Night breeze
infinite breath
it's been nearly century

If I can't breathe this air in heaven
then I don't even want to go there

Om

Om

If I can't hear these words in heaven
then I don't even want to go there.

From the street below
comes drifting
into my
scented room ...

to grow
& grow ...
the sound
of many voices
harmonious
in song,

unable at first
to comprehend ...
but then realizing
"Om Namah Shivaya"
is being repeated
over & over ...

a hymn of praise
from the mouths
& hearts
of women
& girls
to the Great
Lord Shiva,

& it will continue
all evening long.

SWAN SONG
(–noun the last act or manifestation
of someone or something;
farewell appearance)
_____
Lotus pond
Waits
Silently
Lotus flowers too

Pink petals -hesitatingly
Unfurl, heron silently stare
Life unfolding,
In the morning mist

Boddhi tree floated, a message
Of life,
In the falling leaf
On the temple floor

Breeze stood still
Music of Flute stopped playing
In the bamboo grove
Swan has started singing its song

Life, lives in little steps of love
But love bleeds life
In little steps, too
Falling, leaving and dying

Swan is singing
Its swan song
Time does not know,
It has come

Deep in the temple
Buddha Smiles
Nothing is forever
Forever is nothing

Oh Swami Muktananda Paramahansa that bliss of liberation you attained
by Guru Nityananda's grace emancipation in this very life you had gained.
You were a representative of the lineage of poet-saints that had gone before
showing how easy it was, by chanting the name of God, to meditate for sure.

You stressed the importance of repeating the mantra 'Om Namah Shivaya'
and that if done with love would bear fruit regardless of who was the sayer.
There was so much energy about you that one could feel, like an ever present force,
the supreme blessing of Guru Nityananda was with you always being its very source.

You were a living embodiment of chitishakti or divine power-knowledge-bliss
and most of all those who came before you could also easily experience this.
It appeared at times you were unapproachable if one was by your presence overawed
and that you were on the constant lookout for any sincere aspirant who was not bored.

You also emphasized and revealed the true nature of the guru-disciple relationship
stating in plain modern words what was expected of one like in an apprenticeship.
Many secrets of the inner path you divulged and laid bare in all your writings and talks
saying the receiving of Guru's grace was what made a difference on the path one walks.

A book called 'The Play of Consciousness' explained some of the inner experiences you had
your spiritual autobiography for the world at large making many inspired and extremely glad.
To many it meant that someone was still around living these days who had been through it all
and was available to instruct and guide others on the path to the goal he'd been to well before.

You were a living True Saint, Sadguru or Perfect Master to many it seemed
and showed the way or path of the Siddhas being the one which you deemed.
Living at a place called Ganeshpuri in India nearly fifty miles from Bombay
many came from all parts of the world to see you and in your ashram stay.

In the abode you named 'Shree Gurudev Ashram' in that land of yoga where people came
many found what they were after becoming your devotees to whom you gave a new name.
There was a strict daily discipline of chanting certain scriptures, work, study and meditation
and also the occassional all night chanting of the name of God which was a holy dedication.

The atmosphere in that place was so pervaded by the energy radiating from your being
almost as if one were living in another world and could not help what they were seeing.
The whole place resembled that of a temple palace attracting people from far and wide
who came to experience what with your grace you said was to be found but only inside.

You opened up a whole new ancient path of spiritual experience leading gradually to the goal
that people from all walks of life could participate in and regain the lost treasures of their soul.
By one-pointed devotion, self-effort, obedience, meditation and the blessings of Guru's grace
anyone could practice Yoga easily without much struggle and attain that inner peaceful place.

There were many new centres that opened by enthusiastic devotees in far away lands;
with the money, sweat and labour of all those who selflessly gave by their willing hands.
And it didn't really matter at what distance or place this centre was situated from you,
although not physically present your spirit, being all pervasive, was subtly there for you.

You also visited many of the countries where your devotees lived both in the east and west
giving darshan to all those old and new followers of the Siddha path you said was the best.
Initiating many people by either a look, word, thought, touch or even by your physical presence;
and all who received of your grace getting a real buzz, were invited to tell others of its essence.

