
From the thumb up to the funny-bone
And we said nothing just our prayers
But if someone's heard something
Nobody cares

And by and by
We will crawl
Before we fly
High above
The middle of
Utopia

Lightning made the thunder ring
Until the dawn when suddenly
Light divided darkness in the east
Thus once more the wheel has turned
And proved itself a viperous worm
That gnaws the bowels of the beast
And we said nothing just our prayers
But if someone's heard something
Nobody cares

And by and by
We will crawl
Before we fly
High above
The middle of
Utopia

Where He Lay
Brody Blue Aug 2017
In a drunken stupor the widow lies awake
As she waits quietly for dawn to swiftly break
As the trumpet hums its chords and loudly plays
I can't even look at
Where he lay

Kicked from the infantry and stripped of my gun
For knowing that a victory is never truly won
I scoff at the thankful and their euphoric praise
I can't even look at
Where he lay

One must submit to chaos to birth a dancing star
But to walk a narrow path's to swim a pool of tar
We are merely blunders made by our own mistakes
And you want me to look at
Where he lay?

Now I'm fully intact but I don't give a ****
Misfortune casts its shadow a deity so grand
I follow my moonlight's eternal haze
It won't let me look at
Where he lay

It won't let me look at
Where I lay

The Game She Plays
Brody Blue Aug 2017
It’s true my friend,
She did leave again,
Though I did believe that
This time she would stay.
But I won’t regret,
Nor will I ever fret,
It’s only in
The game she plays.

And I just don’t
love her the same;
There’s not enough
To go around.
Though, when I
Hear her name
It’s such a
Lovely sound...

But she doesn’t care,
She only compares
Her field of daisies
With her field of hay;
And I’ll never know
What she’ll never show,
It’s only in
The game she plays.

And I just don’t
love her the same;
There’s not enough
To go around.
Though, when I
Hear her name
It’s such a
Lovely sound...

It’s two below
Here in Tupelo,
And I cannot feel
My fingers as they play;
But I can’t forget,
So maybe I’ll just sit
And think about
The game she plays.

We Shall See
Brody Blue Aug 2018
I woke up this mornin’,
All wound-up, down in the deep,
Laid-back under the haystack half asleep,
When she pulled up
In her Cadillac, uh huh,
And pointed to the two pillows
In the back, uh huh.
But will she get to me?
We shall see.

Out behind the barn
We tore thru the broomcorn plots;
Then up in the loft,
She cut the tops of my bootstraps off;
But she fits the bill
All by herself, uh huh;
All nine-yards on
A five-foot shelf, uh huh.
But will she get to me?
We shall see.

When autumn has rolled
Past the summer’s fold,
If the line goes slack,
If the wheels won’t go,
‘Cause I’ve never cried,
Not when mother died,
Nor this mornin’
When you went away —— ——
Was it then?
Or was it yesterday?

I told her: “It’s not fair!
It despairs the spirit of man,
To give a slave to their fate
Just to pay them to slave on demand!”
Then she said to me
While she was fixin’ her hair, uh huh:
“Some loser’s always tryin’
To make the whole world fair,” uh huh.
But will she get to me?
We shall see.

When autumn has rolled
Past the summer’s fold,
If the line goes slack,
If the wheels won’t go,
‘Cause I’ve never cried,
Not when mother died,
Nor this mornin’
When you went away —— ——
Was it then?
Or was it yesterday?

But don't tell me you can't remember
That bright night last November,

Won't you be my friend?

Did you foresee this circumstance?

Goodnight Loving
Brody Blue Nov 2019
Deserted on an island,
Wishing on a star,
To shine thru the clouds above
And show me where you are.
While I wait at the station
For the train that I'm to board;
I'm going home
For my reward.

But something in the way
You do the things you do,
Sure does make it hard
For me to make it thru:
A long time coming for
A good night loving you.

My revels now are ended,
I'm a man of twists and turns,
With many words to say,
Though for sleep I deeply yearn,
I get no satisfaction
From either anymore.
Solely from your kiss,
Only this and nothing more.

But something in the way
You do the things you do,
Sure does make it hard
For me to make it thru:
A long time coming for
A good night loving you.

