I've a question
Needing resolve;
It's not as big
As the start of the universe;
Or the existence of the netherlands.
It's not a To be or not to be,
Or anything about the Papacy,
Or the question of the Trinity;
Or any other religious decree.
It's not a question of good or bad,
Or why I'm here,
Or why we're sad.
I'm not asking about nucleur waste,
Or our desire to travel outer space.
Those are big ones
I couldn't ask,
I can't answer ones so vast.
No, this itch I have
That needs a scratch,
This ***** of an itch
That archs my back:
What should it be.
What will I make,
A caf or decaf?
My great debate.
Depends on your outlook.
Like a cat, that's been out on the tiles
the morning light with a squint full of smiles
comes strutting across the bedroom floor,
reaching the door it climbs up the walls
and falls lightly like rain on my pillow,
it's Monday again and
I need a shave.

Saving the best 'til the last
now that the weekend has passed
I rise
wipe my eyes
scratch a bit here and a little
bit there and I'm
ready to share in what the
day has to give.

Someone is dying, I can hear them breathe
The dark isn't final as it sets on me
Nowhere is everywhere, say what you see
Don't **** me, brother, I've got family

There's nothing here, look all around
The sun is dying, it makes no sound
Someone is crying, lost and unfound
Don't **** me, brother, and bury me down

Fighting is over, now we survive
Only the weak are left alive
Smoke rolls away yet the fire has died
Don't **** me, brother, don't even try

Light's on its way but don't hold your breath
You've only got so much left
I'd like to shake the hands of death
And say don't **** me, brother, lay me to rest

I explain my metaphors with metaphors
I don't know how else to express
My thoughts that sit in clutter drawers
And leave my mind a mess

If you don't understand my comparison
I'll just say it in a different way
My thoughts still shielded by a garrison
Suppressing things I need to say

Back & forth the waves roll in
Challenging the beach
The foaming surf offers up a dream
That so far is out of reach

I wish I could live among the waves
Like the seal that I've just seen
Without a care for what comes next
Or for what has ever been

To swim among gigantic whales
Majestic in their song
Content with life - to carry on
Knowing they belong

To fly up high above the swell
Like the seagulls do
Playing in the clouds of spray
They all know the truth

Happiness is a gift

That we can not take for granted
In the profoundness of the ocean
Seeds of hope will now be planted

Back & forth the waves roll in
Their cycle never ends
My life continues to evolve
The sea will help me mend

I have this friend across the pond
As bright as clear-night stars
Intelligent and talented
And faster than souped up cars

But she has her flaws, alas
As all the best poets do
I know this to be a fact, of course
Who hasn't got one or two?

After all, it has to be said
Perfection is lack of character to me
So I'm keeping my eye on my talented friend
And watch as her mind flies free