It was mostly at a certain two day program, held every one or two months, called an "Intensive"
anyone could partake of the Siddha Yoga Initiation offered, at a price, which wasn't expensive.
This was also designed to enhance and recharge those who were already practising meditation
involving chanting, meditation and talk sessions including a lunchtime meal and brief relaxation.

One had to participate fully, from about nine to five, over the two days, usually on a weekend
to get the full benefit of what the program had to offer and experience Guru's grace descend.
This was really the main date on the calendar for all those into meditation that were not to miss
if they had nothing better to do and wanted to get a lift in their 'sadhana' and acquire some bliss.

It remotely seemed to be a bit of a fund raising venture with all the money seen changing hands
but to those who couldn't afford it, must of been painful missing out, one somehow understands.
There was also the question, which crossed one's mind, as to what was being bought and sold?
- a meditative experience the result of Nityanandaji's grace through Swami Muktananda's hold!

Although no one was ever heard to complain about not getting their share of what was being given
and with the attitude of 'the more you put into something the more you'll get back' one was driven.
It also depended a lot on how much in tune you were and what prior preparation had been made;
how sincere you were in your effort also what devotion and faith at the feet of the Guru one laid.

There were no restrictions, it appeared, to either old or young, male or female to begin meditation,
all could profit and benefit in one way or another in the process and practice of Self contemplation.
One had to have an open mind and heart to receive and partake surely of the Grace that was there;
that power of the True Living Master, which was so all pervading, being available for any to share.

I plucked Bilva leaves
amidst silver showers
rippling gems fell
from the firmament
a curtain of crystal

Like a rain angel with
translucent wings
the color of dew
and rainbows
I chanted
Om Namah Shivaya
Om Namah Shivaya
Om Namah Shivaya

The pieces of clouds
fluttered down the autumn sky
Settled softly
On children's tongue
New Rainfall

I woke up
Longing
Memories still clinging
On the cobwebs of sleep
Did you smile in your dreams?

The dark skies
Winds sweeps
The clouds together,
Shutting off sunrise
Are you making rains today?

She wanders
In and out of my thoughts
Weaving cosmic dreams
With foot prints
In my heart

There is a thin line
Between love and lust
Between sea and sky
Between me and you
Lend me an eraser

Flew all over clear sky
Trying very hard
Like a stubborn child
To leave few foot prints, in your life
Off my memories

Gogyohka is a new form of poetry which has been developed in Japan. Gogyohka simply means verse which is written in five lines, but each line generally represents one phrase and has a different feel to five-line verse commonly found in Western poetry. This new form of verse was developed by a poet called Enta Kusakabe, who first came up with the concept in 1957

The journey within
And the undulating path
River of time flows on

Shores travel along side
All the way long,
Before offering their very existence
At the altar of life
Along with the flow of time
Fabric of ocean is all consuming
All consuming cosmic design

My journey too
Churned in travails of senses
Some times I sink
Some times I surface, in little bit of light
Gasping for breath of life
Some times I wander, helpless
And some times totally lost

Slowly, under my feet
The road disappeared
Am I the destination?

River Song
__

As flow of cosmic creation
She streamed down from sky
Entangled in the web of icy locks
Lovingly nestled mountain’s arms
As she flows, her young heart
Hopping, skipping and jumping
Stone to Stone
Some times in streams of unending games
Sometime turning into falls

As she grew, in warm shadows of icy peaks
She lingered in warm hugs, within watchful eyes
Softly glowing in the warmth of love,
Living, dreaming in laps of belongingness
Yet, times moves on, on and on
Slowly, she finds her way out of this intense hold
Out in the open fields, and in gentle sway
As icy peaks held themselves away
She flowed on and on
A life of exploring;
Fields and bathing Ghats
Temple bells; moving carts
Bridges, bunds and floating mass

Vast as she is now, no one to hold
Her, in his strength of love
She lets loose fury of passion
As aggressive as her body flows
With lust; exploring, caressing and feeling
Edge of crumbling earth
In her entwined desires, needs
With every erosion, feeding her devouring soul
Banks don’t matter, not even the mountain
Lost long away in past

