Day job
Hakikur Rahman Jan 2023
Employed on daily basis
Mr. Nasirul Haque,
Devoted life to service
No, he is completely wrong.

Attend on time every day-
Even some days,
arrive at work before everyone else,
Work with focus-
Although the authorities most days
keep him busy with more working hours,
Under some guise.

For these additional functions
He receives no remuneration,
Happily accepts monthly salary
And nothing more.

Yet he is devoted to his work
Always conscious of duty,
Although all grow at an exponential rate
Not only does his salary.
The name is an imaginary one.

Killing trees
Hakikur Rahman Jan 2023
The branch fell from the tree on the way,
The branch weeps and says, O Mother
Does happiness lies in this.

The tree laughs and says, O my child
Don't be impatient.
I have given you as a gift, to the human race
Bless you Karmavir.

There are also so many delicious fruits-
When they are satisfied with them,
I am successful in that.

The branch understands all,
Staying silent but looking for-
Alas true happiness!

But why are they
Whenever get a chance
Looking forward to killing the tree?

Desire
Hakikur Rahman Jan 2023
Let the bleeding of the heart be soothed,
May the soul's resonance be enlivened.

Let the flame of consciousness burn,
Let the imagery of thought be awakened.

May pure understanding develop,
Vanished away out of tempered concoction.

Let illuminate enlightened insight,
Banished away seduced mischief.
On the eve of New Year 2023.

A little light
Hakikur Rahman Nov 2022
Give me some light, my love
In a new morning, in the sunshine
I will put it on
And will sale from door to door-

Give me some free air, my dear
It's been a long time, I couldn't take a breath
As if in the middle of the chest,
I will shake my heart in that free air
And I will say back,
Come, all, to this open door—

Give me some rain, my precious
so that I can hide my crying,
The house is tied to any passion
Today it is broken.
So I will try again this monsoon
Again in the old tune-

Give me some relief, my beloved
I could not sleep for a long time, because of the pain of loss
Passed the sleepless dew, for long long,
If you get it, mixing the autumn clouds,
With the starry sky
Will go to sleep
To see memorable dreams.

Boat of oblivion
Hakikur Rahman Oct 2022
Seeing the light of the elf-fire
Did not lit in my house
the evening lamp,
Although it burns dimly,
Darkness does not cut it.

With great hope,
I thought it would be like this
Life without a light..

I think hopelessly
Where did it go?
Thereafter,
floating in the boat of oblivion
flowing forever
till the eternity.

The planet
Hakikur Rahman Sep 2022
Child, opens her eyes
Looks around smooth earth,
Abounding with many rivers and fruits,
Full of grain and greenaries
It is self sufficient.

Someone said in a desperate voice
O mother of the world,
Will you remain so pure?
Oh my planet.

Looking around the world, sighing
Says, oh my dear
I am helpless because of you
As, erosion is taking place at the source.

Give me back the forest
Hakikur Rahman Sep 2022
And in the playhouse of the stone-hewn palace
Blocked without being restrained,
I will go back to the hut thatched with tree-leaves of that village
Where the sweet air flows pure.

In the colored lights of the play house, sometimes
I can't recognize myself anymore
Oh the Mother earth, why hesitate, open it
Open the chained door of my heart.

Give me back, that forest
Where lie my childish days,
I want to shout and say, I am forever happy
My footsteps are there.

I don't need the lion door
I don't need this vain fame,
Being on the dewy grass
Lying down, looking at the blueness of the sky,
And will sing, day and night in the joy of life.

Cocoon
Hakikur Rahman Sep 2022
Yet, there could be

The beginning of the end
Hakikur Rahman Aug 2022
The whole world stopped suddenly.
In some unknown fear-
The hullabaloo has stopped,
Movement has stopped
Exuberance has stopped.

Unknowingly
or of it’s own accord,
In a familiar yet unfamiliar world
Limited stroll -
Towards the wearied sky
Back to casual looking.

Where are you, family?
Respond!
Because the mind is very uncluttered,
A little conversation with relatives,
Or a bit of looking, whether it floats in the ether.
Even if only for a moment
All activities have stopped.

