Drinking moonshine from the jar,
Getting higher than the stars
Till she no longer feels so far above me.
But I'll need another round
Because it's known all over town:
She don't like me like she loves me.

Though she might be thinking of me,
She don't like me like she loves me.
And it cuts right to the bone,
But I'm afraid it's set in stone:
She don't like me like she loves me.

Every time she'd start to stray,
Her heart I'd try and sway,
However far away she tried to shove me.
But all I ever proved
Was a cold heart can't be moved.
She don't like me like she loves me.

Though she might be thinking of me,
She don't like me like she loves me.
And it cuts right to the bone,
But I'm afraid it's set in stone:
She don't like me like she loves me.

I'd like to think someday I'll find
She's gone along and changed her mind,
Even if it's ever only slightly,
And begin to think of me
For the man she used to see,
But more than likely:

Though she might be thinking of me,
She don't like me like she loves me.
And it cuts right to the bone,
But I'm afraid it's set in stone:
She don't like me like she loves me.

Howbeit
Brody Blue Dec 2019
What can you do to get higher than heaven?
What can you know to go deeper than hell?
What can you ask but an age old question?
What can I say no tongue can tell?

There is a time when all will be forgotten,
When all beneath the sun to ashes burn;
When the fruit on the vine is rotten,
And to earth, as dust, returns.

Howbeit, if with cloud comes thunder,
And with thunder, brings the rain,
All the same, we’re left to wonder—
(With no answer to obtain)—:

What can you do to get higher than heaven?
What can you know to go deeper than hell?
What can you ask but an age old question?
What can I say no tongue can tell?

In spite of all the time we spend attending
To what's been seen and said, desired and done:
Clouds on high grow far-extending,
And the light is overcome.

Howbeit, if with cloud comes thunder,
And with thunder, brings the rain,
All the same, we’re left to wonder—
(With no answer to obtain)—:

What can you do to get higher than heaven?
What can you know to go deeper than hell?
What can you ask but an age old question?
What can I say no tongue can tell?

Deathless
Brody Blue Nov 2019
Deathless is your beauty, evermore
Boundless than the sea between the shore.
Nothing near your likeness have I ever come to know,
A beauty deathless as a precious stone.

Though no diamond and no amethyst
Has yet to cross my sight I can’t resist.
But I would spend my final breath and even sell my soul
If it bought me you for me to hold.

But I’m afraid it’s much too great a cost
When all required to desire's lost.
And for me to sit and wait in faith with bated breath
Won't bring me you but only certain death.

For deathless as your beauty seems to be,
It is not deathless in reality.
Every flower’s powerless when faced with history,
Deathless only within memory.

To Love Be True
Brody Blue Aug 2020
If we were to conceive
What is as what's received
That is as is accept
What is as its effect
And if it be that love
Of all is far above,
Made so by just decree,
Then it must be:

To sail when tempests
Bite your bark at sea:
To love be true
And you true
Love will
Free

To rise from drinking
Life down to the lees:
To love be true
And you true
Love will
Free

To calm the stormy deep
And weary soul to sleep:
Part from what's past.
To make the darkness seem
A long departed dream:
Put first what lasts.

And to undo that debt
No soul can flee:
To love be true
And you true
Love will
Free

To love be true,
To love be true,
To love be true
And you true
Love will
Free

Give Me Life
Brody Blue Aug 2020
If I know one thing,
It's not for nothing
For someone to speak
When one must say
Something.

So I'll say one thing,
Must I say something:
Till I knew you,
My love, I knew
Nothing.

Sweet Red
Brody Blue Feb 2020
There's something when
I’m feeling down
That makes me feel
From sole to crown:

Love’s underway,
Heart’s overhead,
Time’s out of mind,
O! Sweet Red.

When I feel dry
She fills my cup,
And then each time
I drink it up:

Love’s underway,
Heart’s overhead,
Time’s out of mind,
O! Sweet Red.

Stars align
And I’m set free.
I was blind
But now I see:

Love’s underway,
Heart’s overhead,
Time’s out of mind,
O! Sweet Red.

Swarm of the Damned
Brody Blue Jun 2020
Let darkness be the day!
Let darkness light my way!
For I in vain do pray
These prayers unanswered.
How weary, stale, and flat
Seem wisdom, truth, and fact,
No tether graced with slack
Nor song with dancer.

I’m not sure what from it will bring,
But I’ve already stolen a new pair of wings
From the back of a moth,
Hoping they can take me farther.
Beneath the glow of a lamp I drift,
From the swarm of the ****** I cannot sift,
And beneath the light
Only makes the night look darker

On the path and its wayside,
Scour I both far and wide,
Finding not but foolish pride
That dulls no hunger.
And in faith with each day done,
I await the rising sun,
But as soon as morning comes,
Comes night to plunder.

I’m not sure what from it will bring,
But I’ve already stolen a new pair of wings
From the back of a moth,
Hoping they can take me farther.
Beneath the glow of a lamp I drift,
From the swarm of the ****** I cannot sift,
And beneath the light
Only makes the night look darker

Want
Brody Blue Mar 2020
We once had flown
Two hearts as one,
But flew I fear
Too near the sun.
One stone thrown,
Two fallen doves:
Forever in want,
Never in love

By sling and bow
And whip with scorn,
We palm to palm
Apart were torn,
Left head in hand
And hand in glove:
Forever in want,
Never in love

Now present casts
A thousand shocks;
As past departs,
The future mocks
Our buried hearts
(And worms thereof):
Forever in want,
Never in love

And You Come Now?
Brody Blue Feb 2020
Angels have fallen
And the stars are crossed,
To everlasting pain
The battle has been lost.
And just when I think
That I can’t take anymore,
Look who’s knocking
On my door…

I bear cross and crown
On back and brow,
And you come now?
And you come now?
I defy the odds
Fate will allow,
And you come now?
And you come now?

It's been made clear to me
However hard I pray,
Time passes faithfully,
And love fades away.
But when I try to walk alone,
It takes not but a breeze,
To bring me down
To my knees…

I bear cross and crown
On back and brow,
And you come now?
And you come now?
I defy the odds
Fate will allow,
And you come now?
And you come now?

I don’t claim to have
An iron heart,
Nor one of stone,
Just one that needs restart.

I bear cross and crown
On back and brow,
And you come now?
And you come now?
I defy the odds
Fate will allow,
And you come now?
And you come now?

All that's given
Has been taken.

To Have a Life
Brody Blue Jan 2020
Born to roam this wicked wild,
You have so little time,
So to and fro you wander, while
A slave to heart and mind,
Till Mother Earth and Father Time
Both shrug you off like flies;
To have a life
You're gonna have to die

Though the stage may foster fame
With every strut and leap,
None but tongues shall bear thy name
When cold begins to creep
From the arrow in your ankle,
Past the hollow of your thigh;
To have a life
You're gonna have to die

You'll face spitfire and spouting rain
That slowly drives you mad,
As everything you gain
Becomes not but what you once had,
You'll fall to earth down to your knees
And curse a dumbstruck sky;
To have a life
You're gonna have to die

Then you'll forgo your soul to go forth
Gently down the stream,
Awake asleep, asleep awake,
Forsaking every dream,
With all that's false appearing true,
And all that's true, a lie;
To have a life
You're gonna have to die

And when your body, spirit, heart,
And mind are finally one,
From lion back to mewling babe
You turn and all is done,
For all must leave their burdens
To pass thru the needle's eye;
To have a life
You're gonna have to die

— The End —
