Revenge
Salmabanu Hatim Jul 2019
The bee,
Stung a flea,
With pain and  tears,
It  settled on a glass of beer,
Licked some drops,
The beer did the trick,
Gave it courage to make the bee sick.
My bite to your sting,
And the flea landed on the bee's
wing,
Now, I will defecate too,
Make you itch till you are blue.
Never play with a flea,
Cats, dogs and even humans are afraid of me.

My Old Shoes
Salmabanu Hatim Jul 2019
As I cleaned my store,
I came across my old shoes, many seasons I wore.
They stood side by side in rows,
Some with run down heels and broken toes,
The others with holes
through the soles.
Other two badly torn,
Many times I had worn,
Still one only scuffed,
It's sole I found rough.
My old shoes, I had worn them so well,
Each had a story to tell,
I can never throw them away,
With them I spent many good and bad days.

Thank You God
Salmabanu Hatim Jul 2019
As I woke up in the morning in my hospital bed,
I saw the patient next to me breathing his last,
I thanked God for another beautiful day,
And vowed never to let it go to waste.

Good Morning
Salmabanu Hatim Jul 2019
Get up in the morning,
Feeling fresh and cool.
Draw the curtains,
Open the windows and doors,
The sun is shining,
The birds are chirping ,
A new beginning,
From God a blessing,
Hot coffee is waiting.
Give me a kiss,
I love you my sweet bliss,
Good Morning.

Que Sera Sera
Salmabanu Hatim Jul 2019
Don't dwell into the past,
It's gone,
Never to come back,
Why cry over spilled milk,
Don't worry about the future,
You haven't been there,
Que sera sera,
Whatever will be will be,
The future's not our to see,
Que sera sera,
What will be will be,
Think of today,
Live it,
Enjoy it,
Que sera sera,
Who knows what will happen next.

Improved Taste
Salmabanu Hatim Jun 2019
As a child I drank milk,
As I grew up to be a young teenager I changed to soda,
Gradually as a middle-aged  man I thought beer was better,
With maturity and a cane in one hand,
I have settled for wine.

Ready
Salmabanu Hatim Jun 2019
It was a quiet, beautiful night,
With death my last fight,
I breathed  my last,
The dice was cast.
Tonight there was a full moon glowing,
The stars were sparkling,
All the Angels around me smiling,
Happy and cheering,
Me, to heaven they were taking.
As the hearse took me to the graveyard.
The city was blazed with lights
And around my soul was a halo of heavenly light.
My grave was already dug,
A beautiful Angel came and gave me a hug,
She whispered softly,"READY."

Beautiful
Salmabanu Hatim Jun 2019
Beautiful is just a set of words of the alphabet,
Strung together like a diamond necklace,
Instead, be adventurous, crazy and amazing,
So men want to be with you and enjoy your company,
Not just have you.

Happy
Salmabanu Hatim Jun 2019
I lead a simple life,
I am happy,
I get my needs,
Sometimes my wants too,
I am happy.
I try to bring smiles on other's faces,
Joy in other people's  lives,
I am happy.
I love my job,
I love my family and friends,
I love doing things for them,
I don't expect anything in return,
I am happy.
My life has a measure of darkness,
Now and then spoonfuls of sadness,
I take things along as they come along with patience,
I am happy.
Happy is a colour,
And I paint it with all the colours that make life beautiful.

Caught in the Soup
Salmabanu Hatim Jun 2019
Cockroach,  Cockroach , what are you doing in my soup,
In the kitchen I was playing hoop la hoop,
And I fell in you soup mister,
It's hot and I am getting blisters,
Scoop me with your spoon,
Before I swoon.
Please don't shout or scream,
I will be thrown out of the kitchen of my dream,
Filthy and messy,
With rotten fish, slimy and smelly,
Red meat in blood,
And fungi on sauces and salads with mould,
Never scrubbed,the kitchen,
For thousands of us it's heaven.
Be a pal,
Go away with your gal,
At least I did you a favour,
Not eating in this yucky place forever.

From The Box
Salmabanu Hatim Jun 2019
We met,
To find a solution at least,
Everyone was professional,
Dedicated to his work day and night on call.
I was different,
Food first was my want,
So while they thought out of the box,
I ate from the box,
First theirs, then mine
After finishing set them in a line.
They came back famished,
But theirs I had already relished,
Fresh and without stress,
I thought under no duress,
The problem was the solution,
What a situation.
Remember eat first,
Then do your best.
No food,
Bad mood

Today's Kids
Salmabanu Hatim Jun 2019
Spare the rod and spoil the child,
Today it is termed as child abuse.
Never hit a child.
Children should be seen not heard,
Now it is one of children's  right-
to be listened to.
if they reply back it is not rude,
They are giving their opinions,
Parents are their worst enemies.
All the neighbour's  children played outside,
Bicycled together,
Today, it is dangerous to play outside,
Paedophiles lurk around corners.
Children drank from the same bottle,
Ate from the same dishes,
Plucked fruits and ate them without washing
Today, bacteria, fungi and virus have taken over their health.
We say today's  children have become smarter,
I say they are more material oriented.

Come Up

Memories
Salmabanu Hatim Jun 2019
My first ******,
I stained my skirt,
My friends smeared it with chocolate.
I went to the zoo with my classmates,
I teased a monkey in a cage,
I was so close, it pulled my hair.
I was walking along a quiet alley when a thief came and snatched my necklace,
I fell down and bruised my elbow,
At least my purse was safe,
It had all my credit cards, some cash, gold bangles and rings,
Some passers by helped me up,
My hijab had come off,
So,as I was trying to straighten it,
I noticed my necklace was safe,
The thief had only got the string of my hijab,
When I related the incident to my family everyone said,"Poor man."
I thought I had become friends with my neighbour's  mad lady,
I tried to shake hands with her but she spit on me and slapped me hard,
Now,I am wary of insane people.
We were a big family,
When it came to food it was first come first to choose,
My sisters always got the best,
So,one day I saw them hide the ripest mangoes in their cupboard and lock it,
When they went out,
I removed the top drawers, took the mangoes and ate them all,
Till today, they can't figure how their mangoes disappeared...........