I thought I'd find you weeping,
Waiting for me at the loom;
I thought I saw your headlights,
But it was just the moon.
Vainly, I drank up the sea,
And now I'm cursed to roam
The sands — again —
Alone

Deserted on an island,
Wishing on a star,
To shine thru the clouds above
And show me where you are.
While I wait at the station
For the train that I'm to board;
I'm going home
For my reward.

But something in the way
You do the things you do,
Sure does make it hard
For me to make it thru:
A long time coming for
A good night loving you.

Memento Mori
Brody Blue Dec 2018
We were young and lost at sea
And red, the morning warned
Prepared to brace a gentle breeze
We faced the perfect storm
When from the depths of heaven
Came the naked angel fast
The hour was eleven
And her squinted eyes, they flashed
And she drove off ev'ry dream
–––  she drove off ev'rything

She promised me eternity
And everlasting glory
She's my memento mori

Unraveled like the band of stars
That stain'd the sullen eve
Were her flashing teeth, quite marred
By blood from fallen kings
Laced into her aura
Two polar forces rot
One is true with horror
The other one is not
And you will choose to believe
In the one that you seek

When she promises eternity
And everlasting glory
She's your memento mori

Pacing thru this vicious cycle
Set down here by fate
****** unto this broken mile
Stretching from his gate
Many hear the chorus
As a beacon of fair light
But the angels ain't here for us
They're here to take our life
And we will fall for her touch
And we will use it as a crutch

When she promises eternity
And everlasting glory
She's our memento mori

She promised me eternity
And everlasting glory
She's my memento mori

Survive the Night
Brody Blue Feb 2019
Forever young are we
After they took that photo
I shed a tear molting from
The growth of the oboe
An orchestra they call us
But they misinterpret
Our melodies don't settle well
They are too far from perfect

And though an offbeat hymn
Is quite unique, the chance is slim
That you and me - you and I -
Were made to survive the night
So I suppose we juxtapose
Our movements

And drink the night away
And sing to hide away
The things we keep inside
And have a fly old time
'Cause you and me - you and I -
Were made to survive the night
So that's what we should do

Looking thru our letters
That pathetic alphabet
My smirk begins to widen
As my vision fades to flesh
And the moons that turn
Into dates upon the chart
Flash in empty space
Several centuries apart

And though the candle burns
The moonlight vandals yearn
For you and me - you and I -
To not survive the night
So be sure to endure
Their prudence

And drink the night away
And sing to hide away
The things we keep inside
And have a fly old time
Because you and me - you and I -
Were made to survive the night
So that's what we should do

Mercy? Pay No Mind
Brody Blue Jul 2019
Today is the day.
To yesterday, pay no mind.
Soon it will be night
When darkness rules things.
Whose corpse falls in the street, left
For buzzards to find?

Is it yours they'll find?
No. It won’t be yours to-day.
Leave for god what’s left.
Mercy? pay no mind.
You’ll find justice in the things
You will take to-night.

Soon it will be night
With a cloudy sky. You’ll find
Darkness will rule things,
Till the coming day.
To the sirens, pay no mind.
They have no song left.

Burn what they have left
To the ground. Light up the night.
Don’t pay any mind
To secrets they find.
They’ll be back at work some-day
Soon, and forget things.

And someday soon, things
Will be back like when we left.
Today’s not the day;
Soon it will be night.
At dawn, corpses they will find;
Mercy? pay no mind.

Mercy? pay no mind.
Go! Find justice in their things!
Take what you can find!
Burn what they have left
To the ground! Light up the night!
Till the coming day,

Pay no mind; what’s left
Are things to be had to-night,
Till the coming day!

From then on turned to gold.
I guess what wish to make
No poor boy gets to choose
Because everything I touch
I turn to blues

I'd tell you all about
How it all began
When I knelt before my love
And asked her for her hand
But all to say of that
At this point isn't news
Because everything I touch
I turn to blues

Like every mother's child
I've heard the white dove's song
But every time I tune my string
And try to play along
Him for the nightengale
I just seem to confuse
Because everything I touch
I turn to blues

It happened to the river
When I filled up my cup
It happened to the sky above
When I threw my hands up
So let the road I walk
Be glad I wear my shoes
Because everything I touch
I turn to blues

So listen little darling
But once I'll tell you this
If you get bold and hold me close
To steal away a kiss
The color of your rosy lips
And cheeks you're bound to lose
Because everything I touch
I turn to blues

Yondering
Brody Blue Dec 2018
In the beginning
There lies a dream,
To learn the unknown,
To see the unseen.
The oceans to cross,
The lands of the world,
The end of the trail
Where you win the girl.
Don't stop looking
For a song to sing;
Keep on yondering.