At last sun sets down on another day
Another life ends
In vastness of ocean,
No knowing; in nothingness
Old River merged in the churns
Of indifferent space and abysmal depths
Unquenched desired and un-quitted love
Mountains bleed tears, far away, alone
A River song – A farewell

This poetry is one of the collections of poetry I am writing, called “Kalina” about a small girl and her world, her feelings her thoughts. ‘Butterfly’ was submitted to ‘One Stop Poetry’ for the competition “Through a Child’s Eyes” and was selected as one of the finalist. I have edited this one below after submission; hence here you have the latest version

Butterfly
_

Look, there she is
There on the window pane
A new friend from the dreams last night
She promised to teach me
How to fly, where ever, whenever
In sunshine or rain

How bright and beautiful, she is
Pinker than my ma’s cheek
Her little wings have so many colors
Like the rainbow
I painted last summer, for my Pa’s Birthday
Before he left for the war,
You know, to make money for us to eat

Tell me butterfly,
How does one eat money?
How does one go to the war?
I don’t want Pa to go to the war;
I don’t want any money to eat; At all
You know, whenever I hug him,
I don’t feel hungry,
God Swear, not at all

Oh! Butterfly!!
Why are you flying away
Going so far?
See, out side, the day is still full of light;
Sure you can wait a little more?
Promise, Ma will be back soon,
From her nightshift,
And, sure she will let you in
Don’t you see, I can not;
I am in the bed,
Too sick to let you in

Butterfly, my dear Butterfly,
You really have to teach me how to fly
Before you came in my dreams
I promised Pa - a hug tonight,
I know where he “wars” now;
Ma showed me the other night,
When she cried,
“There, Kalina, there he is, in the sky
That beautiful bright Evening Star”

You know Butterfly;
I love him so much,
Much more than I love Ma,
Really!
You must teach me to fly,
As I have to go today,
Yesterday, Pa told me
Its time now
Here you see
My Ma does not even smile much
Now

The laughing Buddha
Mocks every one
But the one with laughter in heart

The silent Buddha
Is not so silent, you see
Just listen from heart

The temple bell
Silently called my soul
Echoes in my prayers

Lotus pond
Waits silently
Petals too

River meanders
In deep forest, Slowly
Pregnant with leaves, roots and earth

This poetry is one of the collections of poetry I am writing, called “Kalina” about a small girl and her world, her feelings her thoughts. ‘
____

As she walked ahead
In her enthusiastic little hop, skip and jump - steps
I fell behind, in my own thoughts; old and aging
Yet keeping pace with her fresh world
That turns in, with a burst of rainbow
On every turn, flying like a butterfly
Across her little universe of wonder

Now she stops; the deep forest
Climbing up the steep incline of the mountain
Has her attention; complete with one hand under her chin
And I know, she knows what to ask,
With a sweet little smile behind her knit wool gloved little hand
And stump me with her wide charmed eyes

“Why those clouds are leaving the mountain alone?
Do you think Grandpa, Peakoo* will be happy without them to play?
Do you think they are coming over to play with us?
Can you give your extra blanket to put them up, in the attic for the night?
Grandpa, it’s very cold now, you know, they will shiver

Before I could think an answer and say,
“Kalina, lets go now, it’s going to rain”
She has already moved on
Playing with the soft cold breeze, moving up from the valley

With her hands out stretched, running, almost flying
Like the autumn leaves, that joined in to play, in her wake

Hammers and power saws - though trying hard
Could not drown the sound of your silence

How a flashback
Gets off my thoughts
Makes a room, painfully in my heart

Silence
Pregnant with life
Whispers the colors of sunrise

The night turned around, before leaving
looked me in the eye
Asked - can you dream alone

She is on my mind all the time
Wonder what she does
when I am alone.