Perhaps
All will begin again,
The commotion will begin again,
Movement will begin again.
Exuberance will begin again.
But what does it indicate,
Is this the end of the beginning?
Or the beginning of the end?
Written during the Covid19 pandemic.

The epic of Independence
Hakikur Rahman Aug 2022
Showed the index finger that day,
The one-
For which the country became independent.

He said, to the
Seven and a half crores Bengalis
To take arms:

Said more,
To liberate the country with all the capabilities.

That call was
Sublime, Lucid, Melodious-
And that was this country’s
The epic of Independence.

Let it fill the hearts of all Bengalis
With words of wisdom,
Remain in the form of radiance
By becoming witness of the eternity.
Dedicated to the Father of the Nation of Bangladesh.

Karma
Hakikur Rahman Aug 2022
Karma is my power
Find peace in mind by working
There is the relief even if destitute
There is no abode for the indolent.

Hold the oar with strong hands
With a strong hand lead the plough,
Whatever is near or the back
Sing the song of survival.

Be small, be insignificant
Work eagerly and eat day-to-day,
There is happiness in struggle
There is no shame in that.
Dedicated to those marginal population.

Farewell Fagun
Hakikur Rahman Aug 2022
Fagun is saying, “Good Bye”
Who is looking for the stolen heart?
Filled in this south blown wind.

Who wants to go back looking for the past?
In the midst of isolated soul
In which tune he sang?

Thoughts are crying in the far,
Heart's words remained stale
On the banks of the slow flowing Jamuna.

Twilight is set today with much decoration,
In the shadow of the clouds in the distant sky
With those shining stars.

Moon woke up full, almost full
Heart woke up in the depths of memory
Entered in a thirsty soul.

In this unbroken moonlight,
Someone opens the heart to the silver beam
Who wants whom?
Note: Fagun is a month of Bengali calendar.

Call back
Hakikur Rahman Aug 2022
Narrow clouds are playing in the distressed sky,
Cannot spent this time with an empty heart.

The hungry owls simply went to sleep.
What happened to the flowers of cactus blooming untimely?

In what tune do the birds sing at night,
What does the hornet wants at the blind garden?

Earth wakes up to a sleep-awakening song,
In the morning breeze, the soul felt empty.

Where goes the charioteer of warrior Arjuna?
Saussurea obvallata floated in the middle of the still lake.

Peacocks give a blank look towards the peahens,
Wild nightingale sings in what tune?

Why is sun getting up late today?
However, the heart calls back to whom, unknown.

Successive
Hakikur Rahman Aug 2022
Dressed today in the south wind
Flowers of the remote island-
Full moon night glazed to the tune of Madhabi flower
Where did flute play?

Blowed where on a river bank
The flute of sadness,
Who woke up in the shade of Mahogany tree
With enchanted smile.

Halfly asleeped shy creeper
Still not opened her eyes,
Where the slow flowing river flows
Keeping her current behind.

The dream is awake in the moon light night
On the branch, where the dove is sleeping,
Floating in the imaginary world
Who calls with the elapsed melody.

A little peace
Hakikur Rahman Jul 2022
Finally,
She sits on the bench,
Tried to take a breath of calm -
All marginal needs
Pledged to time,
With any long distance train
Like running without a whistle,
It will suddenly stop moving.

Then she will take a walk in the open courtyard.
From where the balcony is loaded with the handle of the bamboo ladder
The open sky can be seen.

Blue sky!
Haven't had a chance to look there for a long time -
From dawn to noon, till the evening lights are lit,
Pick dry wood,
Pushes the kitchen,
Clean the window rust,
Entwined those reed branches,
Washed off the **** from husband's undervest,
By buttoning the eldest son's shirt,
Sew the sleeve of the little girl's dress.

Although a little bit of time arrived;
From where came a stormy crow
Sitting on the courtyard, started yelling-
"I want some food for my hungry stomach!"

Behold!
Who passes by?

Intricate imagination,
Lifeless thought,
Prolonged burden,
Sudden nightmare?

Someone tried to sing a choir
But, alone
In the middle of nowhere
Perhaps emptiness only surround.