For your journey
You're set to embark,
Prepared to be fired
To light up the dark.
Despite people's words,
You know you won't fall.
On top of the world,
You'll look down on 'em all.
Don't stop looking
For a song to sing;
Keep on yondering.

Romance is a myth
That finally bursts thru
Past the grips of the dreams
That cause you much rue.
You find your love
Creeps slyly in front
Of your eyes and smiles,
She gently taunts.
Don't stop looking
For a song to sing;
Keep on yondering.

Somewhere my love
Lies sleeping all alone,
In some dreary town
She thought I'd call home.
Behind those lights
That stand like guards,
I left not a thought,
Only my regards:
“Don’t stop looking
For a song to sing;
Keep on yondering.”

Goddess Sing the Rage
Brody Blue Jun 2022
Of one man’s disobedience deceived to eat that fruit
That brought death into the world alone his sole repute
Whereby the serpent’s artful tongue misled did do that deed
And lost as he the blissful seat and rank of choses seed
But far unlike that spiteful fiend he fell when justly tried
Before the judge down to his knees with pleas for mercy cried
Yet when with mercy pardoned by the judge refused to cope
And let the loss of innocence be thought the vault of hope;
That which is dead within my heart revive and urge me play
A song that’s sure unto all man to justify your ways
Thru me tell the story, war on evanescence wage:
Goddess sing the rage

Of one man’s firm obedience both tried and tested true
Whose triumph, like the morning mist, gave unto each its due
When meekly giving up the ghost he boldly thus denies
A grave of such esteem for which a king would gladly die;
Whose kinsmen at the gavel’s rap like vipers drunk with wrath
Scourged heaven’s own begotten sent to speak on their behalf
And laid to waste that greater man then dared to go so far
As to blame all fault upon the silence of the stars;
That which is dead within my heart revive and urge me play
A song that’s sure unto all man to justify your ways
Thru me tell the story, war on evanescence wage:
Goddess sing the rage

Hail Holy Light! Offspring of Heaven’s word firstborn
Command the formless infinite at once take on thy form
And with thy vital lamp, dare I beseech thee to inspire,
Set fire unto darkness dead alight upon thy pyre
And from beneath thy sovereign seat where lies thy fountain’s spring
Oblige the maids of memory descend and sweep my string;
That which is dark illuminate, what’s low support and raise
That I in mine may for all time thru death still sing thy praise;
That which is dead within my heart revive and urge me play
A song that’s sure unto all man to justify your ways
Thru me tell the story, war on evanescence wage:
Goddess sing the rage

Waddle Down the Hall
Brody Blue Jul 2019
When every last oil rig coughs up sand,
And the tarred and feathered dove strokes dry land:
Maybe, baby, the world will get small;
But until then,
Waddle down the hall.

When all the forbidden songs are sung by the mute,
And the regular armies are rationed their salutes:
Maybe, baby, the world will get small;
But until then,
Waddle down the hall

When them old gold miners hold their picks up with poise,
And them old blind wardens get acquainted with the noise:
Maybe, baby, the world will get small;
But until then,
Waddle down the hall.

And so, come morning time, be there a sky of blood,
I’ll ride every alley way, be them filled with mud;
And maybe, baby, the ball will fall;
But until then,
Waddle down the hall.

The high noon
Of his wound
Blinds my
Cry.

Good Luck With That Goodbye
Brody Blue Aug 2019
Everyday you say that someday
Far away you’re gonna fly,
Like a little bird that sings
Till it don’t mean a thing.
Good luck
With that
Goodbye.

Then early in the morning,
You up and pulled out on the sly,
And threw away in threes
The love I gave to thee.
Good luck
With that
Goodbye.