The silence of my room
Loosing its peace
Over the noisy rain call
Shouting outside
Deep forest behind
Shakes off its dirt
Dances with breeze,
In fresh green trees
Cold thoughts fall softly as raindrops
Holding on to my tattered blanket of life
I watch my memories and winter pass by

The milky way in the night sky
Lost its way
Comes down in torrents of rain
To ask me for one dance
Clouds
Took off the cloaks of my shadow
Running arms wide open
On the wings of love,
I soar to distant stars
While, in the puddles of rainwater
My little ego fish, finds its greatness
Buddha smiles, lotus pond waits
To bring me back

Mind exists in it's own world of passion
Possessiveness and touch
Fleshy wounds, senses dirt
The power of the dusty path
Is not in the eternal wait of life's traveler
But in bringing the end of
Karmic shell
The lightness of being to be released

One by one, pain stripped off
My wanting, my needing, my attachment
Slowly Buddha reached out to me
Lying tattered on the path
Revealing
Invisible bundle of pure love and joy
Covered in rags of past
Buddha, is that really me?
As I prepare to sleep
In my cold lonely shell

I saw the old man at the Holy Ghat
Long time back, but
He still continues to follow
Me and my thoughts
Incite me to dig deeper
On life
On death
On the path that he has lost.

He does not know
I am handicapped too
By pain, loss and loneliness
Life to be, has become
A colorless phase
Slowly passing by, grain by grain
Like the sand, in the hour glass.

I have no clear vision
But only a blind spot of living
Even dreams are marred
By imposter Hopes
Playing kaleidoscope of light
At the end of life’s tunnel

Why there is a light,
only at the end
Which never ends, Alive
In the end
And we blindly live, on and on

Yet I keep walking, on and on
Dripping past Karma
In drops of sweat, tear and duty
Believing, drop by drop
I am loosing it all

The life’s been so long and slow
The old man caught up
Holding my hand,
Talking
Knowing
Feeling
That I am lost too
In the maze of life

Dust claims dust
We will die too
Karmic baggage still
All intact and packed
Another journey
Another tunnel’s end

The sound keep melting in me
The sound of silence
The sound of conch
The sound of devotees
Dancing in circle
Till I was no longer me

I swirled with my hand outstretched
Like the old mystic's and Sufi's
Floated in the group
Went high and higher in thoughts
and then merged
In the overall consciousness
Of you and of me
In the Universe
That got small enough to be with in me
And the circle of dance.

She took me in her arms
and went away to the stars
A long silver thread followed
From the manifestations
Of Her
Which was still dancing down in the circular group
Singers still singing your songs

I woke up in the dew
That was hanging at the grass blade
Till sun knocked
With morning rays
And I woke in your love
Lying still among the chants.

Temporary the presence
Learnings and memories

Depth of this life

Yet, a belief in the higher power
The divine, supreme being
Ever so deeply rooted
Beyond the cycle of life and death

To draw strength and endurance
Some wisdom
To walk the path of truth
Not through rituals
But being closely guided by the divine

Gently placing faith

Some of my daily verses on twitter....

I am shedding memories
Like leaves in autumn
Did I loose you, in between my thoughts?

The brook flowing
Over the round pebbles and soft drops
Sound of music running in my heart

FAR, FAR AWAY
Lips interlocked
Hearts entangled
Entwined, we stay in our own desert spaces, alone

I dream of her
She dreams of togetherness
I hope its me

NEW DAWN
Night cap
Morning dew
I am having a hang over between the two.

The tree walks out of a dream, yawning
Rakes up the sky
Clouds break into a rain dance

Morning mist filters the rays
Flower filters the rain
A heart lives in the happiness of deep blue sea
How pure the sun rise can be

THE NEW DAY
The morning escaped
From the dark clutches of Lonely night
A sun rise in the end.

LOVE DAWNS
After exhausting night
Moon slips back into the dream part II
And sun walks out
Tiptoeing naked on the dew

THE SEED IS PLANTED
The morning dew drops
Settle softly on the lips
Of evening star, love flowers

The moments of our togetherness
Last night, got pregnant with love
It rained in the morning
And I woke up - Wet

LOVERS
Sea shore and waves
Pulsating rhythm - high and low
An endless coming together

Between me and the sky
Sea sets its foot down
In rain

Small brush with feelings
Takes a long time to fade and dry,
On the wet lips or on the memories of life

She throws her leg over me
Unwrapping
Dreams in the morning

Fresh lime day
****** Mary Sunset
Lets paint the town, tonight, red

The music notes from the flute
Lingers in the feelings
Love dance and the Bamboo shoot

The ringing bell echoes in my mind
The scent of incense stick lingers in my heart
Sun rise hangs a happy day in front

The moon shattered over the eastern sky
Turned into a cloud burst
Rain fall softly on a lifeless body
Walking along the empty beach
-Feeling
-Thinking
-Wondering
Where has all the pain gone?

