First day of Kindergarten:
I am wearing
Scratchy new jeans
And an eager smile.
This unfamiliar freedom is intoxicating-
I can't wait to leave.

First day of eleventh grade:
I am wearing
My faded old jeans
And a reluctant scowl.
The idea of adulthood is terrifying-
I don't want to leave.