Even if I saw it coming,
Tell me what was I to do?
Other than pretend that all the lies
You said to me were true?

In two my heart is broken,
But I can’t find a tear to cry.
Nothing is to gain
When nothing helps the pain.
Good luck
With that
Goodbye.

Time to time I pray for vengeance,
Tooth for tooth and eye for eye.
But when the heart forsakes,
Just as soon it breaks.
Good luck
With that
Goodbye.

Even though you got it coming,
Tell me what would that make you?
Other than another broken hearted
Soul that’s down and blue?

If you're happier with someone
Who believes your every lie:
Bless you all the way
Until judgement day;
Good luck
With that
Goodbye.

Overrunning!
Where once before
When somebody coming
Was someone worth loving
I left in vain
Not but so to keep
Wanting

Overrunning!
Forevermore
For you shall I
Be who I am
Becoming

Overrunning!
Wherein once more
When somebody coming
Was someone worth wanting
I fled in fear
So as not to lose
Loving

Overrunning!
Forevermore
For you shall I
Be who I am
Becoming

If I know one thing
It's not for nothing
For someone to speak
When one must say
Something

So I'll say one thing
Must I say something
Till I knew you
My love I knew
Nothing

Overrunning!
Forevermore
For you shall I
Be who I am
Becoming

It Was Good
Brody Blue Aug 2017
I saw seven years had begun,
It was good.
And I saw seven ears come from one,
It was good.
And the moon in the sky with the sun
Was so **** good.

And standing alone at the gate,
It was good.
I heard the earth come awake,
It was good.
But god only knows, if I break,
It's no **** good.

'Cause, I want you, tonight, over me
Yes, I want you, tonight, over me
You know what's true,
You know just what to do,
And I want you over me.

While the mountain fell to the sea,
It was good.
We fell to the sand on the beach,
It was good.
And it's obvious, naturally,
You know **** good:

That I want you, tonight, over me
Yes, I want you, tonight, over me
You know what's true
You know just what to do
And I want you over me

You know what's on my mind,
You know I'm thinking tonight:
I want you over me.

Unlike the Sun
Brody Blue Dec 2019
Not until you learn
To be kind to fellow man,
Who, unlike the sun,
Still has much to find
In the shadows cast by good
Intentions of will,

Can you thrive and will
Everything you come to learn
Be fruitful and good.
For in every man
Is a universe to find
That outshines the sun.

For under the sun,
Where immense heat halts all will,
Nothing you will find,
Nothing you can learn,
Competes with the heart of man
When within is good.

Man is all that’s good.
By man alone is the sun
Understood, as man
Utilizes will
And has tamed the beast to learn
To name what he finds.

In nature, you’ll find
It knows no such thing as good,
And you will soon learn
The indifferent sun
Has no heart, no soul, no will,
Near the likes of man.

In the heart of man
Resides all courage to find,
For courage is will’s
Resolve to do good,
As unlike the deathless sun:
Only man can learn.

Man has all the good
You can find beneath the sun,
For, by will, they learn.

Blood in My Eyes
Brody Blue Jul 2019
When I learned your love
Was now not mine for all time,
I disarmed my heart,
Because I thought life
Was what you saw with the eyes,
Not what you could feel.

Now, all I can feel
Is loathsome hatred, not love,
For my trickster eyes
That looked into time
Without seeing any life,
Neither soul nor heart.

And yet, still my heart
Beats on, till the day I feel
How swift is life,
And learn I need love.
I will beg of you this time,
With blood in my eyes,

With blood in my eyes.
Fragile is my lonesome heart;
Help me thru the time
So I learn to feel
Once more the fullness of love,
And how to live life.

For to have a life,
You owe the light of your eyes
And sweet breath. What's love
To a pale-green heart?
Not even worms does it feel,
Unimpressed with time,

Unexplained by time,
And knowing that dream called life;
How bad it did feel!
With blood in my eyes,
I beg you, take it to heart
That you have my love,

When in time, my eyes
See life in anothers' heart,
And it's me you love.