The sacred solitude spread
Under the dark clouded night
Shimmering, in wet silver sands
Of time
- Deadly
- Fascinating
‘If this is being dead,
Then its welcome too’.

Come, be within my empty feelings,
Fill my empty soul,
Come, sit besides me
In my desert spaces
And watch with me, the play of our loneliness
Souls, fluttering on the clothesline
Strung between the stars
‘Take one, if you need some change?’

One step after another
Becomes effortless
-When there is no place to go
- When you are nothing else, but dead
No desires to keep you alive; awake
No sun, No moon,
No shadow ******* your steps
Sooner or later, every thing stills, lying etched upon past

You know, living is easy
Moments just pass
In slow motion of
Lightening flash backs
Of memories littered, one the way; en-mass
Foot prints left on silver sand
Now, I remember
Where all the pain has gone

You know, being dead is easy too
You just need lot of life, un-lived

She reached out, as I poured a bleeding heart on paper
"Don't ever write to me", with a ****
Black letters, scatter all over my green love

I slept, dreaming of animal cries
Seeds engaged in birthing
Woke up with a cosmic tree growing all over a belly

Desert spaces in my heart, too heavy to
drown in the sea, on the wings of my longing
So I walked and did

Love showers
Happiness, togetherness, Bonds
And Sorrow

As the sun rushes into the night
The sea reaches out hold him
In depths of her love

Prelude:
From Fullness swathing, wake left
in wake of...truly, there is no passing
but an Emptying of Fullness.
...Needless to say, ecstatically
vibrating...you have all the blessings
silence can muster.

Could, I would...imbed this sky
in memory, self-proclaim its radiant
blankness upon it.
That I may be what I see, already
in memory of me, though I've come
to know and love...that any personal
touch, is yet an impersonal one.
Bless that which was drawn in, and
drawn out...lay the heart entire upon it.
We are the Knowers of things that stand,
and tilt by degree momently...we are
the Knowers of the last leg, lest it
overstep that which it's overstepped by.
Fit for us, as every other--momentously,
equally fit...the call to life is what silence
took as her deepest secret.
Nothing could wrest this burden from
her hands, for she loves it as her self...
therefore restores what she holds forever.

The night went on and on
Some times in words
Some times in thoughts
Some times the silence
Took over the lightness of our being
And soared above our dreams

A life time to spend
A life time to walk
A life time to share
And a life time to talk

The night’s window
Fluttered open
The gate way to our stars in the sky
The Milky Way bridged the night
To the morning light
And she said to wake her up
To say good bye
How sad it is, that I did

Now
That hug
And our clasped hands
That took her away
Still lasts in me, eternally
As my heart echoes, on and on
Don’t go, my love, don’t go so far

it was love then.
it is love now.
being is always enough.
when you resist, you suffer.
stop pushing. place trust in dharma.
the petals fall when they must fall.
if you don’t push at all, something will still happen.
change is the highest quality of your heart,
and when you change, everything changes.
there is no separation between us, only awareness.

Held together by invisible strings
These scalar waves of pressure
Are infinitely stronger and subtler
Than a thousand waterfalls
Gravity is our mother
And we no longer struggle
To stand up or down
We pack it in and out
As hymns of love
Grow in our frames
We straighten our spines
For it often takes more