Behold!
Who passes by?

Discarded waiting,
Slender hope,
Bitter expectation,
Tuneless descant?

The nest
Hakikur Rahman Jul 2022
Innocent super monstrous empty smile,
That smile is so insidious-
The meaning of which I couldn't find till today,
And it's alike, when did it become stale?

Earthly or death,
Never had time to think about it-
On the perimeter of the dry oasis,
Aimless movement still.

In dark-encrusted salt water, non-invasive transmission
It is as if in a lifeless body, the origin of the heart.

What is memory loss?
I see the crowd of queues,
Or family of migratory birds
Find their nest in the twilight.

Reoccurrence
Hakikur Rahman Jul 2022
Is the dream finally broken?
Can not be deciphered, the writing of destiny!
Then, wandering towards the stark reality.

In purity of soul, remembering Him,
Determined determination.

In receiving the order,
No more pointless crossings.

What a lust called!
All are illusory, all are mortal,
When the day terminates, all will be covered in deep darkness.

No more the temptation of hypocrisy,
No more, inevitable bleeding of the heart,
O Indestructible!
Permeate my heart,
Unconditional return to You.

Fagun
Hakikur Rahman Jul 2022
Fagun came back silently
The murmur of falling leaves stopped,
Soul thrilled as the south wind blows
As if nectar flowed from the blue sky.

Countless flowers bloomed in the forest,
Silk cotton, Butea, Bud flowers filled all eyes.

In the colors of Caesalpinia pulcherrima, nature laid out
The elusive earth catch in maroon color,
She looks amazingly glamorous
Fill the heart with joy.

The river flows slowly with murmuring sound
Two eyes are fascinated by the scenery,
Feels proud to describe
The footsteps of poetry are enriched.
Fagun is a month of spring in Bengali calendar.

Desire
Hakikur Rahman Jun 2022
The millennium is over,
How much water flows in the river Padma,
Someone keeps track of that!
In this short-lived life,
Filled with ups and downs,
Only waves of pain flow.

I am at the crossroads of tomorrow,
With aspirant hope raising both arms.

Everything is in motionless motion-
All speeches seem to be lost,
All reflections have disappeared,
Only the heart can tell, whom it wants.

Turn around silently,
The mountain of thoughts are in front,
Can they be recognized?
Time flies like a butterfly
Wants to look at the annihilation,
Again searching for what has been lost on the way.

A group of fireflies
Hakikur Rahman Jun 2022
A group of fireflies,
With longing for life, very quiet
Spread the light in the darkness of the bamboo garden and say,
We wanted to enlighten the whole world like this-

A group of fireflies,
Illuminated,
The house where the unlucky mother turned off the lamp, without any compensation
Till the sky becomes rubicund, by the dawn-

A group of fireflies,
Forgetting arrogance, gathered under the bench of Dukhai's kitchen
Gathered, and brightened with the light,
Until the fire in the oven is re-ignited.

A group of fireflies,
When the gaps in the Mahogany tree vanishes, tell the full-grown moon to fall into the bushes of Phenymansa,
Said, No problem, you get some rest,
We are here to enlighten the earth.

A group of fireflies,
Woke up on the very first morning of the Ekushey,
Shine by exposing the foot of the Martyr Monument,
And they said, sleep in peace,
We are your eternal guardians.

A group of fireflies,
Stay billions of light years away
Accompanying the stars,
Glow all night long
And, became a witness of the eternity.
(Dukhai is a name of an unknown peasant;
Ekushey is the 21st February, it is the martyr’s day in Bangladesh
and observed as the International Language Day;
This poem is dedicated to those 3 millions martyrs during
the independent war of the Bangladesh.)

The past
Hakikur Rahman Jun 2022
Alas, the stagnant past,
Fell into utter darkness.
The heart is pounding,
Opening the closed door.

Alas, the starving past,
Ability is very limited.
The policy is worn out,
Thin and lean in half bed.

Alas, the unspoken past,
Written with an unclear mind.
From a lonely God,
Avatar of deviation.

Alas, the faded past,
The attainment is inlaid.
Deluded with situation comedies,
Worn out in childishness.