The Sound of the Rain
Brody Blue Sep 2019
The bell buried the day.
For whom it tolled played: "jingle-jangle",
While the hangman all but prayed
God made a single neck to strangle.
We mingled at the gallows
Till the marshal called a name.
One we couldn’t hear above
The sound of the rain.

Upon the figure walking up
The steps we fixed our gaze.
He stopped at the trapdoor
Like a mouse that’s ran the maze.
Yonder came a whistle
At the station from the train.
One we couldn’t hear above
The sound of the rain.

“Yesterday you smoked away
Another’s final breath.
Today you pay the fine in full
For that life with your death.”
He bothered not to silence out
The plea he cried in vain.
One we couldn’t hear above
The sound of the rain.

“Where there are many winners,
There are just as many losers.
You faced the judge and jury,
Now you face your executioner.”
The marshal then keyed off his cuffs
And they fell with a clang.
One we couldn’t hear above
The sound of the rain.

“So unto heaven from your feet,
You’d better raise your head.
Now’s the time to choose what words
Will be the last you said.”
But he left no final word
Other than the song he sang.
One we couldn’t hear above
The sound of the rain.

“Let judgement run like
Righteous waters mighty as the stream!”
The crowd began to stomp their feet.
At fate the dead man screamed.
The marshal gave the hangman
A command and he was hanged.
One we couldn’t hear above
The sound of the rain.

Love Lasts Long Past Will
Brody Blue Dec 2019
Puzzling the will
Time immemorial, love
Floods the realm of time.
Midday thru midnight,
Hearts attempt to blind the mind,
Till souls fall headlong

Into hell’s pit, long
Before our determined will
Submits to our mind.
Nothing comes from love
By lovers in endless night;
Swiftly moves the time

Till there is no time,
And the days that once seemed long
Turn forever night.
What good will your will
Be if there’s no soul to love?
So keep it in mind,

Your limited mind,
That in unlimited time,
All but for your love
Will not last for long.
You won’t live to see your will
Brighten someone’s night

Lest you brave the night
With the might of your own mind,
And by strength of will,
Disregard all time
So long as the day is long;
Only then will love

Truly be true love.
For even a stormy night
Is not for love long.
For love’s of the mind,
As the heart cannot bear time
Nor implement will

That love has in mind.
Thru the night and for all time,
Love lasts long past will.

Redemption
Brody Blue Aug 2019
Slay the lion, slay the hydra,
Take away the hind’s horn,
For the fourth one, bag a boar,
Clean the stables  till you’re sore.
Give your word to slay the birds,
Swear to tame that cretan bull,
Ride the mares plum out of fuel,
And grip a little lighter the hip of Hippolyta,
Grab the girdle, jump the hurdle,
Steal the cattle from the fool,
And pray the beast won’t get the feast
He wishes of your skull.
And even if the apples
Aren’t as gold as ones you've known,
Never mind! Cut the vine!
Reap! Before that Titan goes!
But that distant thunder rolling
And the lightning all around,
Let it part before you start
Toward the triple-headed hound.
A song about labor.

Maybe in Your World
Brody Blue Aug 2019
Maybe in your world
You feel no pain
And cry your tears
Beneath the rain.
And maybe in your world
You ain’t been blue,
And what you say
You need not do.

Maybe in your world
The stones gather moss
And love’s labors lost
Is just a sunk cost.
Maybe in your world
Your resolution soars
That the cause of peace
Calls for an act of war.

Maybe in your world
You waste away the years
Giving hostages to fortune,
Taking counsel of your fears.
Maybe in your world
You desecrate the halls
Of man and god and law,
Robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Maybe in your world,
You’ll serve no time.
Maybe in your world,
Maybe in your world,
Maybe in your world,
But not in mine.

Maybe in your world
Justice you’ve been told
Is giving what is owed
Back again one hundred fold.
Maybe in your world
The benefit of doubt
Is for god to give the innocent
When he has sort ‘em out.

Maybe in your world,
You’ll serve no time.
Maybe in your world,
Maybe in your world,
Maybe in your world,
But not in mine.

Just a Boy
Brody Blue Jul 2019
When I was a boy,
I was destined to rule.
Divine right of the king
Means there wasn't a school.
I'd sit on my throne,
And long to look at the clouds,
And laugh at the pictures in them;
Now I'm under this shroud.