And millions upon millions
Of men, women and children
And perhaps a few billion
Unnecessary deaths
Or a trillion unsuccessful attempts
To complete the naming
Of all the many beings
Inhabiting the earth and stars
Which collectively comprise
The universe's heart
She sings, long live the king
For life is a marvelous thing
Still we are all a little off course
In developing mental health strategies
That actually do
What they're supposed to
For each and every single species
Is only half as radiant
And usually twice as complacent
As any shade-giving or fruit-bearing tree
These sediments are indeed sentimental
And all these fallen feathers
Speak only to living beings
Who fly on tiny wings of freedom
Your kind blue eyes
Blink twice as fast as mine
And disguise all your pretenses
Fingers often keep time
And finders keep rubies
Losers weep emeralds in glorious grieving
But can anybody tell me who the f@#!
Are all these pseudo-teachers
That sell you their minds so cheaply
If buying time is a waste of money
Then meretricious attorneys
Bleed you of your dignity
Currently it is only in dying
That we see no need to speak
While our currency is evolving
We are solely imitations
Of our inimical engines of digestion
As sedentary wives
Remain tied to triumphant spines
Shining like a pestilence
Atrophying like elephants at a circus
Their bodies and minds imprisoned
And bound by imaginary stakes in the dirt
Young prisoners in solitary confinement
Are hiding mental gems
And emotional diamonds
In lonely shipping containers
For you to polish and find
Like two lovers intertwined
I can guide myself despite your lies
I resolve to see
All corrupt lawyers go blind
While many more are voluntarily buried
Beneath their own illegal fantasies/histories
And bureaucratic guidelines
While in the depth of night
She yields to no-one
And only kind words
Can heal these enemies

Dear Mae Sai,
You’ve been a hard pill to swallow.
Downward gazes and inside jokes.
Farang, farang.
Little pointing fingers followed by a wave of giggles as my floor-length dress with the slit down the side blows wild in the breeze,
trying to contain my runaway drapery,
maintain modesty in a border town where summer dresses don’t fly.
A voice cautions from the inside:
"You’re not in the islands anymore dear one.."

Om Namah Shivaya
I murmur steadily to myself repelling thoughts of “I just want to go home.”
There is no home, not outside in the physical world at least.
This here is a recurring theme.
Now I’m really traveling.
How dislocated will you become before you eliminate outside chatter,
and go to work paving the temple solace inside yourself,
the eternal home within the eternal om,
the exterior is irrelevant.

Oh Mae Sai,
soot and smoke bellow up from your belly
placing masks on the mountains at your back,
your wretched reflection glows unforgiving in the street.
Glorious, unpainted authenticity.

**** the farangs, they’re just passing through.
Smile til my face hurts,
it mostly makes no difference,
and then when I’m feeling so unwanted that I can’t hold back the tears,
you throw me curve ***** with every passing street.

A little Burmese babe with the brightest smile
still unsure of how fast her feet will carry her,
she dashes to my right and with the smacking sound of her lips
and the grace of her palm she blows me a kiss.

Thank you sweet one,
that’s just what I needed…
*'Farang' means 'foreign/foreigner' in Thai, derived from 'farangsayt,' which means 'French.'

During a failed visa run in 2016 I found myself stuck on the border of Thailand and Myanmar for several days in Mae Sai waiting for the Thai immigration office to reopen. It was uncomfortable and I cried for hours one day just sitting alone on a stoop, watching people struggle to make ends meet, very few people cracked a smile-- but the whole experience was incredibly therapeutic

ask yourself this...

while you become

the hypocritical that.

as always--to those

concerned, what power

drew your eyes to read

into these words?

what made them a doorway?

they mean something to you.

they want to show you some

kind of way, they're spatially

unchallenged when they look

dead in G*d's eyes

for your Self-sake.

the first and the last breed, breed

sons not of Man.

as women bear birth,

so they might feel for themselves.

these two hands wash the

blood out of water

to clarify nothing.

except...

the Word of their

mouth to dash across the

tongue of their drink,

ever parched.

only visions of water.

Jeshua too passed out and

in with the devil while

roaming.

change never leaves

The Heart of Hearts,

nor changelessness.

wisdom is what's salvaged

as it writes away.

can't you see that Shiva

believes he exists because

he believes in Shakti with

his Heart of Hearts?

can't you see that Shakti doesn't

believe she exists because she believes

in Shiva with her Heart of Hearts?

you are that very energy that

upholds that very seeing.

you laughed off that very

sight, to dance off your seeing.

when your Heart of Hearts

presented itself as the illusion

of that seeing.

all I-I see is through Us.