Sapphire
Hakikur Rahman Jun 2022
Oh, wearing sapphire,
Who goes there walking in heavy rain?
Kadamba and *****-pine are blooming in the garden.

Come on in a  hefty watery rainy day,
What is the melody ringing in my heart!
Would I be able to recognize her?

Thick cloud is kissing the blue sky,
Looking at them with flashing eye-
Gardenia is swaying in the south wind below.

Where are you going placing morning glory on the chignon?
I just sat there with mirthless heart-
The tide rises again in the ever-flowing river.

Put humanity above all.

Remove all confusion.

Nature
Hakikur Rahman Jun 2022
Suddenly the wind sways
The flower of Nymphaeaceae shook-
The girl wearing azure blue sari came,
Pull it out of the water with both hands,
It will become food before the mass noon terminates.

They came from Maltigaon
How many children, old and young, emptying the village,
They too have jumped into the lake like that,
Carp, Snakehead, Shoal, Mullet
Whatever it is, it will be lost today,
All empty before the rage of the clouds.

Hanging on reed branches
The Kingfisher is also in oblivion-
There is nothing left for dinner.

Meanwhile the neglected *****,
Dry sighs and wants to drink from the sky,
Some say, "I want to breathe a sigh of relief!"
In lieu of the World Environment Day.

Daughter of water
Hakikur Rahman Jun 2022
The daughter of water is running towards the home
After taking a shower in the sea water,
Bland shades thus looks towards
To see her, passionately.

The drunken wind is blowing there
Spreading her body odor,
The silver anklet is playing on the feet
The mind-soul is pacified.

Rubbing collyrium in her two eyes
Bunch of flowers in her chignon,
She is walking on red feet by painting with lack-dye
A white flower pendant in the ear.

Which crystal water filled the eyes
What a deep love there,
Gallinules are singing in unison
Her body is filled with gold color.
Dedicated to the tribal beauties of the Bengal.

Hakikur Rahman Jun 2022
The deep forest calls out,
In the tenderness of the leaves
What an illusion is involved.

The murmur of dried leaves
Blow in which tune,
Hijal, tamal, in the shade of shawl
Called away in a remote place.

Curved narrow paths
Merged into an unknown border,
Green forest surrounded by shade
Prate by prying.

The dew of the grass wraps around the feet
Still walking randomly,
The rainbow came and filled my heart
I want to return to her embrace.

Farewell bell
Hakikur Rahman May 2022
Suddenly the farewell bell rang,
Who or what will be lost forever
Gave the advance message.

The eagle that flies alone in the sky,
Or the old vulture perched on a palm tree,
Or the memories arranged in the middle of the heart.

Standing in the shade of a tree,
The whole world revolved unexpectedly,
And according to Newton's third law-
Every action is like an equal and opposite reaction,
The activities shifted.

Suddenly again,
Wind, clouds, sunshine, rain, storm,
All the matches became one.
And standing at the crossroads,
The emaciated, hungry child cried and said:
"I want a handful of food!"
In memory of my good friend Bill Manning.

Never know
Hakikur Rahman May 2022
The moonlight disappeared suddenly,
Took the darkness with her-
Who placed passion-flower in her ears,
With a uncomprehending smile,
With a cowardly step who came and stood in the corner of the square.

Silver moon,
That is painted only on the painter's canvas.
Under the bare wood apple tree, or on the edge of the cinnamon forest,
Is anyone waiting for someone?

With a weak argument,
What a tense memory to hold!
On the other hand, in earthen plate, the rice is poured with water
But the tailed dog plundered all,
And I stood under the darkness,
Recite Shakespeare's lyric.

Yet I don’t know why, but hear
The fasting street child continues to say,
"Give me a handful of food!"
I can't write poetry anymore.

Song of life
Hakikur Rahman May 2022
Building the canopy with dry grass and leaf
******* their house,
Still in the house corner, with full of smiles
Enchantress is active.

Housewife living in the illusion of home
Hides her shy face,
Two companions in happiness and sorrow
In private.

Menting the old net with Ebenaceae juice
Fisherman rushing to the river,
Fisherwoman looks towards his way
Sings in a melodious tone.