They say that a man
Is supposed to work to his bone,
But I'm only just a boy
Taken from his home.

When I was a boy,
I was put on a ship;
One leg of the triangle,
My back, they would whip.
I was brought to the new world
Where the faces weren't black,
And the flag had thirteen stripes;
That match the ones on my back.

They say that a man
Is supposed to work to his bone,
But I'm only just a boy
Taken from his home.

When I Met You, Love
Brody Blue Jul 2019
When I met you, love,
On last April's fourteenth day,
While on that month long
Road trip, we got lost,
Found a bar, and went inside
With an empty hand.

I fulfilled my hand
That night, when I met you, love.
You snuck me inside
Your room night and day;
I must admit, I got lost.
But not for too long.

‘Cause the road is long
Ahead; and a bird in hand
Is worth two you’ve lost.
When I met you, love,
It was on the fourteenth day,
And you stayed inside.

And you stayed inside
For just way too ******* long.
Windows shut by day,
Lights at night in hand.
That night, when I met you, love,
Were you just as lost?

That night, we were lost;
At the bar we sat inside.
When I met you, love,
I still had a long
Way to go. But bird in hand
Was worth two that day

Till there comes the day
When I’ve found what isn’t lost,
That a bird in hand
Is worth two inside
The bush. It’s been so long since
When I met you, love,

That day spent inside.
I lost you; it took too long
For your hand in love.

You Come Too
Brody Blue Sep 2023
Come hear me tell my story,
I promise that I won’t detain you long.
The next to last of labors
On my list was stitch them into song.

All that’s left to do
Is a job for two.
One won’t do,
You come too.

Great lengths I’ve gone to get here,
The distance closed between beyond belief.
With equal joy and sorrow, the tears I’ve cried
Have filled the depths of grief.

All that’s left to do
Is a job for two.
One won’t do,
You come too.

I’ve climbed to the top of the mountain
From the depths of the valley below,
Walked from the river’s fountain
To the ocean’s flow.
And further down in dark descent
I searched until my light was spent,
In search of what, I never knew
Till it led me to you.

All that’s left to do
Is a job for two.
One won’t do,
You come too.

If You Stick Around
Brody Blue Aug 2019
I knew from the day we met
The past had closed its curtain.
But if I made you mine today,
Tomorrow stayed uncertain.

But if you stick around,
Paradise will have been found;
I'll never let you down,
If you stick around.

Now we are together
With forever still to go.
Who I’d be if you left me,
I don’t want to know.

But if you stick around,
Paradise will have been found;
I'll never let you down,
If you stick around.

If there comes a day
It hurts for you to stay,
I'll bite my tongue
And let you go your way.

But if you stick around,
Paradise will have been found;
I'll never let you down,
If you stick around.

It Should've Been Simple
Brody Blue Apr 2019
It should've been simple
To work it out,
And leave it all behind us,
But it won't be now.
It should've been easy
To live our life in love,
And reach our full potential,
It should've been simple.

I'll be so glad
When the sun goes down,
(And there's a darkness
On the edge of town)
And I'm on that midnight train
To leave behind my pain.
It was never meant to fall,
And above all:

It should've been simple
To work it out,
And leave it all behind us,
But it won't be now.
It should've been easy
To live our life in love,
And reach our full potential,
It should've been simple.

One foot on the platform,
One foot on the train;
Up above a raging storm,
Down below a freezing rain,
It was never meant to fall,
And above all:

It should've been simple
To work it out,
And leave it all behind us,
But it won't be now.
It should've been easy
To live our life in love,
And reach our full potential,
It should've been simple.

Go the Whole Way Thru
Brody Blue Jul 2019
There may come a time
When I go out of my mind,
Lest I see a light
From above shine thru,
And all renewed ‘neath the sun;
Then the sky may fall...

Summer’s turned to fall,
And soon will come winter-time,
A cloud covered sun
Robs wonder from mind;
Until the spring comes thru
Blessing us with light.

Though spring with its light
Will come, first will come the fall.
Go the whole way thru,
It soon will be time
To learn the limits of mind
Lies under the sun.

And under the sun
Is where you stand in the light;
So keep it in mind.
Summer’s turned to fall,
And soon will come winter-time.
Go the whole way thru.

Go the whole way thru;
Look toward tomorrow’s sun.
You will find no time
For the bright spot-light
When you wake up and it’s fall.
It will blow your mind.

If spring’s on your mind,
I’d advise, don’t think it thru.
First will come the fall;
A cloud covered sun
Will block out all of the light,
Then will come the time,

Your mind in the sun,
And shining thru it, the light.
But fall comes, this time.

Love by time is made no fool —
Time in truth by love is ruled —
But what's true love can't conceal,
Thus in time does truth reveal:
Love can't free a heart that sings

Slow at Heart
Brody Blue Sep 2023
The whistle blows, the brakemen call:
All aboard! Come one and all!
Ducking out of the rainstorm,
I boarded the train.
Paralyzed on the platform,
You stuck to the rain.

And so it goes,
The slow at heart.
The first to book the train
Worlds apart.
Then when the whistle blows
And train departs:
The last to show’s
The slow at heart.

With both your eyes along the arrow,
You take your aim and draw back slow
When up from the mire
Comes a serpent that hisses:
If one never fires,
Then one never misses.

And so it goes,
The slow at heart.
The first to set their aim
Past its mark.
Then when the time arrives
To shoot the dart:
The last to throw’s
The slow at heart.

[Horn.]

And so it goes,
The slow at heart.
The first to rack their brains
In the dark.
Then when the light provides
What truth imparts:
The last to know’s
The slow at heart.

The Hand We're Dealt
Brody Blue Dec 2019
Love is all that’s good
In this realm of night and day.
We walk hand in hand,
Two lovers in light,
Till pale bones strewn in the rain
Is all that is left.

If not for the left
Turns that turn the tide from good
Cheer, to solemn rain,
Every given day
Would be fully filled with light,
None spent hand in hand.

But I fear the hand
We’re dealt will not leave much left,
Not a beam of light,
Much less something good.
And so now we brave each day,
Stoop and pray for rain,

Then when comes the rain,
Remain inside with our hand
Folded like the day
Each night, right and left,
Conflating fear with what’s good,
The dark with the light.

Love does not make light
Of those icy sheets of rain,
Nor thinks they are good,
But lends you a hand
And helps you take what you’re left
With, bright'ning your day,

Making every day
In spite of its darkness, light.
When nothing is left
Of the solemn rain,
Again hand in hand,
You’ll see it was good.

Thru that day of rain,
The light from your lover’s hand
Left you feeling good.

Deathless
Brody Blue Nov 2019
Deathless is your beauty, evermore
Boundless than the sea between the shore.
Nothing near your likeness have I ever come to know,
A beauty deathless as a precious stone.

Though no diamond and no amethyst
Has yet to cross my sight I can’t resist.
But I would spend my final breath and even sell my soul
If it bought me you for me to hold.

But I’m afraid it’s much too great a cost
When all required to desire's lost.
And for me to sit and wait in faith with bated breath
Won't bring me you but only certain death.

For deathless as your beauty seems to be,
It is not deathless in reality.
Every flower’s powerless when faced with history,
Deathless only within memory.

Howbeit
Brody Blue Dec 2019
What can you do to get higher than heaven?
What can you know to go deeper than hell?
What can you ask but an age old question?
What can I say no tongue can tell?

There is a time when all will be forgotten,
When all beneath the sun to ashes burn;
When the fruit on the vine is rotten,
And to earth, as dust, returns.

Howbeit, if with cloud comes thunder,
And with thunder, brings the rain,
All the same, we’re left to wonder—
(With no answer to obtain)—:

What can you do to get higher than heaven?
What can you know to go deeper than hell?
What can you ask but an age old question?
What can I say no tongue can tell?

In spite of all the time we spend attending
To what's been seen and said, desired and done:
Clouds on high grow far-extending,
And the light is overcome.

Howbeit, if with cloud comes thunder,
And with thunder, brings the rain,
All the same, we’re left to wonder—
(With no answer to obtain)—:

What can you do to get higher than heaven?
What can you know to go deeper than hell?
What can you ask but an age old question?
What can I say no tongue can tell?