Seen in new tidal waters
New song of life,
Standing on the mildly flown banks of the Jamuna
Fill their mind and soul.
Dedicated to all those fisherman families who lives on the river banks of the Greater Bengal.

He did not appear to be seen.

Indomitable desires,
The bald bubble remained invisible in the bushes.

There is a whimsical settlement of the people near the shore,
On the uneven shores of thought-
Listen to the song of the elusive rain,
Match the eyes, shed tears-
It is mixed within the soul to soul.

Only now doves graze in the courtyard of the house,
Filled with loneliness all the time,
Through the gaps of carelessly growing shrubs,
The torn moon peeks out.

And consumes eternally,
With the hopeless thoughts,
Yet suddenly attacked-
Weeping desires, in the valley of the last sleep.

Let everyone make their debut in a drunken state.

Something

Sometime, some period, some days, some months, some years,
Some eras, some centuries, some millennia-
Everything is limited to that "something".

And that is the smallest part of the eternal universe,
It is only a part of what is being described.

Invisible to the idea, there is no "anything",
Even if I leave, it does not leave me.

Life revolves around this "something",
All wanderings are limited to this "something".

Although this "something" refers only to something,
Yet the scope of this "something" is not known,
Receiving of "something" not to be known too,
Finally,  everything ends within this "something".

I said to the earth-
Why hesitate!
I can't stand it anymore,
Can't see all those closed doors.

I told the night-
Get some sleep!
I am very tired of passing sleepless hours,
So in a trembling foot, I am moving, stopping, stopping.

I told the boat-
Take me to the shore!
It left with the other visitors, but me,
What sacrificial fire entered into the heart.

Thereafter-
I sat down in awe,
The moon appeared at the end of daytime,
Remained exhaled by the clamors of grigs.

Who's calling today in which tune,
Though remain eager to obtain something.

Before I could think about it, I started walking,
Walked from axis to axis, alliance to alliance
The heart became thick in the crowd of sadness.

I lost myself in those unprotected borders,
Though there were compassionate efforts to illuminate the path,
In the light of gradual aging.

Still searching in the shadow of oblivion,
Day’s sun laid to the western sky,
And in front there is the white mountain of hope.

And no turning back,
And no more "Let bygones be bygones" -
Let go off all those repentance,
Stay away from all the bad omens.

In the twilight hours, or on a catastrophic morning.
Will I be able to see you.

What a zero perception!
Ah, what a repetitive format -
Torn pages of a fragmentary novel,
In the bitterness of summer, in the footsteps of memory

However, it is very indistinct.

that broke full of my heart.

Crack of dawn
Hakikur Rahman Mar 2022
Bondless stars dancing in holocaust
They fell in a meteor shower, suddenly.

I want to renew my wishes, once more
That's why I look at the heavens.

The earth lost her drowsiness,
While the sun light filled the hollow sky.

The river dances with her own current,
She goes on towards the sea, for ever.

What do I hope to sing, at this moment
Woke up in the crack of dawn, in brevity.

Time
Hakikur Rahman Mar 2022
Entering into the nucleus of time,
I saw-
The densest of its protoplasm,
And the part behind the unraised curtain.

Whatever, is in there, as
Successful cells of life
Controls all biological reactions.

That, remain
Innumerable in the center of the soul
Consists of a combination of protons and neutrons.

Where,
A relatively clear ***** exists,
Which is the carrier of perpetuity,
And multidimensional;
As well as it is a silent witness of the eternity!

Poetry
Hakikur Rahman Mar 2022
Finding poetry writing materials-
It is as if the walls are surrounded by an unknown dream.

Before the end of the story of Konakchampa,
The fragrance of Yuthika, that floats in the air, leaving well.

Content seems not as comfortable as before,
Yet the heart is full with the joy of emotion.

Let's write about vivacity, passion, and radiance,
If not, something about unbroken spring-
In the midst of unhappiness, but likely to be of joy,
Let the words of the poem float, as it were everywhere.

Sitting still with emotion,
As time goes on, so does infinity.

However, it seems to be why,
To the hungry street child, white rice is more demanding.
